Chapter 54 - How did you escape then?

....

While waiting for the hour to pass, Xiao Lei told Dr. Phillip on why she had to run. She did not tell him everything. She only told him the things that she thought he needed to know.

"How did you escape then?" Dr. Phillip asked, obviously interested in how she managed to escape death. He leaned back against his chair as he looked at her curiously.

To him, a 12-year-old girl living on the street on her own was nothing rare... However, for a 12-year-old girl who was born in the top 1% of the most wealthy families in the country, who was pampered and spoilt by her parents her entire life, it was unbelievable that she could survive by herself for so long.

Xiao Lei smiled sadly as she explained, "I orchestrated my own disappearance by using my intelligence… I didn't want to be found, so once I escaped, I kept hiding by using different aliases… I'm very good at hiding, you know… "

Dr. Phillip nodded. He wondered how much she had gone through.

"Why didn't you go back when you turned 18? Or whatever age for you to get your inheritance?" Dr. Phillip asked bluntly. In his mind, this was a question that had bothered him.

"I wasn't strong enough. Who would believe me?" Xiao Lei laughed ruefully. "And I doubt they would let me live long enough to enjoy my inheritance. My father left everything to me. Everything. Including the management rights of Fan Entertainment. Those are more than enough reasons for them to get rid of me."

Dr. Phillip agreed. He had seen many things in his life. Parents killing children, children killing parents... Everything boiled down to money.

Dr. Phillip looked at Xiao Lei, and suddenly, he said, "There's one problem. I'm afraid that your family would have information of your whereabouts by now."

"What?" Xiao Lei gasped as she placed her hands down on the table in front of her in shock.

Dr. Phillip sighed, "When I did the DNA search, the database has an auto-alert system built into it. Once there's a match, all parties would be informed automatically. That includes the police and within the next few hours, your family as well... or whoever it was that placed your DNA into the system."

Panicked, she reached out to grab his hand. "No! Dr. Phillip! I don't want to be found!"

In her panic, she used too much strength, and Dr. Phillip slammed his free hand down on the table as he groaned in pain.

BANG!

The loud noise caused Xiao Lei to realize what she was doing and she immediately released his hand.

As he rubbed his sore hand with a frown on his face, Dr. Phillip said in an annoyed tone, "Calm down, I can say that I got an anonymous request and delete your files, but I want to know your decision. To continue or…"

"To continue," Xiao Lei answered resolutely. "I'll let Mr. Luo and Director Shenlong know, but no one else can know… I have a son now, and I don't want those b*stards to come after him. He doesn't know anything about my past…"

"As you wish…" Dr. Phillip nodded. He stood up and walked to the door. Before he unlocked it to invite Guang Ying back inside, he said, "I want to tell you that you can't run forever, but you're an a.d.u.l.t now, so you should know better. Once Mr. Luo is in, we can talk to him together."

When Guang Ying came back and sat next to Xiao Lei, Dr. Phillip handed him the folder.

"What's this?" Guang Ying asked as he stared at the folder in his hands. "Is she alright?"

Dr. Phillip glanced at Xiao Lei before looking back at Guang Ying. "Ms. Xiao is fine. We discussed it and feel that this is something you should know."

Confused, Guang Ying frowned slightly as he looked inside the folder. In addition to a few doc.u.ments, inside the folder also contained a photo of a little girl. He glanced at the photo briefly before he started to read the doc.u.ments inside.

"The 12 years old heir of late President Fan Lei of Fan Entertainment, Fan Wushuang, went missing during a family trip...

"The missing heir of Fan Entertainment is presumed dead after 6 years…"

Confused as to why he was given the folder, he then flipped to the last doc.u.ment and saw that at the bottom of the last page, it stated, "Blood Sample Compatibility, 100%. Missing Child: Fan Wushuang; Disappeared while camping; Estimated Age This Year: 35 years old."

Guang Ying gasped once he realized what he was reading. He then looked at Xiao Lei. With his eyes narrowed, he asked skeptically, "You are President Fan Lei's daughter, Fan Wushuang?!"

Xiao Lei kept her eyes down.

"Fan Wushuang of Fan Entertainment?" Guang Ying asked again. When she did not reply, he knew that he was right. The missing case of Fan Wushuang was something that shocked the entire nation. Everyone suspected foul play but everything pointed to a kidnapping gone wrong. The case was blown big but for some reason, after a week or two, it died down.

A year later, another countrywide search was conducted but there was barely any clue. It was as if she disappeared from the face of the earth. 7 years after her disappearance, she was declared dead.

Guang Ying only knew about it because his grandfather took him to pay respect to her. Her belongings were buried next to her parents in a burial ground near Beijing, where Fan Entertainment was originally headquartered at.

Guang Ying's grandfather was acquainted with President Fan Lei, and the old man felt that it was only right for them to pay their respect to the little girl.

Guang Ying looked at Xiao Lei who had remained quiet for the entire time. They did not speak a word until after the fasting blood test was completed.

While he drove her back to the hotel, Guang Ying could not help but wonder what to say. The woman that he had his eyes on to carry Callum's child was the heir of Fan Entertainment. He felt pity that bad things had happened to her.

She seemed like an intelligent person to him... If she had taken over the company, then Fan Entertainment would have grown bigger.

Once lauded as the biggest entertainment company in the country, Fan Entertainment was now riddled with scandals from top to bottom. Back when he was still managing the Luo Company, Guang Ying had considered hiring artists from Fan Entertainment to be the spokesperson for one of their products.

However, he decided against it in the end, after he reviewed the company's financial situation. If he had signed a contract with them, who knew what kind of dirty tricks they might do.

Guang Ying glanced at Xiao Lei through the rearview mirror briefly. He was thinking about something. If she were to go back now, she could still get a huge amount of money. There was no reason for her to get the money by being a surrogate.

"Xiao Lei…"
