Chapter 406 - One Year Left To Live...

The emergency room was bustling with doctors and nurses when Tanaga and the nurses arrived. Tanaga didn't know what to do. It was the love of his life that was lying on the stretcher this time. She meant more to him than she could ever imagine.

As the doctor checked Ashley and tested her, Tanaga sat beside his wife, holding her hands until the doctor finished.

"Sir, I'm sorry, but you will need to move. If you don't, it'll be hard for me to check your wife and test her for any illnesses if you insist on staying there and being in my way," the doctor said, seeming quite irritated.

Tanaga had no choice but to get up and let the doctor do his job. He did move, but he stood nearby, scowling at the doctor as he performed some tests.

One thing he hates the most was another man touching his wife's body. Unfortunately, it's too late to ask for a female doctor. He just needs to take it all in and gritted his teeth as he touched his wife.

A couple of minutes later, the doctor told a nurse to wheel Ashley into another room for some more tests.

"Make sure you get enough blood samples for testing." He told the nurse how many needed and what test needs to be done.

"Yes, doctor!" Said the nurse as they wheeled Ashley out of the emergency room.

Once the nurse took Ashley away, the doctor explained to Tanaga that his wife would be okay and how he didn't need to worry.

He didn't suspect she had gotten food poisoning, but instead, was pregnant. He had asked a nurse to do a pregnancy test on Ashley once she's awake and do some other tests.

When Tanaga heard the news, he didn't know if he should've been overjoyed or not. But he decided it was best to see his grandmother while waiting for Ashley. Her time was running out by the mere second.

He told one of his bodyguards to stay in the case and explain to her where he was if she was woken up and looked for him in the hospital. He also told them to let him know right away once she's done so they could come back.

When he arrived at the ICU room and saw how his grandma looked, he was almost in tears. She had all kinds of gadgets hooked up to her, and she looked haggard and much older than she did last time.

The doctor noticed him standing by the glass pane, watching his grandma, and came over to speak to him.

"Excuse me! By chance, are you her grandson?" The doctor asked, hopefully.

Tanaga nodded.

"I'm Tanaga Jones, you are right, I'm indeed her grandson," he admitted.

I'm Dr. Evergreen; nice to meet you," he said as he offered Tanaga a handshake.

"How is she doing?" He asked next, ignoring the doctor's handshake instead of looking at his grandmother while sadness was emitted from his voice.

"As you know from her last surgery, she didn't do too well. With this heart attack, it only made her condition worse. Based on our calculations, give or take, she only has a year at most," the doctor admitted.

Tanaga's knees felt weak from what the doctor had just told him. At any moment, he could've fallen to the ground right after what he heard the doctor said fell on the ground when he heard what the doctor had said.

"Are you sure? Is there nothing we could do? Doctor, if there's any other way, we have money, and I'm willing to pay whatever-"

The doctor cut him off by shaking his head.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Jones, but no matter how much money you have, it won't help her," he admitted before continuing to speak.

"The only advice I can give you as of now would be to make her last year on Earth the happiest. And another thing I'd like to know is if you would like us to inform her of this, or if you want to do it yourself?" He asked curiously.

Tanaga had to think about it. He knew that a discussion with Ashley and her family was in order. Out of everyone he knew, they'd be able to give him the advice and guidance he needed.

"Since I can't speak with her right now, if she wakes up, could you inform her that I came by to visit? And that my wife and I will be waiting for her in the visiting room until she wants to see us," he said as he turned around, returning to the emergency room to check on his wife.

When Tanaga arrived back at the emergency room, Ashley was back already awake and was waiting for him. She was dressed and finished all her tests.

The doctor had informed her that she'd get the lab results in an hour or so, so all she had to do was wait.

She saw Tanga walking towards her, and she smiled widely.

"Honey! You're here! I'm sorry if I scared you before. The doctor thinks that why this happened is because we might be pregnant. The results aren't out yet, but I do hope it's true. I can't wait for the result. I hope we're pregnant. This way, the children can grow up without a huge gap in their ages."

As a reply, Tanaga hugged his wife, not saying a single word. He trembled as he and Ashley embraced, making her worry for him. She caressed his back, trying her best to calm him down.

"Love, what's going on? Whatever it is, you can share it with me. Is it grandmother Hanada? How is she? Did you see it here already?" Ashley asked, bombarding Tanaga with multiple questions.

She tried pulling away, but Tanaga wouldn't let her go. It was then Ashley realized Tanaga was actually crying. She made him sit on the hospital bed, trying to calm him down and talking to him as gently as she could.

She let him cry for a while, which was when he was in control of his emotions. Afterward, she finally got up and faced him.

"Sweetheart, no matter what it is that bothers you, remember that I'm here, and you could always tell me everything. I want to share your burden with you. Don't keep it all to yourself," Ashley said as she lifted his chin and wiped his tears on his face.

On cue, the doctor came back with the result of her testing.

"Mr. and Mrs. Jones, congratulations. You're pregnant. It's been about three weeks, so I suggest you be careful since you're in your first trimester. Your previous record shows that you have twins, and they are less than three months old now. This is a good thing, as your children will be less than 2 years apart, making it a not so huge age gap," the doctor happily informed the couple.

Ashley grinned.

"That's exactly what I just told my husband," she said as she rejoiced. She was pregnant, after all. It was no small feat.

Tanaga, on the other hand, was stunned and unable to utter a single word.Find authorized novels in , faster updates, better experience, Please click #'s-contracted-wife-%5Benglish%5D_13713194705932805/one-year-left-to-live..._49549780963090634 for visiting.

When he finally regained his senses, he lifted Ashley and twirled her in the air.

"We're going to have a baby! We're going to have a baby!" He exclaimed.

"Let's go and see grandma Hanada. Hopefully, she's awake already so that we can tell her the good news," Ashley hoped, really excited to visit the older woman as she wanted to tell her the good news and help her in any way she could.

Once they entered the elevator, Tanaga told Ashley about grandma Hanada's current condition, specifically, the part about how long she had left here on Earth.

Ashley, upon hearing the terrible news, burst into tears, sobbing uncontrollably. She loved grandma Hanada so much, and to think she didn't have much time left in the world was unfair.

Nevertheless, the first thing they wanted to do when they visited her was to announce that they were pregnant, the second being that they'd get married for the second time. After that, they'd all move back to Japan and live there, as they needed to make sure grandma Hanada was happy during her very last year or so on Earth. No matter what it took.

When they arrived at the ICU department, grandma Hanada was awake at the time, and the doctor let the couple enter to speak with her, but also making them wear hospital gowns, caps, masks, and gloves as a preventative way to make sure they were sanitized before they spoke to her.

The last thing they wanted to do was further complicate and worsen the older woman's health, after all.  Once they did all that, they were ushered to grandma Hanada's bedside.

The older woman has a smile on her face to show her happiness to still be alive and kicking.

"If only she knew that she only has less than a year to live, would she still be able to smile as she was doing now?" Ashley whispered to Tanaga as they approached the older woman...
