Chapter 256 - My Life Is Perfect

Three weeks later.

Monday, at 3:00 in the afternoon, inside Susan's company building.

Mike's 60 square feet office was fully furnished, ready for occupancy. It has the usual office amenities such as a bathroom, flat-screen TV, a cabinet, two desks, and a small living room for Mike to rest and entertain guests and clients. It has a nice view, overlooking the busy street and the park on the left side.

Susan was the one who hired an interior decorator to make the office come to life. Since the office was just inside the building that she owned, it's easy for her to watch the progress of the renovation until it's already finished.

Mike only has to bring Althea to the new office on the first day and have her meet her mother.

"Mother... this is my secretary Althea Merano. Althea, this is my mother Susan," he introduced the two women.

Althea bowed her head as a respect for the distinguished woman in front of her. "Good morning, Madam, nice meeting you!" she said cheerfully.

Susan nods her head and smiled at the secretary. "Nice meeting you too!" she replied.

Althea and Mike settled on their desk wearing a pleasant smile on their faces.

Susan was studying the secretary's profile for a while. She took a piece of paper and pen from Mike's desk and wrote something on it. Then she went to her side. "Althea, can you buy some refreshment in the restaurant across this building? Here's the list," she gave her order list and money as well.

"Yes, Madam!" Althea accepted the list and money, then rose to her feet and departed from the room.

Susan walked towards the door and locked it from the inside. She went to her son's desk and lowered herself onto the chair facing her son. "Your secretary looks like Caroline a bit. Where did you find her?"

Mike smiled. "We meet in a hotel when I'm vacationing in Singapore. She works as a hotel staff there. She's back in the country and was currently looking for a job so I offered her one," he explained. "What's wrong, Mom?"

"She resembled your wife a little..." she repeated.

Mike raised a brow. "Is that an issue?"

He was greeted with his mother's silence.

Susan sighed. She remembered so well how John her eldest son was conceived, in the office while she was still working as a secretary to John's father. She was afraid that it will happen to her son this time especially that the secretary is pretty and s.e.xy.

"What's wrong, Mom?" Mike asked again.

Susan looked at her son in the eyes. "No matter what happened, don't be tempted to have an affair with your secretary. Remember that you're a married man!" she warned him.

Mike snorted. "Mom, that would never happen! I'm a married man, I have a beautiful wife and I'm a proud father of soon to be born twin babies...my life is perfect. Why would I destroy it?" he argued.

Susan was shaking her head. She knows how men's brain works when constantly surrounded by a pretty girl in a close enclosure space such as an office. "Son, I was a secretary of John's father once when I was younger. I had an affair with him even if he is a married man. The reason why I told you about this, is to remind you that temptation is sometimes hard to avoid. So, be wise and vigilant...and much better if we switch secretary..." she suggested.

Mike's eyes bulged. "W-what?"

"Yes. My secretary is already 40 years old and old enough to be your mother," Susan suggested.

Mike erupted into laughter. "Mother please...don't lower yourself to this. Have faith in me. What are you afraid of? That I'm going to destroy my marriage life just because of my secretary? That's an absurd thinking!" he declared.

Susan can't understand why her son refused to swap secretaries with her? But she can't force him. "Alright, since you won't agree with my proposal, then I'm going to order a five-set of conservative uniform for your secretary," she offered. She doesn't like the s.e.xy dress that Althea was wearing today.

Mike rolled his eyes. "Mom, you don't have to do this. Why do you have to worry so much about my secretary? Why make a big deal of something that is not happening yet? Just because she's pretty, you're acting suspicious for no real reason. Please don't jump to conclusion right away," he complained and begged.

Susan sighed heavily. Her son won't be able to understand her point of view. It happened to her before, it can happen to anyone again and her son is not an exemption.

"Alright, Mom. If giving five sets of conservative uniforms to my secretary can give you peace of mind then, I agree with it. Anything else?" he asked. Even though his mother is being judgmental towards his secretary, he can't blame her though because she undergoes the same situation in the past. She was just reacting based on her previous history. But he can't openly say to his mother that she was just exaggerating, and that, he was different. She might get insulted.

Susan smiled. "Okay, I trust you son. Please don't follow my track record. I'm not proud of what I have done in the past falling in love with a married man, almost ruining a marriage. That was me in my younger years, but I know better now. On the other hand, if I didn't fall in love with a married man, your brother John won't be born in this world. I'm still thankful to God that something good comes out of the bad affair that I have done in the past," she said.

"Don't worry, Mom. I understand your fears and worries. I can assure you, I'm not going to be swayed to the wrong side. I love my wife and my family," Mike assured his mother.

Feeling better, Susan rose to her feet and went to the door and unlocked it. Then she went back to the seat. "Do you like your new office, son?" she asked his opinion, trying to change topic.

"Yes, of course!" Mike answered. "Mom, thank you very much for the renovation and the interior decoration. I love it, simply superb!" he raved.

"How about the furniture?" Susan asked.

"The interior design of this office is awesome and the furniture's are to my liking, Mom. When it comes to your ideas, I like them because they are modern and classy! I can't ask for more," Mike rained high praises on his mother's hard work and contribution.

"Good, nice to know that you like the designs I have chosen for your office," Susan felt satisfied with her son's praises.

There was a knock at the door and Althea entered the room. "I'm back..." she announced. She just came back, carrying the refreshments she bought from the restaurant. She placed them in the center table.

"Alright, let's eat our snack!" Susan said.

The mother and son went to the sofa. Susan beckoned the shy secretary to join them.

After consuming their refreshment, Susan left the room and returned to her office upstairs on the 20th floor.
