Chapter 180 - Last Last Spring

While the Smiths took the word of the secretary seriously, Andrea and Lu Fang laughed at their attempts to have another coincidental encounter. More than upset, it bewildered them how Harold could waste his time supporting his daughter of her madness.

Andrea was particularly upset about Patricia sending her husband a half-naked photo, but kept the picture knowing she could use it against her one day.

The hunt for Lu Fang continued a few more days until Harold realized, they may have been misled on purpose. They stopped following the leads and took a break from all the city tours they have taken. They concluded, they already knew Beijing quite well.

The couple dismissed the secretary, knowing she was no longer useful to their games.

Patricia could not believe her misfortune. More than a month ago, some of her photos were deleted. Lu Fang could no longer be reached and every time her father calls his assistant, the man was always busy, or so they were told.

She accused her mother of deleting the pictures on her phone, claiming she invaded her privacy.

Pamela Smith tried her hardest to persuade her husband and daughter that their plans were going nowhere, but instead, she received a beating. She felt distressed and hopeless, unable to change their minds.

Out of nowhere, Harold received a call from Go Bolin that they were invited to Lu Wei Enterprises' anniversary celebration. Patricia was in heaven! She may have just assumed wrong, maybe Lu Fang did not hate her after all.

The event was to take place in the biggest hotel in Beijing and many other business partners of Lu-Wei Enterprises were to join the party.

Patricia hired the best stylist in the city and wore the most expensive dress, hoping to catch Lu Fang's attention.

The night of the event filled the Peninsula Hotel of Beijing with prominent guests and everyone was wearing their best formal wear.

The couple was dancing to a soft tune when the Smiths arrived. Lu Fang was the first to see them enter the hall and tried to hold down his laugh seeing Patricia in a long red gown embedded with rubies. The gown had a long tail displaying the different cut's of small rubies in them and it did the job of making her look like an aged queen.

Patricia held her chin up high as she walked snobbishly inside the hotel ballroom, purposely looking down at the women whose dresses were merely thousands of dollars while her's was worth a million. She wore expensive jewelry, from earrings, to the necklace and down to the huge rocks on two of her fingers.

"Babe, I didn't know we were going to have an action today?" complained Andrea as she pouted her lips, looking at the glittering Patricia.

"Oh, that was kind of my fault," replied Lu Fang giving a smirk on his face. "I gave the top stylists a heads up that she might call to prepare for this party. I Instructed them to make her spend on the most expensive outfit."

As they swayed to the music, the couple witnessed Patricia walk awkwardly, being stared out of envy while others thought the same as the couple; she was overdressed.

Patricia gazed at Lu Fang and Andrea, affectionately holding each other while dancing. She stayed still in the same spot without looking away until she noticed a familiar figure walk by a few feet from where she stood. She looked down and tried to dismiss the thought, telling herself, 'No. It's impossible. Darwin is dead. He is dead.'

She peeked in the same direction but did not find him. She let out a sigh, relieved that she was right. Yet, a few minutes of standing there, she felt someone was staring intensely from behind. She turned immediately and saw a face that looked exactly like Darwin.

Patricia paled instantly. Her hands began to shake seeing the man she thought they had killed.

She started running towards the direction of the mysterious man but because her dress had a long tail; she stepped on it and fell to the floor face down.

Some socialites laughed at her thinking, here was a rich girl coming in with the most expensive dress yet she could not carry it well. Some even took a video of her pitiful state.

Harold and Pamela who were talking to their newly made business partners came rushing to her aid. "Patricia, what happened?"

Patricia swallowed down her own saliva, her lips trembled before claiming, "Daddy, daddy I saw Darwin! It was Darwin Clark!"

"He's alive!"

"Shhh… Patricia, lower down your voice. People will hear you," Harold reminded her as he tried to help his daughter up. "Listen to me, Patricia. Darwin is gone. You must have seen someone that looks like him. That's all."

"Patricia," called Pamela. "Let's take a seat and calm yourself down. People are staring at us."

She looked around, seeing the strange expression on everyone's faces. She became agitated and glared at them ferociously.

Patricia drank a glass of wine to relax, but just as she felt herself calming down, she received a picture of Darwin, making her utterly nervous. Then after a second, her phone rang. She answered to a breathing sound - someone merely listening to her voice.

"Hello? Hello! Who is this?"

Finally, the person on the other line spoke, "I know what you did last… last spring."

Shortly after hacking Patricia's phone completely, the couple had a quick conversation on how they were going to deal with the Smiths.

"How about we have them run in the forest and have Darwin hunt them down?" Suggested Lu Fang.

His wife frowned and said, "Nah, that is too direct! I was thinking of incorporating fun into it."

She suddenly had a lightbulb moment and suggested,  "I really wanted to remake I know what you did last summer! How about that?"

"Yeah, babe, but they tried to kill Darwin in spring two years ago."

Andrea was in deep thought and after a few seconds, she nodded seriously saying, "I know what you did last last spring!"

The man laughed at her plan and implied it was more humorous than scary. "Babe, we are supposed to scare them, not make a joke!"

His wife looked at him fiercely and said, "Are you saying my plan is stupid?!"

Lu Fang recognized his defeat once again and said, "I know what you did last last spring."
