There used to be two different protection formations around the City Lord Manor in the Changfeng City.

One of them was used to protect the manor, and the other was used to protect the spirit cave below.

After Gao Yun entered the City Lord Manor, he quickly made amendments to the protection formations. He laid down a third layer between the two.

The third layer would activate if any one of the other two formations were destroyed. It was an added security measure in case any one of the protection formations were affected, but it also brought with it a massive disadvantage. As long as the third layer of formation was broken, everything would come crumbling down.

Due to his confidence in his abilities, Gao Yun didn’t panic even though he learned that the spirit cave was being attacked.

In actuality, he was right. After the third layer of formation was activated after Shang Xia destroyed the protection formation around the spirit cave, Gao Yun was more than capable of suppressing Shang Xia in the spirit cave with the aid of the world origin pouring in through the bridge.

Unfortunately, man proposes and god disposes. No one would have thought that the amount of world origin would decrease by half due to Ancestor Yun Lu’s desire to obtain the Hidden Frost Sword.

Half the energy used to maintain the suppression on Shang Xia disappeared suddenly, allowing him to move again. Under the pressure of survival, Shang Xia comprehended his eighth move, Startling Moon. He shattered the protection formation that remained.

Shang Xia breaking his formation was something that exceeded Gao Yun’s expectations. However, he was more worried about the sudden decrease of world origin coming from the bridge. Without a doubt, something happened to Ancestor Yun Lu.

Youshang might be a second layer Martial Extermination Realm expert, but his mastery over the spear allowed him to barely be at a disadvantage when fighting the third layer Martial Extermination Realm expert, Gao Yun.

Along with the sudden change and Shang Xia breaking the protection formation, Youshang took advantage of Gao Yun’s distraction to quickly turn the battle around.

It was especially so when the protection formation was broken. Youshang no longer had to worry about Shang Xia and he could go all out. His offensive increased in intensity yet again and he became the one suppressing Gao Yun.

After Shang Xia emerged from one of the wells, he noticed that Youshang was actually starting to gain the upper hand.

He also quickly discovered that the protection formation was starting to reform itself. More energy fell from the bridge above the city into those holes.

Stabbing straight at the foundations of the well he crawled out of, Shang Xia destroyed it and sealed the opening off completely.

The stream of energy that was supposed to enter the well scattered all over the ground, turning the region into somewhat of a fantasy painting.

A stroke of inspiration came over Shang Xia and he brought out the Spirit Extermination Gourd and tried to absorb the world origin that scattered all around.

Even though he planned to experiment with it, he was shocked when the world origin was sucked into the gourd.

Is it possible that the gourd can not only absorb extermination qi but world origin too?

Well, good things never last. Gao Yun quickly discovered his actions.

Despite being tangled up with Youshang, Gao Yun was still able to split away some of his consciousness to control the protection formation.

The world origin that was spilled over from Shang Xia’s destruction of the well was quickly directed to another well in the distance.

Watching the scene play out in front of him, Shang Xia quickly emerged from the courtyard he was in to enter another one housing a well.

Raising his spear, he destroyed the next well before using his Spirit Extermination Gourd to absorb the spillover world origin.

“Be careful!” Youshang roared in the distance.

With a chill running down his heart, Shang Xia leaped out of the courtyard he was in before lunging to another nearby structure.

A huge blast came from behind him and the courtyard he was in earlier turned into a pile of rubble.

If he reacted a little slower, he might have been turned into a pancake, just like the courtyard. After all, taking an attack from a Martial Extermination Realm expert, especially one as strong as Gao Yun, wasn’t fun.

Raising his head, Shang Xia saw Youshang fighting to stop Gao Yun from sending any more attacks down below.

With a trace of rage building in Shang Xia’s heart, he was too annoyed with Gao Yun to be afraid of him. Getting up, he swung his spear upwards. He unleashed his fifth move, the Woundless Spear!

In the past, Shang Xia used the same move to attack Liang Shuangren. He wanted to do it again. Since Liang Shuangren and Gao Yun had similar cultivation bases, he felt that he could possibly do something to Gao Yun! Moreover, Shang Xia’s personal cultivation increased since then. The power contained in his strike was far greater than before.

It didn’t take long for him to send out the strike. Blood stained the back of his robes.

Without any prior warning, an injury two inches long appeared on Gao Yun’s neck. Blood sprayed out from his new wound.

