Name:The Fallen Merman Author:
More than 50 members of the Red-Throated Bird were still trapped in M Harbor. The stranded party was commanded by Huang Ci, an M2-grade Ore gland alpha who had taken refuge in the valley.

If it hadn’t been for IOA agents hijacking the train cargo and creating a significant delay, which thereby resulted in huge casualties and losses among the Red-Throated Bird members in charge of the escorting, they would’ve had sufficient time to escape to the temporary base that had been built in preparation, and they wouldn’t have been disrupted and intercepted by PBB’s two major special forces.

Huang Ci shut off the communication device and smashed his fist against a dead tree, then spat in rage, “It’s all that geezer Lan Shide’s fault. Useless waste of a diamond gland, can’t even handle a bunch of kids and got wiped out instead. Now the cargo’s gone, and the 109 Research Institute is still bugging us with endless questions. How do I report this to the boss when I go back?”

A Hyena alpha offered advice, “For the time being, we can only retreat to ensure that casualties are kept to a minimum. Boss himself said that Bai Chunian isn’t easy to deal with. The old man will understand.”

“There’s no other way to deal with this.” Huang Ci pointed at the omega resting under the tree and bellowed, “You! Stall them and cover our retreat!”

The omega he shouted at was Golden Silk Spider.

Golden Silk Spider sat under the tree and moved the silken mummy situated behind him in front of him. Since the mummy’s joints were pliable and flexible and in order to transport the humanoid mummy, Golden Silk Spider had tucked its limbs, positioned it between his folded legs, and linked both of his hands around its waist. He had then closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, his face nestling on the cocoon’s hollow human neck. The rifle rested on his lap, firmly pressed against him.

Huang Ci had never worked together with this creature before. In the past, Huang Ci’s stomach would turn and his spine would tingle simply from the sight of him. This tool was one of the experimental subjects that the Boss bought from the 109 Research Institute. He seemed like a mute, and he was never seen without the frightening humanoid cocoon lying in his embrace.

Golden Silk Spider, who had been drifting off, roused and slowly raised his head. He could see Golden Silk Spider’s hard, apathetic glare through the mask of the bird’s beak as the spider’s pupil-less eyes glowed with a metallic sheen. There was no way for him to tell whether he was alive or dead.

The Hyena Alpha was used to bullying the weak. The Red-Throated Bird was no better either. Seeing that he didn’t stand up to him, he relaxed his vigilance, prodded Golden Silk Spider’s head harder with the muzzle, and raised his voice, “Did you hear me?!”

Slowly, Golden Silk Spider nodded, and then he held the mummy in his arms. He twisted its joints into an arc fit for carrying on his back, then drew a spider thread from his smooth and fair fingertips and wove the mummy around his back.

They were on the run, so they had no time to wait for an experimental subject to slowly pack up. The Hyena Alpha impatiently jabbed the muzzle at the mummy’s head. “Is there a real person wrapped in it ah?”

Golden Silk Spider’s hand had already raised his weapon before his muzzle even touched the mummy. A single bullet from the AK74 hit the Hyena Alpha’s chest, and the man instantly erupted into a spray of blood. Blood mist drifted through the deep forest of decaying trees, where layers of pristine white spider webs as thin as cotton thread hung from the branches.

The Hyena Alpha’s body had dissipated in the blink of an eye. Those who saw this scene felt their legs go weak, and stiffly, they stepped 10 meters away from the Golden Silk Spider’s vicinity.

Golden Silk Spider placed the humanoid cocoon on its back and stood up with the AK74, acting as if nothing had happened.

Huang Ci, alarmed by what he’d witnessed, immediately took his other comrades to retreat. At that moment, he couldn’t care about dealing with Golden Silk Spider anymore; he didn’t dare offend this thing.

Forget it, just leave him here. Our pursuers are more likely to come over from this route. That damned spider should be able to ward them off for a while.

Huang Ci took a step back and led the others away. M Harbor’s general topography was harsh, with many narrow mountain roads. Huang Ci commanded they split up and assemble near the ship outside of M Harbor.

But, halfway into their retreat, they discovered that every pathway had an ambush waiting for them. Both the IOA agents and the PBB’s special forces worked together to surround and subdue them.

Their flanking maneuver and suppression were aided by the IOA’s special forces. Lu Yan and Bi Lanxing were among their number, and Rimbaud was in charge of following and safeguarding them both. The He Brothers spearheaded PBB’s Storm Special Forces, while an M2 Whale Shark Alpha led the Mad Sharks.

PBB’s Mad Sharks were the Marine Corps, and their team was mostly composed of aquatic glands. They’re armed with M27 infantry automatic rifles, and they wear dark blue camouflage combat uniforms, goggles, leather gloves, and combat boots equipped with serrated daggers.

The Whale Shark Alpha, who led the team, looked like he was only in his early twenties with a slender build. Although his face was painted in camo, his handsome features showed through. Every now and then, he would cast a sneaky peek toward Rimbaud.

Rimbaud listened intently to Bai Chunian in the communicator. The special troops of the IOA were separated into two units. Han Xingqian, Xiao Xun, and Bai Chunian assisted the Storm Special Forces to take another route to capture Golden Silk Spider.

Bai Chunian, “If everything goes smoothly on your side, come over from the marked route I sent you ASAP. Double-teaming against Golden Silk Spider can lessen casualties.”

Rimbaud scrutinized his fingernails. “I’ll kill these fleeing little ants first.”

Bai Chunian, “Mhm. Be careful.”

Rimbaud was crawling on the rough ledge. The blue luster of his fish tail was dimly visible; inside its translucence, the visible snow-white fish bones were perfectly aligned. As a member of the most outstanding mermaid clan in the sea, he had an irresistible allure to those who possessed aquatic glands. Moreover, his physique wasn’t the ‘soft and delicate type’; rather, he flaunted a trim waist and strong back; and, since just his upper body was bandaged, half of his abdominal muscles were visible. To protect his chest, he wore a bulletproof vest that fit snugly over his bandages.

As the two teams proceeded, the Whale Shark Alpha approached Rimbaud instinctively and couldn’t resist striking up a conversation.

“Uhm, which IOA department do you belong to?”

Rimbaud didn’t notice him until he heard him speak. He turned around and showed him the IOA’s freebird logo on the back of the bulletproof vest.

“The secret service team. Ha, impressive.” The Whale Shark Alpha eased his walk while carrying a gun and matched Rimbaud’s pace. He touched his nose. “You…are quite handsome. What should I call you?”

“I’ll make it cheap for you and allow you to call me dad.” With his light physique, Rimbaud leaped and distanced himself about ten meters away by utilizing electromagnetic wave absorption.

With his lips curved, Sea Anemone Alpha, who was traveling with Whale Shark Alpha, bumped him on the shoulder. “Cap’n Wei, reserved beauties are not easy to chase, and none of the omegas in IOA are easy to mess with. Be careful so as to not get your arm chopped,” he teased.

As he watched Rimbaud’s departing silhouette, Whale Shark Alpha sighed and then struck Sea Anemone Alpha on the shoulder. “Keep up, we can’t let the others get hurt.”

“Come on, Cap’n Wei. IOA’s little Os are fierce. They’re all macho omegas.”

“What bullshit. They’re special agents who do intelligence work and are charging with us. In case the commander asked if there were any casualties, the blame would fall on us.”

“Okay, okay, let’s go.”
