CHAPTER 55 QUIT

"He must have had been so generous,"

I replied sarcastically while I snatched some fries from her.

She nodded,

"Yeah."

I took a handful. And then some more

.

"You're right. Fries really do help relieve stress,"

I said as I munched on the fried snack.

She noticed my appetite and gave me the other untouched large pack of fries.

"You easily let yourself get fooled," I couldn't help but express my honest thoughts

.

She blushed.

"Why do you think so?"

"I'm sorry but you're stupid."

"Huh?"

"Your boyfriend is lying about something. Find out what it is," I advised.

"And quit that relationship if you can't love him back sincerely. It's selfish."

The tall grass ahead rustled in the air.

"Easy for you to say,"

Her words were nearly a whisper,

"My debt of gratitude is unpayable that's why I can't. As much as I wanted to, I just can't."

I was worried he has done something much more.

"Did he ask you to do something against your will?"

I'll hunt him down if he did.

"I went with him to a bar to meet his friends and then he had few drinks. I don't imbibe alcoholic beverages but there's nothing I can do," her eyes were to the ground as she recalled.

Nothing else?

"Who's that bastard?"

She laughed a little.

"No meddling, remember? You're just here to listen, right?"

"Are you happy?"

"Maybe," she shrugged then bit her lip.

"After I repay all his kindness, I will stop. Until I don't feel guilty anymore."

"Are you sure that you're repaying the right person?" we locked eyes.

Hers were surprised while mine were serious and concerned.

It lasted long until she averted her eyes first and smiled.

"What do you mean?"

My calves felt sore from sitting down too long. I felt some little pain shooting up my back but didn't let it show. I'm fine now. I stretched my arms nonchalantly and let the wind blow against my body.

"Are you off from work today?" Claire wondered.

She took the emptied wrappers and the remaining pack of fries then stuffed them back to the bigger paper bag.

"I just don't feel like going to work today," I said honestly.

"But really, delve into everything about your boyfriend. You might be wasting your time for the wrong person."

I walked back to where the car was parked to get the bottled water we bought. That woman must be so thirsty. She stayed looking at me as I went and returned.

"Catch," I said at a fair distance before tossing the bottle to her.

She caught it but stumbled a little and brushed against some dry dandelion puffs. Its lightweight fluffy seed balls floated in pieces in the wind like little parachutes. My gaze went from it to her.

"I'm really thirsty," she smiled in thanks.

"Not only flowers need water."
