Chapter 188 - Comatose

Mike continues staring at the ceiling of the bedroom, in agony.

Why did everything go wrong?

He was so happy... they were so happy?

But his wife looks happy every time he sees her.

Was Caroline really happy inside or she was just pretending all along?

Why did she hide something from him?

If it's about money problems, health or anything...they are worth sharing with him because he was her husband.

Maybe, his wife's problem is not about those things...much more deeper....much more complicated.

Then slowly it dawned on him the story about Bernadette and Mike...was that story real? Does it even exist in paperback or Caroline just made it up?

If the story is real?

Was her wife following Bernadette's footsteps?

Do Caroline intend to come back to his life one day and she expects him to just accept her with open arms without asking what is the reason she disappeared?

So surreal!

Maybe, when Caroline was telling her the story of Mike and Bernadette, she was already experiencing internal conflict during those times, then he remembered that she cried once while they were discussing the story.

He only has three theories.

If he based Caroline's disappearance on Bernadette's story.

It's either that Caroline is a lesbian...

She has a woman lover...

Or she has a male lover...

Or she killed someone?

The last theory is the farthest from reality because Caroline is not a violent woman and why would she kill someone...what is the reason and what for?

He can't remember that she angered someone or she has an enemy because she seldom gets out of her house and she doesn't even have a close friend, to begin with, only her cousin Grace and her sister Catherine were her close confidant.

And even the possibility of having a woman or male lover is still impossible to happen.

Caroline never attempts to hide her phone from him.

Only a guilty woman hides their phone away from their husbands or partners.

Aargh!

His head hurts.

Too much thinking gives him a pounding headache.

The night is fast approaching...

As darkness starts to loom around him, the pain of losing Caroline makes him want to scream at the top of his lungs in anger. He doesn't deserve this kind of cruel treatment from Caroline! It's so unfair!

He loves and trusts her so much, but what she did to him?

She vanished without leaving a trace!

His wife left no trail to follow and a confusing story as a clue.

But the story of Bernadette keeps swirling in his mind. The more he thinks about it, his suspicion was growing that it has to do with Caroline's disappearance.

Then he remembered that Caroline told her that the author probably wants the reader to understand that some secrets are better left hidden so that it won't destroy a beautiful relationship.

If that is the case, the question would be, if Caroline will come back one day...can he accept her back?

He can only answer that question after she will answer all his questions and he will be satisfied!

If Caroline is thinking that he is like that Mike in the story...she is wrong!

Her abandoning him without explaining the reason why is not a joke!

He won't tolerate it!

It's so painful undergoing this kind of torture, he's going crazy every minute that he was thinking of her whereabouts and why she disappeared all of a sudden?

If Caroline doesn't care about his feelings...

Then there is no reason to chase her. She doesn't want to be found so be it!

He won't waste his time and resources in finding someone who leaves on their own accord!

Damn stupid wife!

He picked Caroline's pillow and throws it at the wall...it falls into the floor without even making a sound.

So much of thinking that he already finds the woman who can complete him and make him happy.

He chose the wrong woman to marry!

He looked around the room, it's useless staying inside this room that only reminds him of her.

He rose from the bed, picked up his car keys, shoved the letters inside the drawer of the bedside table, and left the bedroom.

He went to the living room, sat there for a while, stared at the orange-yellow sunset displayed on the horizon.

Sad to say the sunset no longer looks beautiful, it looks so ugly right now!

Heck, why did he even watch it in the first place!?

Dammit, his heart wants to explode in anger right now!

He was furious with his wife for leaving him like this!

It makes him f.u.c.k.i.n.g crazy!

He thinks he's going to lose his mind any minute.

He'd better leave before he will start trashing his place.

Mike left his abode sporting a somber expression on his face.

Outside the building, he hired a taxi cab, he dared not drive his car with his current state of mind afraid that he will meet on accident on the highway if he drives with a chaotic emotion.

He instructed the driver to bring him to his mother's address. He will stay there until Caroline will come back.

At least...there he won't be remembering so much of Caroline's memories.

While he was on board the moving vehicle. A question was formed in his mind. Did Caroline love him at all?

Did she just marry him for what reason?

She married him and then leave him!?

What kind of reasoning is that?

If she intends to leave him after the honeymoon then she should have not married him at all!

He can't understand why she was doing this to him!

Mike's heart was consumed with anger and it's devouring him inside.

Thirty minutes later, he finally arrived at his mother's house.

Susan was sitting in the living room when Mike comes in.

"Son, I'm glad that you're finally here," she said with a smile.

"I'll be staying here until my wife comes back, Mom," Mike stated in a painful voice. "I'm going to my room," he said.

"Okay, can you give me the key to your place, son? I'm sure you left in a hurry. I just want to tidy up that place because it won't be occupied for a long time. Does the fridge was on when you left? And did you turn off the air conditioner?" asked Susan.

Mike nodded his head. "Yeah, sorry I wasn't thinking of those things when I come here," he said sighing. He went to his mother's side and gives her the key.

"It's okay, son, you may go up to your bed now and rest so that you can cool your head," Susan said and left the living room.

She called one of the housemaid to go with her to Mike's place so that they can sort out the place.

A moment later, Susan and the housemaid already boarded the car going to Mike's place.

While back inside the mansion.

Mike was lying on his bed, eyes wide open.

Then he stared at his wedding ring on his finger for a long time.

A tear fell from his eyes, even if he was furious with his wife for leaving him, he still misses her so much.

He misses her smile, her laughter, her scent, her voice, her kisses, and her hugs.

With a heavy sigh...he rose from the bed..walked to the table and took off the wedding ring from his finger and dropped the ring on the drawer.

He will wear that ring again if his wife will finally come back to his side.

He doesn't want to keep wearing that ring and be reminded every day of what a fool he'd been marrying a woman who abandons him after their honeymoon.

Goodness!

His mind is in chaos right now...

Half of him hated his wife...while the other half was still loving her.

It's a very troubling condition...

He was confused about how to go on with his life?

And what about the resort that he and his wife were trying to build? What's going to happen with it? Should he continue with it?

And what if one day she will come back and already had a new lover and ask for annulment?

Nah, he won't continue developing the resort, unless Caroline will come back and sort out all this mess!

He will wait for Caroline's first call to her sister Catherine, maybe he can get a clue on how to proceed with his life. As of now...his wife was putting him in a comatose state like situation...alive yet dead inside.

Mike sighed heavily.

This is the price he has to pay for loving her and for trusting her completely.

He just hopes that when she comes back to his side her reasons for abandoning him are logical...or else...they will never be able to come back to where they used to be.

Mike tilted his head and his eyes come in level with his phone. He grabbed it and made a call to his wife's number.

But his efforts were wasted again...Caroline's number is no longer available.

He was hoping that she will call him right now, apologizes to him, and say that it was all a prank on her side and they will be okay again.

But a tiny voice inside his head tells him that this nightmare is real!

His chest was heaving, he's going to cry...

Mike buried his face into the pillow, no longer wanting to stop the tears from falling.

He will cry right now, because tomorrow, he has to start facing the days without his wife by his side.

He has to keep living because he has businesses that needed his attention. As for his runaway wife?

He can only shake his head in frustration.

Caroline's abrupt leaving...he didn't see it coming...he was not prepared for it emotionally, physically, and mentally.

He released a deep sigh.

The night is getting sadder every minute that passes by.

His heart was getting colder and bleeding nonstop.
