Chapter 14 - Wait? What?!

Han Ye did not really believe her words but he did not want to press upon it now. Instead, he merely disguised his threat in a simple remark. "Never mind. We'll get it checked out later."

"Later?" Xiao Lei c.o.c.ked her head at him, confused.

He nodded. "Yeah. I'm taking you to Hospital Imperial for a checkup. Director Shenlong and Mr. Luo told me that they want things done as soon as possible."

"Wait, wait, wait! Director Shenlong mentioned a hospital visit but he did not say that it would be today. I still have questions of my own!" Xiao Lei said with a horrified expression. She had thought that she would get a few days to buffer before she had to go to the hospital.

"Please ask, Ms. Xiao Lei. I'll try my best to answer your question."

She thought about it for a moment before asking, "As a surrogate, I have to give up on a lot of things… So, what do I get out of this?"

"A valid question..." Han Ye thought for a moment before continuing, "You'll be transferred to a new apartment, free of charge, nearer to Imperial Schools. I heard that your son is studying at Imperial Secondary, so this way, you get to be nearer to both your son. After all, keeping you stress-free is important for the child's development. And of course, we'll make sure that your son is safe while he's studying in Imperial Secondary. Director Shenlong said to tell you that he'll do something about it."

Xiao Lei sighed in relief. She was about to say something when Han Ye continued, "As for payment, until the birth of the child, you'd be given $10,000 per month and all your expenses would be covered. Of course, that means rent, utility bills, any medical bills, and food. And once the child is born, you'd receive $250,000 payment."

She was sipping her tea and when she heard the amount, she coughed. Immediately covering her mouth, she repeated, "$250,000?"

In her mind, she was thinking, "What the f*ck?! Are these guys loaded with too much money or what?"

Han Ye's lips twitched slightly. "Yes. $250,000. Is that too little? I'm sure Director Shenlong and Mr. Luo are willing to negotiate."

She shook her head quickly. "No No No No No! It's… enough."

"F*ck! $250,000! It's going to take me an entire lifetime to save up that kind of money!" thought Xiao Lei as a greedy look made its appearance on her face. Just the thought of having that kind of money made her somewhat dizzy.

Once she calmed down, she cleared her throat before asking the question that she had been thinking about the whole time. "Erm… Would... Would I be able to see the child?" She scratched her head as she looked at Han Ye sheepishly.

"So, she's not all about money..." thought Han Ye when he heard her question. He saw her greedy face earlier, and he was just about to think whether or not to tell Callum and Guang Ying about it when she asked the question.

To her question, Han Ye replied, "Yes. Mr. Luo wants me to reassure you that you'd be allowed to visit the child. However, this would depend on your behavior. They want what's best for the child, but if your behavior proves to be unsatisfactory or questionable, then they'd restrict the visit. I'm sure that you, as a mother, would know why they are setting this way."

Xiao Lei nodded. It calmed her down that those two thought about the child's wellbeing right from the start. She doubted that most surrogate mothers were allowed in their surrogate child's life.

After a short moment of silence, she asked, "Mr. Han, I have one question. Isn't the sum too big? Is that the normal price for a surrogacy?"

"I doubt she's that money minded if she can't even recognize their faces," Han Ye thought. Guang Ying's public appearance had lessened since the handover of the company, but Callum's face was often published on newspapers as he often followed DX whenever the latter went to events.

Han Ye looked at Xiao Lei. With a polite smile, he asked, "Ms. Xiao Lei, do you know who are the fathers of the child you'd be carrying?"

"Other than their names and that one of them is a director, not really." Xiao Lei answered him honestly. On the name card that Guang Ying gave her, there were a logo with Callum's Chinese name, title and phone numbers on one side and Han Ye's numbers on the other side. So, that was all she knew.

Well, she also knew that they were rich based on their car and how they paid for the medical bills at Imperial Hospital, but she had no idea how rich they were.

Han Ye continued to smile as he said, "Mr. Luo wants me to tell you this so that you won't be too surprised later when you find out that your every moves is being monitored. His partner, Director Shenlong, is the heir to the underground Shenlong Family."

"Shenlong Family? Shenlong Xun?" She gasped loudly. "Shenlong Yan Huang's son?"

Han Ye frowned. Even though the Shenlong Family was famous, normal every day people would not really know about their name. Even if they knew, what kind of average everyday people knew about Shenlong Yan Huang's son? Most people usually associated Callum with the Du Family.

Han Ye maintained a calm expression as he said, "Yes. So, naturally, we cannot treat the mother of the next heir badly."

"Shenlong Yan Huang's son… Yun Jie… Can you believe this?" thought Xiao Lei as she looked at her fingers. She clenched her hands tightly into fists as a complicated expression flitted past her eyes. Whatever reservation she had earlier flew out once she realized who "Shenlong Xun" was.

Even though "Shenlong" was not a common surname in Imperial City, but it was not that rare that it would belong solely to one family. Thus, she did not make the connection before this.

Han Ye looked at the clock on his phone and said, "It's getting late now. Maybe you'd like to pack a set of clothing? I think we might finish up quite late. Mr. Luo has booked a suite for you at Hotel W so that you can rest earlier instead of coming back here."

She scratched the back of her head. "Erm… How about he just give me the money? I've to work tomorrow morning. There are a few houses that I have to clean."

"No." When Han Ye saw her devastated face, he added, "Don't worry about any lost paid. We will reimburse you for any loss."

"Alright then…" Xiao Lei sighed. She made a note to send a message to the owners so that they could readjust the schedule. She smirked as she thought, "I can take money from these guys, and come back later in the evening to work more. Two birds with one stone!"

Once she was done packing an overnight bag, they got into Han Ye's car. While they were driving toward Imperial Hospital, she asked, "So, what are we going to check at the hospital?"

"The usual. Your height, weight, blood pressure test... blood test…"

When he was listing the type of tests, she was merely nodding and mumbling, "Alright…"

However, the moment that she heard him said "blood test", she gasped loudly, "Wait! What?!"
