Chapter 278 - I will Convince Him!

The children were playing on the carpeted floor of the master's bedroom when John arrived. Catherine was folding fresh laundry clothes and putting them in the closet.

John sat on the edge of the bed. "Wifey, I have bad news for you. Wait...did your sister called you already and informed you where she's staying nowadays?" he asked.

Catherine shook her head. "Not yet. She wasn't replying to my call and text..." she answered.

John released a deep sigh, he's finding it hard to tell Catherine the bad news because Caroline is her sister. She would be affected as well, but sooner or later she will know about it, so he better tell her now.

Catherine brows furrowed. "Hubby...what's wrong?" she asked, she can no longer hold on to the suspense, wanting to know what the bad news is all about.

"My brother Mike visited my office earlier. We talked about what happened to him and your sister before the fight started..."

"What did happened?"

"When your sister returned to her husband's side, she brought with her a painting that Mike didn't give any importance. He accidentally saw the painting again and saw the name of a guy named Alex. The message says...Much Love, Alex. My brother suspected that Alex was your sister's lover. They fought because Caroline didn't confirm his suspicion. He wanted her not to leave the house, if she leaves, he will no longer accept her back. But Caroline still left, that is why my brother is furious. He was suspecting that Caroline was staying at Alex's house right now," he explained.

Catherine brows knitted together. "That is not right. It's only a suspicion...there is no evidence..." she protested.

"I know," John sighed. "But the problem is your sister...she left instead of clearing things with my brother...she disappeared again. That what angers my brother the most. She did it before and she did it again the second time around. Naturally, my brother was angry, he was insulted and his ego and pride were wounded again. He can no longer trust her."

"Bad news indeed!" Catherine agreed sadly, shaking her head in distress.

"No. The fight and quarrel is not bad news. Because misunderstanding and fight between couples happen all the time...they can be fixed... the real bad news is..." his voice faltered.

"What?" she asked holding her breath because she had a feeling that what her husband is about to tell her, she won't like it.

"Mike wanted to file an annulment against your sister as soon as possible. He no longer trusted your sister. He told me that it's over between him and Caroline. Their marriage is over. Therefore he wants an annulment," John concluded.

"Oh... God!" Catherine gasped in shock, she was shaken, she rubbed her temple with her fingers. She can't help but get affected by the couple's problem. "Why is it that your brother is so quick to decide!?" she lamented. She was sad to see such a happy family broken in two just because of a simple misunderstanding.

John rubbed his wife's back. He noticed that Catherine was already carrying the burden of her sister. "Shh...don't worry so much about their problem. They are responsible a.d.u.l.ts already, they know what they're doing. Things like this... we can't prevent them from happening," he said trying to tell her that any intervention from the relatives might only fall in vain.

"Hubby, I want to talk to your brother. I will try to convince him!" she said. She just can't let a happy marriage go down in the drain just like that.

John sighed. "Wife, even if they continue to stay under one roof if my brother already lost his trust in his wife the marriage will crumble just the same. If trust is broken, it's hard to repair a relationship," he said.

Catherine paused for a moment, remembering that at some point in the past when John broke her trust with the incident in the swimming pool with Ella, it nearly killed her. She has to go away and healed her heart before she can be whole again. But she doesn't want to bring that out right now because the problem is not about them, it's all about Caroline and her husband's marriage that is on the rocks. Instead of helping they might add to the problems. She sighed. "I guess you are right... hubby," she gives up.

"Yeah, that's right. We can only wait on the sideline and watch how the events will unfold. We have to remember that, your sister and my brother have their own minds. It's their problem, we can't fix it for them. They have to fix it themselves, and if they can no longer stay in a harmonious relationship then it's a waste of time to force them to reconcile. Let's just wait...maybe...they can find it in their hearts to forgive each other and reunite. For now, we can't do anything for them except to hear their problems and grievances and give proper advises and it's up to them if they follow them or not..."

Catherine's face registered a sad look. "I'm afraid...that...if they can't fix this problem...it will ultimately lead to the demise of their marriage. I pity the twins, I felt sad for them. If their parents finally agreed to the annulment, they won't be able to enjoy growing up to a happy family with complete parents," she said, releasing a deep sigh.

John rubbed his wife's back. "Every couple will undergo lots of problems in their married life. After all, marriage is not a bed of roses all the time. We just need to continue praying to God that he will enlighten the couple's minds so that their family can be whole again."

"Yes, you are right, because when parents fight and got separated, it's always been the children who will suffer the most. By the way, where are the twins right now?" Catherine asked.

"They are in Mother Susan's house. She can take care of them while the twins' parents are preoccupied with their affairs," John answered.

"That's Good! So... what is Mother Susan's reaction to the current crisis that hit the couple?" she asked.

"Ah... my mother doesn't use her influence much on the couple. She told me once, that as much as possible if the couple encounter problems on their own, she will try to let my brother decide for himself. After all, she won't always be around to take care of his problems. He must learn to decide for himself, whether the outcome is bad or good my brother can always learn from his mistakes without depending on someone else all the time," John explained.

"I agree with your mother," Catherine said.

"Let me know if your sister tries to contact you..."

"Why? I thought we have agreed not to dwell on their problems," she asked, confused.

"It's important to know Caroline's whereabouts so that we can locate her for safety purposes. Besides, if you know where she was staying, we can tell my brother about her location so that they can have a heart to heart talk before the annulment will get into the lawyer's hands. As for what will happen after they talk? Well... it's up to them. The solution to their problems lies in their own hands," John concluded.

"Okay, I got you, hubby," she responded.

John stood up. "I'm going back to my office. I still have some important things to do," he said and planted a kiss on his wife's forehead before leaving the room.
