Chapter 203 - A Strange Request

KJ felt the ground slip from underneath him.  "What did you say?" he demanded.  "The CEO has fainted!" Psycho repeated. "We were scouting at a shooting site when suddenly she fainted! I brought her to the Central Hospital and they're checking up on her-"  KJ did not wait for his sentence to finish. He hung up the phone and ordered the driver, "Central Hospital. Now!"  "What happened?" Somi asked.  "Mirae fainted," he replied anxiously.  "What?" she bellowed. "How?"  "I don't know," KJ admitted, feeling guilty. He was so angry at her that he neglected to check up on her health status. He cursed himself for his stupidity. Why did he not take care of her better? What if something happened to her? She was released barely weeks ago and the doctor had told him that she needs to be under medication for at least two months!  And yet…  "It's my fault," he lamented, rubbing a hand through his hair. "I should have been more attentive…"  Somi noted the anguish in his tone. She lightly patted his back.  "It'll be alright," she consoled him. "I'm sure she'll be fine. Don't blame yourself."  Her words did not assuage his worries. He needed to see Mirae with his own eyes to make sure she was okay.  ….  "It's just a side effect of the medicine," the doctor informed them. They were at the hospital where Mirae was taken to. She was injected with anesthesia and was sleeping soundly.  "She fainted due to the side effects of the medicine," the doctor went on. "She will feel like this on and off for the next two months since her hormones are erratic after the miscarriage." "Will she be alright?" KJ asked.  "She'll be fine," the doctor assured him. "I'll add another medicine to fight off the side effects. Just make sure she is fed properly and gets enough rest and exercise." "Can we take her home?" Somi asked.  "Yes, she can go home today," the doctor replied. "Give her plenty of fluids and she'll be fine over the weekend."  "We'll take care of her," Somi said. The doctor nodded and walked away.  "I'll cancel your next appearances for today," she told KJ. "Mirae needs you more."  KJ thanked her and rushed to Mirae's room. She was unconscious. He touched her forehead. It was burning.  "Oppa…"  Psycho entered the room. "The discharge papers are ready," he informed. "The car is waiting downstairs. She can go home now."  KJ nodded as Psycho handed him the papers. He signed them and asked him to bring in a wheelchair to escort Mirae to the car. Within half an hour, she was wheeled into the car. KJ dismissed everyone. He wanted to take her home himself.  Sejong rushed forward when KJ entered the mansion, carrying an unconscious Mirae.  "Sir, what-"  She looked extremely worried seeing the young mistress in that state.  "Prepare some food for her," he instructed. "And ask some of the maids to help undress her."  Sejong did not question him and immediately obeyed. He carried Mirae upstairs and gently laid her down on the bed. She was still unconscious due to the anesthesia but KJ was worried. What if she suffered more side effects?  Two maids walked in and bowed.  "Dress her up into something more comfortable," he ordered. They bowed again and began to work while KJ headed for the kitchen.  The cook, who was preparing the ingredients, straightened his back and bowed down. His name was Jong Dongshin and he was one of the oldest employees of the mansion.  "Master Jiwon," he greeted. "We will take care of the mistress' food-"  But Jiwon was not listening. He pulled up his sleeves and put on an apron.  "I'll make her dinner," he announced. The cook stared at him in surprise.  "Master, we can-" he began but KJ cut him off.  "Get me all the ingredients for chicken porridge," he said, heating the pot. "And from now on, I'll cook the meals for my wife whenever she is sick. If I'm not around by any chance, I'll leave the list of food to prepare for her. She may eat a lot but whenever she is sick, she can't digest everything. So follow the meal plan I made for her." The cook and his staff were astonished at the Master's dedication towards his wife. Sejong, who was also there, smiled as KJ expertly cooked chicken porridge.  Sejong never dreamed that she would witness a pure love like this. They are really perfect for each other, she thought happily. ….  Mirae stirred. She slowly opened her eyes. Everything was blurry and it took several seconds for her vision to clear up. For a wild moment, she wondered where she was.  Then she realized that she was back at the mansion. One of the maids, who was beside her, stood up as soon as she noticed Mirae moving.  "Mistress!" she exclaimed as she hurried forward to help Mirae sit up. "Are you feeling alright?"  "How did I get here?" she asked weakly.  "You fainted at work," the maid informed her. "Master Jiwon brought you back home."  Jiwon…  "Where is he?" Mirae asked.  "He's downstairs in the kitchen," the maid replied. "I'll call the kitchen."  She picked up a receiver on the bedside table and dialed a number. "Cook, the mistress is awake," she informed into the speaker.  Soon, KJ arrived holding a tray. The maid stood up, bowed and quietly exited the room, leaving the couple alone.  KJ kept the tray on the bedside table and touched her forehead.  "Your temperature is still high," he commented. "Eat this and then have your medicines." Mirae was looking down at her clasped hands. She nodded, unable to meet his eyes.  "Are…" she started. "Are you still mad at me?"  Her voice was full of guilt.  "You did nothing wrong," he finally said. "I… I ooverreacted without thinking. I should have acted more mature."  "I'd have been mad too," Mirae assured him. "I was afraid that I may have hurt you. I really didn't want to think like that and I should have thought better-"  But her words were cut by a sudden hug. Mirae was astonished as KJ held on to her tightly.  "KJ, are you alright?" she asked.  "When you recover," KJ said. "Will you go somewhere with me?"  Mirae was startled by his behavior. She wanted to ask where they were going but the question died in her throat. There was something in his request which was pulling her towards him.  Patting his back, she replied, "Yes."
