Chapter 323 - The Beginning of the End (5)

Name:The Idol's Wife Author:Tea_Tae
Somi and Hyun Jung were having a quiet dinner in their home when the latter's phone rang up. He picked it up to see Riggs.

"Hello," he greeted. "Good evening sir."

Somi frowned. Hyun Jung was off duty and Riggs never called him at odd hours. Was it something related to Abyss?

Hyun Jung was listening carefully and nodded. "Alright," he said. "I understand sir. I'll be there."

"What happened?" Somi demanded. "Is it about Abyss? Are Mirae and KJ alright?"

"Relax!" Hyun Jung snickered. "Nothing like that. Riggs called me up to discuss a case."

"A case?" she repeated.

"Yeah," Hyun Jung said, picking up his revolver and badge. "We're working on a murder case. This tycoon killed his wife but is denying it. Now, his lawyer is creating a ruckus at the station, demanding to see the officers in charge. Since Eli and I are handling it, we've been summoned."

"This late at night?" Somi gaped. "But you just finished a night shift yesterday! And you didn't even sleep after returning home! They're overworking you!"

"I'm a policeman, Somi," he said warily. "It's my job."

"But-"

She wanted to argue. With the additional responsibilities he took up with Abyss and now his overly demanding job, Hyun Jung was barely home. For the past few days, they saw very little of each other and she was worried that he would end up becoming extremely burnt out.

"I'll go too!" she said at once.

"What will you do there?" he chuckled. "They'll be distracted by the appearance of the Nation's True Love! Nah. You should rest. You have a long day tomorrow at the office. Moreover, your drama shooting is about to start. You should prepare for it."

Somi pouted as he kissed her forehead and left the house. She was extremely worried for him. She missed their alone time. They used to spend the evenings together, cuddling by the fireplace while he read her a book out loud or simply talking. Those little moments were extremely precious to her and she wanted to live like that with him for the rest of her life.

But lately, he was becoming secretive and distant. It began to bug her that they were spending so little time together. Is he losing interest in me? She thought nervously.

Sighing, she took the plates and put them in the dishwasher. She was lost in her own thoughts when her phone buzzed. It was Eli.

"Hi Somi!" Eli greeted from the other end. "Do you know where sunbae is? I can't reach his phone."

"He just went to the precinct to meet you," Somi informed her.

"To meet me?" Eli asked. "Why?"

Somi blinked. "The murder case, remember?" she stated. "The one where the tycoon killed his wife and now his lawyer is causing problems at the station?"

"What tycoon? What murder? I'm with Dasom right now," Eli revealed. "I was just calling sunbae to ask him if I could take the day off tomorrow. Dasom planned a getaway for us at his private villa in the woods."

Somi's mouth fell in shock. Hyun Jung lied to her?

"Why did he lie to me?" she demanded out loud. "He never lied to me before!"

"Oh no," Eli muttered. "Could it be…"

"Could it be what?" Somi demanded. Her anger was rising. What was Hyun Jung hiding?

"Could it be the rookie detective?" Eli asked. "She has been spending an awful lot of time with sunbae. They even went on patrols together."

"Rookie detective?"

"Yeah," Eli said. "Very pretty and sweet. The men at the station are going gaga over her. They call her the Fairy. Because she looks like one. I don't see the big deal thought. You're prettier. But it seems that she is genuinely interested in sunbae-"

Somi hung up the phone. Gritting her teeth in anger, she dialed Mirae's number.

"Hel-"

"I need your help!" Somi cut through. "Find out Hyun Jung's location for me. By hook or by crook!"

"What's going on?" Mirae asked in alarm. "Is he alright? Is he in danger?"

"No," Somi said, clenching her teeth. "But he will be once I get my hands on him. So find him. Now!"

"Yes ma'am!" Mirae squeaked and hung up. Somi tapped her foot impatiently, waiting for Mirae to reply. Finally after ten minutes, she received a text.

"He's at Dorado," it said. "A restaurant uptown. According to my sources, he's there with a girl at the garden side restaurant."

Somi stared at the message, not believing what she was reading. Was Hyun Jung cheating on her? That was impossible! After all they had gone through, he would never cheat on her like this.

But her heart sank at the thought of him being with someone else. What if he ran out of love for her? What if his feelings died?

The very thought of losing Hyun Jung again was tormenting her. She had spent years, punishing herself by staying away from him. Finally, when she decided to put her trauma behind and move on with the love of her life, he fell out of love with her.

Tears stung her eyes. Was this the end for them?

"NO!" she vowed out loud. "I'm not going to believe anything until I see it with my own eyes! I'm sure there's nothing going on. Hyun Jung is innocent!"

Without another word, she picked up her bag and marched out. She did not even change out of her t-shirt and pajamas. Finding her man was more important.

….

"We are terrible people," Mirae m.o.a.ned in despair. She was with KJ, Eli and Dasom at the roof of Dorado, waiting for Somi to turn up.

"Relax," KJ assured her. "Everything is going according to the plan!"

"But I lied to my best friend!" Mirae said, feeling guilty.

"Look at it this way," Eli reasoned. "We're helping them come together."

"Yeah," Dasom chimed in. "This is just a small act. Relax sister-in-law!"

Mirae pouted. KJ patted her head to console her.

"Let's watch from here," he laughed. "Let's see how Hyun Jung proposes to her."

The others nodded and looked down at the garden, where Hyun Jung was about to propose to Somi.
