Chapter 25: The Reappearance Of The Jade Bracelet.

Not long after Yan Dao left, and as she was wallowing in her misfortune, footsteps sounded behind her once again. Thinking that her second brother had returned stubbornly, she immediately threw a pillow towards the sound, “Why have you returned? Hmph!”

Only to see Yan Jing standing near the door, smiling gently with the pillow in one hand and a food tray balanced on the other.

“Yan Dao mentioned that you’re awake, do have some porridge.”

“Take it away, I don’t wish to eat.”

As if he had not heard her words, he stirred the porridge slightly before take a spoonful and placing it near her lips, “Open up.”

Reaching within his shirt, he grabbed an exquisite pouch before placing it on her hand.

The raging Yan Luan, who was prepared to retort against him once again, froze in her tracks as she stared at the object in shock.

Yan Luan furrowed her brows tightly together, How would I know?

“I don’t know, but I’ve heard from my Momo about her being close friends with Yan Fei, and what happened that day was instigated by her illegitimate sister.”

Madame Bian had always been an unremovable thorn within Yan Fei’s heard, which is why she had hated every single person of House Yan, especially Princess YongKang and Yan Luan. It’s highly possible that the attempted murder was a way to wipe her from this world, while Chu YunShang‘a actions were merely the unrestrained jealousy of a noble lady.

As it was her first time, Yan Luan had ended up spending three whole days resting within her quarters… Ignoring the fact that her brothers would visit her every night just to use her as a body pillow…

Yan Luan woke up around midnight, and as she stared at her sleeping brothers beside her, her pondering eyes were somewhat unfocused.

According to the history she knew, MiYang WengZhu had died early, right before her elder brother, Wu Di, ascended to the throne, while Yan Jing, who had became the emperor, would die three years after her death in a war. Yan Dao, on the other hand, had disappeared entirely from history right after Yan Luan’s tragic death.

What actually happened to these three people that history failed to capture?

It was now June, and the summer heat was at its peak. Queen Dowager Chu had demanded that she would reside in her summer home with her servants in tow and return only when summer is over, but her words had been disapproved by the many voices at court, and she had killed a number of the court men in her anger.

The court was in a huge uproar, while Yan Jing and Yan Dao were both summoned back home to discuss this issue.

As for Yan Luan, she had been left in the villa as both of them could not bear to make her suffer the summer heat within the city.

These few days alone had been the best days of her life, as she would spend her entire day hiding from the heat in her room while eating desserts and reading some novels.

“It seems that you’re really enjoying this.” Yan Dao’s voice sounded up suddenly from the door, giving her a huge shock as she jumped away from couch.

“Y…you, didn’t you leave?”

Yan Dao walked towards her after commanding a handmaiden to fetch him some warm water. He took off his outer coat quickly before tossing it simply to the side, while his eyes glinted darkly at her as he took the book from within her grasp.

“‘The Ghosts of the Chilling Mountain’? It seems that your love for books would never fade.” He muttered softly before continuing, “I’m not well versed with political matters, hence I had returned to keep you company.”

His dark eyes moved away from her book before landing on her huge twin mountains, giving her a shock as she quickly wrapped her coat tightly around herself.

Yan Luan glared angrily at him before snatching her book back from him, while silently hiding her feet under her long dress, as the spot he had bitten a few days ago was still somewhat painful…
