Chapter 179 - Chapter 179

((( SYA )))

Ravens cawed in the distance and a flock of birds that hovered above, past the mansion, made the sky temporarily dark and foreboding.

My skin tingled briefly.

"He's just busy dear," I whispered.

(CLAIRE)

They said: believe what your guts tell you. But the pit of my stomach told me many things felt wrong.

And my guts were right…

One afternoon, I overheard a conversation I wasn't allowed to hear.

"Not even a body is recovered until now?" a faint voice asked.

The other voice hushed for the other to speak more quiet,

"we still don't know what happened to Master Zhio. Don't assume things up."

"We don't even know if he's really kidnapped. No ransom is being asked…"

"I heard they received lots of-" the maid's eyes widened when she saw me, "Miss Claire!"

The other maids she was talking to also sprung in alarm, each holding their mouths for spilling the secret that wasn't meant to reach me.

I was speechless.

Overwhelmed.

I want to ask some more about it but my feet took me back to my room, to the comfort of Sya's chest when I saw her enter.

My tears flowed abundantly.

"What's the problem?" Sya stroked my hair gently.

"Zhio's missing, right?" I withdrew from hugging her and wept in the bed.

"Please tell me what happened?"

Sya sat beside me and narrated what she knew. Zhio was indeed missing and nobody knew if he's still alive.

I didn't expect that from the death threats, the news would escalate that worse. Zhio should not disappear. He promised to be at my side no matter what.

I lost appetite as time went through. But for the sake of our baby, I forced myself to eat. My unease kept me awake for nights and at the fifteenth night, I reached the peak of my impatience.

Where were you Zhio?

Just as I have known everybody was asleep, I sneaked past the maids who were watching over me throughout the day and snatched the keys to the outside. I had no idea where to go so I wandered downstairs, still with enough caution for the guards on patrol.

Out of nowhere, I heard Atty. Wenziel's voice.

"Eriez…"his voice sounded exhausted, "it has been fifteen days since Zhio went missing. If this continues, we have to assign an Interim CEO in his place. The board of directors has known this news and shareholders were rattled about it. I couldn't balance all the troubles this has gotten into my plate."

I approached the lanai where his voice was coming from.

"This situation was hard for everybody," Dr. Eriez replied,

"But assuming something did happened to Zhio…which I hoped not…what should we do?"

"If Zhio's dead…" the attorney's voice trailed off.
