Chapter 186 - Reason Why?

Catherine sighed deeply.

She never expected that this kind of problem will come along in their lives now that they are already happy and satisfied with their current condition.

She was blind to what happened to her twin. They just recently patched up their differences and they haven't talked much about everything especially when it comes to personal problems.

She thought that her sister is already happy and satisfied with her life after marrying a wealthy and rich husband.

She didn't expect this!

"Mother, I will show the letters to John and Mike. I don't like holding any information regarding my twin. I'm afraid that it will create a misunderstanding between me and my husband in the future. I don't like keeping secrets from him. As much as I wanted to cooperate with Caroline but I pity Mike the more," she finally told her mother her decision.

Thelma breathed deeply. She initially wanted to hide the letters from Mike and John, but Catherine is right, the men need to know about the letters. It is unfair on their part if she and her daughter will hide the truth about the letters.

She doesn't want to betray her daughter Caroline but this time she has to do the right thing.

"Alright, daughter. You may call John and Mike now and inform them about the letters. I hope it can help them find your sister fast!"

"Thank you, Mother!" Catherine said and immediately placed a call to her husband.

"Wifey..."

"Hubby, where are you?"

"I dropped by at mother Susan's house. We are on our way to Blue Bell Residences to console my brother," he answered.

"Hubby, my sister Caroline left two letters for us. I want you to read them," Catherine said.

"Oh, Caroline left a letter for you and your mother? Give the letters to George then and instruct him to send it to Blue Bell Residences, we will be arriving there shortly," he ordered.

"Alright," Catherine said and ended the conversation with her husband.

She placed a call to George to come upstairs.

A moment later, George entered the living room.

Catherine placed the envelopes in George's hand.

"Bring these letters to the Blue Bell Residences, John is waiting there right now," she gives her instruction.

"Yes, Ma'am!" George replied and accepted the brown envelopes. He sauntered towards the door and disappeared behind it.

Catherine and Thelma looked at each other.

"What do you think is the problem with your sister?" Thelma asked.

Catherine released a deep sigh. "I don't know mother. It's not about money problems since we both know that she married a wealthy husband. What kind of problem she could be facing right now? And why she had to go away and sort things out on her own?"

Catherine threw her hands in the air in frustration. "That's what I'm thinking! How big is her problem that she has to go away instead of telling us about it so that we can help her find a perfect solution. I can't understand why she's doing all this? What will her husband think after she abandoned him? Mike doesn't deserve this kind of treatment from Caroline! I'm pissed with my sister right now!" she gritted her teeth in anger.

Thelma can only sigh. "Just when everything is okay, Caroline has to pull a stunt that took everyone by surprise!" she grumbled.

Catherine looked at her mother. She remembered that she has a heart problem and it's not good for her mother to feel extreme worries and sadness. She might suffer a heart attack at any given moment.

"Mother, please calm down! Please don't worry too much. Caroline mentioned in her letter that she will call me once a month. I will try to ask her what is her problem so that we can help her," she said hoping that her mother won't be affected by Caroline's sudden disappearance.

Catherine continues reminding her mother.

"Mother, if you want to see Caroline again, you must take care of your health. She told us in her letter that she will return one day and will never leave again. You have to take care of yourself, Mother. Don't let this problem affect your health. I'm worried about Caroline and I'm also worried about you," she added.

Thelma sighed heavily and nods her head. "OK, I won't let these things affect my health. I'll try my best, daughter," she said wanting to take away the extra worry that her daughter was carrying as of this moment.

Now that Caroline was gone missing, she will try to take care of her health so that she won't be adding to the existing problem to Catherine. She doesn't want her to carry another heavy burden, because Caroline's disappearance is already affecting everyone.

She thinks she needs to go home now so that her daughter can focus her attention on her children.

"Daughter, I'm going home now. You take care of yourself and my grandchildren," she said and rose to her feet.

"Mother wait...does Lily and Jacob already know about Caroline's disappearance?" asked Catherine.

Thelma shook her head. "Not yet. But I'm planning to tell them after I come home," she answered.

