Chapter 35 - She's going to be really noisy in a few more months

Kai Xin smiled at the simple compliment directed to her daughter.

"Yeah, everyone keeps talking to her. I was worried when she didn't show any sign of speaking even after 18 months, but it looks like my worry is unfounded. Even though she started speaking later, she's picking up the pace fast enough. She's going to be really noisy in a few more months…"

Han Ye laughed softly as he pointed out, "A lawyer as a mum, and a president of a conglomerate as a dad… She's going to be quite tough to handle."

Kai Xin shuddered at the thought of her precious little daughter growing up to be a rebellious teen. As she was drying her with another clean towel, she said, "Anyway, let's check out the doc.u.ment…"

Han Ye took the doc.u.ment from the staff who was holding it for him earlier while Kai Xin put on a robe to keep herself warm. They then went to the patio where it was warmer.

As Kai Xin flipped through the doc.u.ment, Han Ye took a break from talking. Given her profession as a lawyer, Kai Xin preferred to read through doc.u.ments herself rather than being briefed by others.

"Everything seems alright, and DX told me earlier that these were fair terms in this business," Kai Xin muttered as she flipped through the pages while she sat leg-crossed. While she read, she would tap the pen in her hand against her thigh and whenever she was thinking about one of the clauses, her hand would stop.

She owned half of the management rights to Ye Corporation. Ye Tian, the son of President Ye, did a massive wrong to her when they were in their teens. In order to compensate for her pain and as a thanks to DX for letting his son live, the then President Ye handed over the management rights to Kai Xin and DX.

Most of the time, DX would be the one handling the business matter as Kai Xin preferred to deal with legal matters only. However, there were certain things that Kai Xin had to do, like signing doc.u.ments and making an appearance once in a while.

Once she was done perusing the doc.u.ment, she then initialed every page before signing her name next to DX's name. After that, she handed the doc.u.ment back to Han Ye before asking with a brow raised, "Is this really necessary to make you come all the way here?"

Han Ye sighed, "I think President Du's real motive was to get me to buy you the mochis that you love. Have you been having more cravings?"

She leaned back against the chair and heaved a long sigh. "A little actually, but XiAn doesn't really give in to my mochi cravings since, as you know, I had a severe indigestion when I was pregnant with Little Monkey. I'm actually surprised that he told you to buy it today."

Han Ye recalled that incident. At that time, DX's mother, Old Madam Du, believed in those terrible rumors about Kai Xin, and came to talk to her. The words she used at that time was less than polite, and Kai Xin had a severe stomachache after their discussion.

It then turned out to be a severe case of indigestion, which nonetheless was used by DX to punish his own mother. He barred her from seeing the twins until she apologized to Kai Xin.

Han Ye signaled at one of the staff to come over and asked them to prepare some tea for Kai Xin to have along with the mochis. He then turned to Kai Xin and said, "I only bought two. My guess is that President Du felt bad that he couldn't come home tonight. He hasn't gone anywhere without you since you got pregnant and I'm sure that if it wasn't because of the danger at the site, he would have brought you along."

Kai Xin sighed. "Yeah… I hope everything is fine… Anyway, enough about him. My husband is capable enough to handle it. How about you? Are you ready for your date this weekend?"

"What?"

"ZiYan told me about it. I saw the photo of the lady. She's quite pretty. ZiYan did a brief background check on her and said that she graduated from Harvard. Are you ready for a brainy woman?"

Han Ye laughed ruefully before he answered, "I'm always ready for a brainy person, but I don't know if I'm ready for another woman in my life."

Looking at him with a worried expression, Kai Xin said, "It's been so long, Han Ye. You're almost 40."

"I'm barely 37."

"What barely 37? You're almost 38!"

"So still far from 40."

"Do you really want to wait until you're 40?" asked Kai Xin. One of the staff brought a platter with a pot of tea, two cups, and a plate with two mochis on it.

Han Ye waited for them to set out everything and leave before answering Kai Xin's question earlier.

"President Du married you when he was 41 years old, and everything turned out great."

She put on a smug smile. "Only cause I'm a great woman... But honestly, Han Ye, I don't want to interfere with your relationship much, but I'd like you to give it a chance. You're a great man and you deserve someone great by your side."

Han Ye smiled but decided not to say anything else.

They chat about some unrelated matter for a while longer before Kai Xin excused herself to take a bath.

Before she walked away, she said, "Oh yeah, don't leave first. Join me for dinner later. ZiYan said he had to stay in the office to rush a work assignment and would be eating in the office today, so if you go back now, there won't be dinner waiting for you."

Han Ye thought about it. He recalled that the fridge was almost empty when he left today and if ZiYan, who was supposed to stock the fridge this week, was busy, then it was unlikely that there would be much for him to cook with.

Furthermore, given that the food here was much better than what he could cook, he decided to stay for dinner. "Alright then, thanks for the invitation."

While Kai Xin went to take a shower, Han Ye changed into a fresh set of comfortable clothes that one of the butlers brought to him upon his request. It was just a pair of basic black shirt and joggers.
