Chapter 182 - No Turning Back

Caroline wakes up from the bad dream, gasping for breath.

She calms herself for a few seconds. Why on earth she was dreaming of Alex? She's not even thinking of that guy. Why she can dream of other people that are not part of her life?

She rises from the bed, exited the room, and went to the kitchen to drink a glass of water.

She stayed in the kitchen for a few minutes while holding the glass, drinking the water in a relaxed manner.

She went back to the bed and checked the time on the wall clock, it's already 3:00 in the morning. It's not yet time to wake up. She closed her eyes ready to sleep again.

She falls back into slumber at 4:00 in the morning.

A few hours later.

Caroline woke up at 9:00 in the morning. She was greeted with silence in the bedroom, reaching for the husband that was not there, then she remembered that she was sleeping alone in the bed.

She rises from the bed, went to the bathroom, and perform her morning routine.

Done in the bathroom, she left the room and went to the kitchen to fix her breakfast. She settled with the sliced bread with cheese. She loves eating melted cheese in between the sliced bread. After slicing the cheese, she placed four slices of cheese in the bread and put them in the sandwich maker.

While waiting for her sandwich to be heated, she made her cafe latte.

A moment later, Caroline was already eating her cheese sandwich with hot coffee.

She checked her phone for messages, her husband sent her a good morning message telling her to eat plenty of breakfast and enjoy her day, he will call her later during lunch.

After eating breakfast, Caroline tied her hair in a ponytail wanting to clean the whole place.

She started in the master's bedroom, doing dusting, vacuuming, and arranging things. Done in the master's bedroom, next she went to the other room that was not occupied, she finishes cleaning it in just fifteen minutes.

Done in the two rooms, she sets her eyes on the pool area. She went there and clean the entire room. Currently, the pool was drained, no water, so it's easier to clean it from top to bottom.

She focused her energy on cleaning the entire place.

She only stops when the clock strikes at 12:30, time to prepare her lunch. She went to the kitchen and perused the cupboard for canned foods to cook. She picked up the corned beef and brought it to the table. Then she opens the fridge, took a bell pepper. She picked up five pieces of potato, as well as onions, garlic, and began preparing the ingredients for the dish. She also cooked rice in the rice cooker.

Her phone rings...she answered the call right away.

"Hubby..."

"Sweetie, what are you doing?"

"Preparing my lunch...how about you?"

"I'm eating lunch right now, room service in my hotel room. I'll be meeting the constructor for the resort this afternoon. We will be discussing many things about the resort," Mike said.

"Okay..."

"After I'm done with my meeting here, I'll go back to Manila tomorrow afternoon," he added.

"That's good hubby! I can't wait to see you again," Caroline said in a thrilled voice.

"Alright, I will continue eating my lunch. I'll call you later, wifey, take care. I love you! Bye," he said.

"Bye-bye hubby," replied Caroline, and put back the phone in the table.

One hour later, she was done cooking and eating her lunch with gusto. Cleaning the place made her hungry.

After eating her lunch and washing the dishes, she starts cleaning the living room and the kitchen and all the bathrooms.

She was done cleaning the whole place at 5:00 pm.

She went to the kitchen to find something to eat 'coz she's getting hungry again. She put a slice bread on the plate, spread a hefty amount of strawberry jam on it, and began eating.

Done eating the bread, she makes a cool lemonade juice on the pitcher, put in on the tray along with the glass and brought it to the living room.

She will rest for a while.

She turns on the TV and browses some shows worth watching. She settled watching a cooking show while drinking her juice.

After a while, she paused the show and glanced at the amazing view of the skyline outside the building.

Tomorrow afternoon her husband will return.

She must leave this place before he comes back.

She will pack her things and put them all in one bag.

She was thinking about what to write in the letter she was going to leave for her husband.

Caroline turn off the TV and went to the bedroom. She took a paper and pen and began composing a letter for her husband in the bed.

She made the first letter...then read it afterward...she's not satisfied...she crumpled the paper and throws it on the trash can.

She wrote the second later and feel the same, why can't she write the damn thing!

Aargh!

She feels frustrated.

She started writing again, the third time, but after writing and pouring her heart on it, she's still not satisfied. The crumpled letter ended up in the trash can.

