Maisui took it and gave it to Lin Lan, letting her have the first bite. Lin Lan then nodded, “How sweet!”

The persimmons have been fermented and formed an orange-red hue to them. The juices inside could be tasted directly after biting through the skin. It was sweet and not astringent, which made it very delicious.

Erwang and Xiaowang ate one together. Both brothers were gentle as they wiped the corners of their mouths with handkerchiefs while eating.

Dawang looked at Sanwang eating the fruit to the point where his entire face was painted orange-yellow and showed a disgusted look, “I’m not eating.”

Sanwang saw the reflection of his face in the water tank and shouted, “This is bad!”

Everyone was startled by him and asked what was wrong.

Sanwang pointed to himself, “Look, my adorable pouty face is ruined!”

The whole room fell silent as everyone glared at him.

Maisui felt that the persimmons were not so sweet anymore, “Sanwang!” She put down the persimmons and hit him.

Sanwang jumped out, “You can’t hit me~~”

Lin Lan and the others also booed, “Hit  him hard and hit him twice more for my sake; that’ll teach him to talk less nonsense!”

The children made a fuss as Lin Lan cut the pork belly into cubes. When they planned to eat it, all they had to do was take it out and start dressing it from there.

The ribs were divided into two pieces and two pieces of pork belly were wrapped in corn husks. A small gourd scoop was used to take some mushrooms before placing them all into a basket.

“Dawang, take it to your maternal grandma’s house.”

Since Lin Lan reconciled with her Third Sister, she returned to her mother’s house and things became normal once more. As they no longer competed with each other and fought all the time, Old Lady Lin also let out a sigh of relief.

After the slack season, the family moved around more diligently.

Old Lady Lin would often send Lin Lan’s nephew to give something to his aunt whereas Lin Lan would also send Dawang to deliver items in return. By doing so, the children could move around more and get closer to the family.

Because the original owner favoured her nephew and treated her own son badly, Dawang initially had a lot of complaints. Later, Lin Lan started to change. And when they were building the new house, Dawang’s eldest uncle and maternal grandfather helped them quite a lot. Plus, they even sent food to the family. With that, Dawang’s opinions gradually changed.

So when Lin Lan asked him to send food over again, he didn’t refuse. Naturally, he never refused when his grandma asked him to bring something back as well.

Dawang picked up the basket and left, but Sanwang shouted, “Eldest Brother, I’ll go with you.”

Dawang looked at his brother’s mess of a face…and coldly refused, “No need.”

After Dawang left, Sanwang sighed there, “It’s over, I lost my Eldest Brother’s trust in me.”

Lin Lan patted his head, “Silly boy, your Eldest Brother is afraid that you’d be cold.”

Xiaowang, “What is trust?”

Erwang, “It’s our Eldest Brother who brought your Third Brother along to do some bad stuff, but in the end, your Third Brother betrayed him. This is trust and betrayal.”

Xiaowang nodded, “I see— The hen lays eggs for us to eat, and yet, we kill it to eat its meat. This is trust and betrayal.”

Everyone, “…” How could that be the same? Damn, what if they didn’t dare to eat chicken because of this anymore? What he just said was a lot more cruel than Sanwang’s actions.
