Chapter 336 - Dying Man's Request

Fernando realized his mistake from earlier, having panicked at Landon's state. He did his best to hide his uneasiness and said, "I'm sorry, Miss Anna. I was mistaken earlier. I must have called Michael by a different name out of worry. Landon is the name of my brother  -I panicked and called him by my brother's name."

"It's best that I leave immediately, no one is looking after Mr. Song, only my men - "

"I want to come with you?" She demanded. "I have my questions in my head. I am completely confused!"

"I'm sorry that's not possible. We are facing a difficult time and I badly needed to go. Please, have a good rest and let me know if you need anything."

Fernando chose not to reveal the truth as this was Landon's request ever since. He left without saying another word.

The next day, Landon's condition deteriorated. He had shortness of breath, chest pains, and irregular heartbeat. A recommendation was made for him to undergo a heart transplant. The doctors told him; it was an urgent need, and they hoped for him to find a donor soon.

Landon had been avoiding this day. He was worried about taking the surgery, still; he had arranged with a doctor in the US to find him a donor.

"With all due respect, I think it's best that we return to the US. I'm sure Lu Fang and his wife will understand. It has nothing to do with your brother… and if I may say so. Seeing Anna keep all that anger inside her, Michael may be better off dead," Fernando said, hoping Landon would change his mind.

Landon let out a heavy sigh before saying, "Call Gao Rou for me then and let him know."

The next day, it was Andrea and Lu Fang who came to visit him in the hospital. They talked about his condition. The couple learned of his immediate need for surgery.

"We never forced you to stay here in China, Landon. You can continue to prove yourself worthy of our trust even as you live in the US," said Andrea.

They both saw him quiet for a moment but soon asked, "It's a major operation and I - I don't know if I will ever survive. It would be nice if I see my brother before I leave here."

Andrea was surprised by his statement. Although he did not direct the words to them, it was clear he meant for them to hear it. They pretended not to hear him, but after leaving the hospital, they both contemplated the idea while in the car.

Landon stayed for another two days in the hospital for observation before the doctors agree to let him leave the facility and travel to the US. However, he had another heart attack. His condition became severe that the doctors recommend that he have the operation in China. The problem was getting a donor.

With the help of the Lus, Landon was put on priority for securing a heart. Still, it was difficult to tell if he would survive long enough until a heart is available.

His doctor had already flown from the US and was now on standby, in case he would have his transplant.

Soon, Landon was transferred to the ICU. He already needed close monitoring.

"Fernando, did Anna leave?" Landon asked. He already had an oxygen masked covering his face, yet he still managed to talk.

"No, she wanted to talk to you - "

"Bring her here. At least, she would feel at ease that Michael Song is dying."

"I refuse. Being confronted by her, it will only worsen your condition. You should have not cared too much for your brother and focused only on yourself," said Fernando.

Landon coughed before saying, "That is the difference  - between me and Michael."

When Fernando came back to the mansion that day to get more supplies, he did not see Anna. However, leaving for the hospital, he failed to notice a rented car following him around. His mood had been affected by Landon's condition for days that his mind was often elsewhere.

Making his way inside the hospital, Anna came after him, secretly. It was her that followed him from the mansion.

Because of the way they treated her, Anna realized there was something wrong. If the man she confronted was really Michael Song, he would have had her killed for sure. She was certain of that. Instead, she was treated well and even offered to send her back to the US.

When she saw Fernando enter the ICU, and she rushed to go inside with him. Due to the security of the hospital, it was not easy for Anna to pass through the second door of the ICU.  Fernando and his men also immediately took notice that they brought her outside the ICU.

"I want to go and see him! I demand to see him!" Anna yelled while being held by Landon's men.

Her voice was loud enough to alert the nurses and doctors who were stationed in the ICU. They warned Fernando and his colleagues.

Anna was dragged outside by force.

Fernando was too tired of needing to keep things from Anna and trying to suppress her anger. He brought her to a secluded place and announced, "He is not Michael Song! Stop it already! He is Michael's twin brother, Landon Song."

His words shocked Anna. She took a step back with her eyes wide open and she heard him add, "Landon may be dying. So, please. Please, just stop bothering him... and it was you who caused his heart attack... I know the Songs owe you a lot, but please. Give consideration and wait... until this is all over."

Fernando told Anna that they had been switching places every now and then. He revealed how Michael had long announced that Landon was dead. "Landon needed to keep the business going… among other things. So he pretended to be his brother."

"He came here to China to find Michael, but with so many enemies Michael has, I have a feeling he is not returning," Fernando studied closely Anna's reaction.

She was lost for words and leaned back against the wall, breathing heavily. He could tell everything shocked beyond words.

'No wonder,' Anna thought. She had always wondered how Michael can be nice and become cruel the next time they meet. Apparently they were two different individuals.

While Anna was left disturbed by her new discovery, Andrea and Lu Fang were at Gabriel's Den looking at Michael's song's chamber, about to make a big decision.

Andrea turned to her husband and asked, "Should we give in to a dying man's request?"
