Chapter 124 - Hann Constructions (I)

Name:The Idol's Wife Author:Tea_Tae
KJ laid out an outline of Hann Constructions on the table. Huddle around him were Ash and Mirae, who were concentrating on the blueprint in front of them.

"Where did you get this?" Mirae asked, astounded. "Didn't you give up your inheritance? Would the current management just readily give away the map of the head office like this?"

"Of course not," KJ rolled his eyes. "This is an old map of the building. There were a few renovations of the office but the overall floor plan and basic outlines remain the same. However, you won't see any of the secret passageways in any of these maps. Those are only stored away in the minds of the people who worked directly for the Kwon family. They'd have to memorize the tunnels."

"So that's why the tunnel which Mirae mentioned earlier is not here," Ash traced, pointing out the spot where the President's office is located.

"Exactly," KJ replied. "Those are here."

He pointed at his head. "My grandfather had me memorize all the secret passages. In case if had decided to inherit the company, this information will come in handy."

"So what's the plan?" Ash asked, leaning forward.

"It's simple but a little risky," KJ said. "We'll only need your help for getting into the building. The risk starts after that."

"Hann Constructions is a sponsor for one of your dramas," KJ went on. "They've invested almost five hundred million dollars in it. As part of the drama negotiations, you'll go there with your PA Mirae."

"What sort of negotiations?" Ash frowned. "We'll need a strong reason to call a meeting with the bigshots there."

They thought for a while. Snapping her fingers, Mirae suggested, "They have invested in the drama already, right? Throw a tantrum. Threaten to quit the drama by citing that you want better opportunities with a rival firm. The only reason they invested so much money is because of the fact that you're Ash from EXOTIC. The top visual of this country. If you quit, their project will fail and they'll lose millions. So that will bring out all the big guns to the negotiation's table."

"That will work," KJ agreed. "So you'll accompany Ash to the meeting as his PA but only he will enter the room with the executives for the discussion and buy us time. You will be asked to sit in the waiting room, which is perfect for us."

He pointed on the map where the waiting room of Hann Constructions was located. "There's a ventilation tunnel here, which is linked to the IT's office. If you can enter it, then all you have to do is freeze the security cameras for at least fifteen minutes. You gotta make sure there are no suspicions raised."

"After disabling the cameras, you'll get ten minutes to slip into my grandfather's office on the eighth floor," KJ said. "Once there, look for a CD which has access to the Cartel's data. The CD is well hidden so you won't find it in any desk or in plain sight. It may be in some kind of safe or locker with a password. So you'll need your best hacking software to access it. But keep track of your time. You'll get only eight minutes in there. If you don't get it within six minutes, abort the mission and return to Ash's side. We'll try another day."

"Understood," Mirae nodded.

Ash's face was scrunched up in worry. "KJ, the security of the building is top notch," he said. "Moreover, the IT room may not be empty when Mirae attempts to enter it…"

"Leave that to me," Mirae said. "I know a way to distract any person in it."

"I want to know one more thing," Ash demanded. He was skeptical of the plan yet had faith in KJ's abilities. However, they were entering possibly dangerous territory. Even if KJ's family owned Hann Constructions, the possibility of the Cartel's men being in there was also high…

"Name those you're suspicious of being the Cartel's lackeys," Ash said. Mirae, too, looked at KJ curiously. It was crucial to point out possible sleuths of the Cartel in case if they needed to be on the alert.

KJ took out a file from the bag which was lying next to his chair. He placed it on the table.

"There isn't must information on who may be the Cartel's spies," he said. "But I am most suspicious of this guy. Shun Oguri. He took over the post of the President after Jung Taewon's death."

KJ had checked up on the new President's background after he learnt of him from the original timeline. Even though he wasn't of much impact there, KJ had still decided to have his background checked out. Turns out he was not a clean chit.

"How can you tell that he is one of Cartel's men?" Mirae frowned. "Wasn't he chosen by the Board of Directors? Why would they choose him if they suspected him of being Cartel's men?"

"Shun Oguri was a mere Manager at Hann Constructions but he rose in ranks quite rapidly," KJ explained. "In fact, he went from Manager to Assistant Director in a span of six months."

"Unless he was an exceptionally good worker," Ash said. "It's strange that he got promotions in such a short time."

"So the board members were probably in on this?" Mirae asked. "But they've been loyal to the company for years. Why would they suddenly choose to elect Shun Oguri over other candidates? Surely, Secretary Lee was a better match for the post?"

Before KJ could answer, Ash replied, "Bribed them, maybe? Or blackmail? Either way the Board of Directors chose him."

"Exactly," KJ added. "They chose him and he had been abusing his powers for the past decade. But that is not all. Read the file more carefully."

Ash picked up the file while Mirae looked at it over his shoulders. Reading the pages, Ash frowned.

"This…" he said. "This states here that Shun Oguri made a transfer of nearly three million dollars a few days before Jung Taewon's death."

Mirae frowned as she peered at the document. "He made this transfer through the same bank from where CEO Ahn received money. Why is this bank popping up so much? Does that mean that he…"

"Yes Mirae," KJ affirmed her suspicions. "There is a chance that Shun Oguri was the one who ordered your father and mother's death."