Caroline relaxes for a while. She had a hard time putting the right words into the paper. She was agonizing what will her husband feel after reading her later.

She goes back to writing the fourth later...

After writing for a few minutes nonstop...she stopped and read her letter.

Damn!

She's not satisfied and pleased with her writing, so it ended again in the trash can.

Her frustration was mounting every second that passes by. She can't disappear without leaving a letter that would lighten up her husband's mood and burden.

Caroline had enough!

She went inside the bathroom and filled the bathtub with water, then she filled it with the liquid soap creating a gorgeous foam. She strips off her clothes and lowered herself into the bathtub.

She stayed in the bathtub for fifteen minutes trying to condition herself so that she can write the perfect farewell letter to her husband.

A few moments later, she had enough of her bath and drained the bathtub.

She took a bath under the shower and then left the bathroom to continue writing her perfect letter.

By 7:00 in the evening, she finished writing the letter and after reading it, she no longer throws it on the trash can.

Her fifth letter was simplified as if she was just writing instruction to her husband.

She put the letter in the brown envelope and placed it on the bedside table beside the lampshade.

She released a deep sigh of relief.

Done with the letter, she took the traveling bag from the closet, open the zipper, and put it on the floor. She went back to the closet and put her clothes in the bed and folded them neatly one by one into the bag, she wanted to put all her things in one bag only.

She will bring along her tablet, her phone, some money, and what else? She will secure everything tonight before sleeping so that she won't miss anything.

She went to the kitchen and prepared her dinner. She just thawed the remaining fish and just fry it later. There's still some rice left in the rice cooker, she no longer needs to cook a new one.

She sat on the chair facing the table.

Her phone rings once, telling her of an incoming message.

She reads the text message, it comes from her husband telling her to eat plenty of lunch and he will call her later before he goes to bed.

She replied with a text message of her own telling him the same thing.

She went back to work, she applied a generous amount of seasoning and salt to the fish and then heated the cooking oil for frying.

The oil was finally heated and she began frying the fish.

One hour later, Caroline was done frying the fish, she began eating.

She was starting to feel sad and lonely.

But she needs to keep moving!

After eating and cleaning the dirty dishes, she went to the living room and stared at the panoramic view of the skyline.

She breathed deeply.

It will be her last day here today.

The future looks terrifying for her.

But she already had chosen the path that she's going to take, there's no turning back. Even if she will tell her husband about the truth, he will send her to the police station to confess on the killing and there will be a trial... and it will be emotionally and psychologically damaging to everyone involved.

The worst thing could happen, her husband might see her in a different light and annul their marriage. She remembered so well when he told her that he doesn't want a murderer's wife and a murderer mother to his children.

His statement scared the hell out of her. She doesn't want to lose her husband, she loves him very much!

She was in that state of mind... when her phone starts ringing. She checked the caller it's her husband.

"Hubby..."

"Sweetie...are you going to sleep now?" he asked.

"Not yet, it's too early, maybe after one hour. How's the meeting with the contractor?" she inquired.

"We have ironed things out already and I will bring the contract with me next week so that the construction will begin as early as possible, probably the first week of the following month," he explained.

"Ah, okay, that's good!"

"I already bought a ticket back home and I'll be back tomorrow at our place, I'll be there at 1 or 2 in the afternoon, no need to fetch me on the airport, wifey," he said.

"Okay, as you say so," she replied.

"I love you, sweetie, I'm going to sleep now. Sleep early, okay? I miss you!" he said.

"I miss you too, hubby. I love you so much. See you tomorrow..."

"By sweetie...sweet dreams!"

"Bye hubby...good night..."

Their conversation ended.

Caroline stood up, turn off the light in the living groom, and also the light in the kitchen then she sauntered towards the bedroom.

She roamed her eyes inside the bedroom...there's nothing left for her to do anymore.

Everything is set. She looked at the brown envelope. She was just hoping that her husband will accept her back when she returns to his side without making any fuss.

She breathed deeply, time to go to sleep.

She knows that she won't be able to sleep tonight, so she dropped a sleeping pill on her mouth and drink the bottle of mineral water.

She's ready to sleep.

She lies down in the bed and wrapped the blanket around her body and shuts off her eyes.

A few minutes later, she was already sleeping soundly.