Even though a wound like that wouldn’t affect a Martial Extermination Realm expert, the premise of which the attack arrived scared him. There was no sign of it at all!

He might have locked on to the source of the attack that was Shang Xia dozens of feet away, but he still felt a sense of unease in his heart.

That was because he discovered that even though he knew where the strike came from, he had no idea how to defend against it!

Alas, he failed to notice Shang Xia’s blood-soaked back. Otherwise, he would understand that Shang Xia wouldn’t be able to send out another attack in a short period of time.

As for the person in question, Shang Xia, he ignored the pain as a trace of excitement threatened to overwhelm him.

The injury he received when sending out the strike earlier was much lighter than before! Also, the injury he inflicted on Gao Yun was a lot more serious than Liang Shuangren.

Even though both injuries meant nothing to a Martial Extermination Realm expert, the increase in damage he caused held a greater meaning behind it!

At the very least, Gao Yun had to split off a large amount of attention to prevent Shang Xia from landing his attack again. Youshang was able to capitalize on the opportunity to heavily punish the distracted Gao Yun.

The muscles around his newly opened wound squirmed to seal it off as Shang Xia started to look for other wells in the manor.

This time, he was clearly much more crafty. He found one in a courtyard away from where the two of them were fighting and he destroyed it quickly. Once again, he retrieved his Spirit Extermination Gourd to collect the spillover world origin.

Raising his head suddenly, he stared at one of the rooms beside him. “Who’s there?!”

No sound came from within, but Shang Xia didn’t lower his spear. He pointed it at the courtyard and got ready to deal with any threat that might come.

A moment later, a figure of a woman appeared at a window facing Shang Xia and her voice rang through the air, “Did you just use the Shang Clan Spear Art?”

Narrowing his eyes, Shang Xia growled, “Who are you and how do you recognize the Shang Clan Spear Art?”

Hesitating slightly, the woman within muttered, “Can you let me out? I’ve been trapped in here for too long and there are restrictions all over the place.”

A thought flashed through Shang Xia’s mind and he decided to test the woman a little. “Do you know who Uncle Cen is?”

“Looks like you should know who I am. Who sent you?” The woman sighed in a weird tone after some time.

Shang Xia ignored whatever she said and asked yet another question. “What’s the name of your granddaughter?”

The woman in the room seemed visibly taken aback and she hesitated for a short while before muttering, “Did Hai Min bring Yuanyuan to the Tongyou City?”

Shang Xia didn’t bother thinking deeper into her words and he nodded his head. “Looks like you’re the third in command of the Eighteen Horsemen…”

As soon as he spoke, his spear tore through the restrictions and broke the roof of the building she was trapped in.

A figure jumped out before landing in front of Shang Xia.

It was the first time he was seeing her, and according to his estimations, she should have been in her forties. However, the person who stood before him was a beauty who looked slightly over thirty. She exuded a charming air, and perhaps it was because she had been trapped in the room for a long time, she looked extremely pale and tired.

Shang Xia didn’t know that when he was examining her, she was doing the same to him. She barely glanced at the battle between the two Martial Extermination Realm experts. Her gaze had been locked on to him the rest of the time.

When Shang Xia was about to speak, Third Sister Hai broke the silence first. “What’s wrong? Do you find me familiar?”

“Maybe it’s because you look too similar to Hai Min and Yuanyuan…” Shang Xia chuckled awkwardly.

Sniggering softly, she raised her chin a little and asked, “What’s going on here?”

“The White Deer Paradise declared war on us and the battle is still going on.” Shang Xia raised his head to look in the direction she was indicating before explaining.

She stared at him in shock but quickly managed to regain her composure. She muttered seriously, “What can I do to help? Are the two up there on our side? Um…”

Shang Xia thought that she had already discovered Youshang’s identity as someone from the Azure Spiritual World and he quickly explained, “That guy up there wielding the spear is a spy the institution stationed in the Azure Spiritual World. We only managed to infiltrate the city with his help. Senior, you barely recovered your energy. If you wish to do anything, you should help Uncle Cen and the rest. They’re somewhere in the city right now.”

Tearing her eyes off the battle, she gave Shang Xia a deep stare before smiling slightly. “Alright, I'll be off then!”

It seemed as though she wasn’t someone who liked to drag things out. She unleashed her movement art and left the City Lord Manor instantly.