"Don't tell them yet, Mother. Let's wait or three days, maybe Caroline will have a change of heart and suddenly return to her husband. If after three days is over and still no sight of Caroline returning then that's the time to tell them the truth. I wanna be there in front of them when you tell them about my twin's disappearance," Catherine said.

"Alright, I'm going home now. Call me right away if there's an update about your sister," Thelma said sadly.

Catherine and her mother went down to the ground floor.

They hired a taxi so that Thelma can go back to Eastview Subdivision.

After no longer seeing the rear of the taxi, Catherine went back upstairs to take care of her children.

John and Susan finally arrived at the Blue Bell Residences. They went straight to the elevator area and boarded a vacant one.

A few minutes later, they finally arrived at Mike's flat.

They saw Mike sitting on the sofa, his shoulders slumped, holding a piece of paper, staring at the view of the city's skyline sporting a vacant look in his eyes.

John sat beside his brother while Susan sat on the opposite sofa facing her son, blocking his view.

"Bro...are you okay?" asked John.

Mike blinked his eyes twice and took a deep breath. "I'm not okay right now. My wife just freaking abandon me! I don't understand why? I can't accept this!" he said angrily.

Susan took the piece of paper from her son's grasp and began reading the letter.

A line appeared between her brows while reading the letter.

After reading the short letter three times, Susan gave the letter to John.

John reads the letter as well, his brows knitted together trying to enter Caroline's brain while she was writing the letter. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the power to do that.

He shrugged his shoulder. "This letter doesn't tell us anything. Caroline didn't give the exact reason why she abandons you, brother," he said.

Susan looked at her son's dejected look. "Did you and your wife quarrel before she disappeared?"

Mike shook his head. "No. We never argue on anything, we didn't quarrel even once. We agree on everything, that is why it's so hard for me to accept that she leave me without telling me the reason why she has to leave me! What's wrong with me!?" His nostrils flaring.

Susan stared at her hands. She was thinking what are the usual reason why women suddenly leave their husbands? She comes up with different reasons in her mind. It's not about the money, because her son Mike has his own money and besides that, Mike will be the one to manage their businesses when she finally retires from her position.

It's not about jealousy either, because she knows that her son loves his wife so much. Hmm, what could be the problem...unless Caroline is the problem itself.

Susan rubbed her forehead slowly troubled by this problem that her son is facing right now. She was grateful that her son met Caroline because she thought that woman can make her son happy, unfortunately, Caroline is the one giving them problem right now.

John rubbed his brothers back. "Bro...I think your wife is facing some problems internally. Unfortunately, she's not willing to share it with you. I arrived at that conclusion based on her letter. She was telling you in the letter that you are not the problem, she is the problem. She also mentioned that she will return to your side one day after she will sort things out for herself."

Mike's mouth was set in a hard line. Nothing makes sense to him at all!

"I'll go to the police station to report a missing person!" he blurted out and rose to his feet.

John pulled his brother back to the sofa. "Bro, think carefully before going to the police station. Your wife left a letter telling you that she will go away for a while and she will come back again. She's not missing! She left intentionally. You can't report a missing person like that. Caroline knows what she's doing and where she's going," he concluded.

A muscle on Mike's jaw twitched.

"So...what I'm gonna do now? Just stay here and wait for my wife's return? And until when? How can I be sure that she will come back?!" Mike snapped at no one in particular.

Susan sighed.

"Calm down, son. I know you're hurting and worried of your wife, but let's just wait for several days, maybe Caroline will come back to you after realizing that she can't solve her problem alone," Susan suggested calmly.

John breathed deeply. "The best thing so far is that we know she's not a victim of kidnapping. She left on her own and no one is forcing her to leave," he added.

Mike looked at his brother with a piercing gaze.

"Brother, how can you be so sure that no one is forcing her to leave me? What if she has another guy beside me?" Mike suggested out of the blue.

John and Susan looked at each other. That idea didn't come to their mind.

And Mike was even more surprised that he bought out the topic himself. Caroline emphasized in her letter that there is no third party involved but he can't stop himself getting suspicious of the real reason why she left him. They have a perfect marriage, no reason to leave, that's what he thought.
