Not A Murderer (2)

The little child’s unconditional trust and dependence softened Ruan Qingmu’s heart. He bent down with a smile and handed him the chocolates first, then pointed to the kiosk outside and gestured.

The little mute immediately understood and ran to the door with a few steps, bowing to Old Li, then turned around and ran back.

“Eh, Xiao-Zhuang is so sensible now?” Ruan Qingmu was slightly shocked.

Every week he came back, this little guy looked a little better. His previously yellow face was much whiter and clearer, showing a bit of the redness a child of his age should have. The brick wound on the back of his head had also healed and the bald patch of hair had grown back.

Mu Wanli came out of a massage room and joyfully said, “Of course. A special school is different. On the first day we sent Xiao-Zhuang to school, the teacher talked with us for a long time. They said they have taught numerous children with special needs and had experience, telling us not to be worried. Sure enough. Xiao-Zhuang has learned many things in these two to three months!”

Ruan Qingmu smiled and stroked the little mute’s head. “Our Xiao-Zhuang isn’t stupid. As long as someone teaches him, he will surely learn fast.”

In his previous life, that little guard was obviously just a peasant’s child, but he had made rapid progress in learning martial arts after being brought in by him.

He opened the large snack bag again and handed it to Xiao-Zhuang, gesturing to him Qin Yuan’s height and making the gesture of eating grapes again. Xiao-Zhuang obviously understood again, tilting his head to look at him, and suddenly craning his neck to look out.

The seemingly ice-cold big brother?

Ruan Qingmu smiled and rubbed his head a little. But when he looked at Xiao-Zhuang’s body, he was suddenly slightly suspicious.

The little guy’s body had an extremely refined little bright yellow jacket with a pair of impressive jeans. As long as one was not blind, one could see that these clothes were extremely well-made, and even the accessories were heavy.

“Mom, Xiao-Zhuang’s clothes aren’t cheap, right?” He asked, “Did Yun-jie make much money recently?”

Mu Wanli smilingly said, “I forgot to tell you about a big happy occasion. That charity fund last time did not only help Xiao-Zhuang to pay the school fee but also provided special aid money, saying that it was assigned to be used on the child’s basic needs – a fixed sum of five thousand dollars a month, which is said to be covered until the child finishes high school.”

Ruan Qingmu was shocked. “What? Why is this charity so generous?”

This was higher than an ordinary person’s wages. There couldn’t be some sort of scam, right?

Mu Wanli also felt slightly at a loss. “I also feel like it’s a dream, but we’re old, weak, and disabled. Why would they want to covet anything from us?”

Ruan Qingmu looked confusedly at the little mute with red lips and white teeth*, muttering to himself. “This little guy, a meat pie falling from the sky could’ve also hit you?”

*T/N: Red lips and white teeth: describing a person’s handsome appearance.

As the mother and son talked, a clamor sounded from the door. Chief Wang from the subdistrict office lifted the curtain and entered.

“Li-jie, you’re here, ah. I didn’t make a vain trip then.” He took out a document from a briefcase.

“I’ve arranged the thing I mentioned to you last time. You can sign in here. From January this year, someone will help pay the five social and one funding insurance* for the three people in your shop.”

*T/N: According to the Social Insurance Law and the Regulations on Housing Provident Fund Management, enterprises must fully pay the “five social insurance and one funding insurance” for their employees, namely pension insurance, medical insurance, unemployment insurance, work injury insurance, maternity insurance, and housing provident fund.

Mu Wanli shockingly ran out from behind the counter. “Aiya. Is this really not some sort of joke?”

Ruan Qingmu peeked out his head. “What is this?”

Chief Wang enviously said, “Good things are coming for your family! That charity also has a program to help employees of an enterprise in a difficult situation pay their five social and one funding insurances. By coincidence, your small shop happens to meet all the requirements!”

Ruan Qingmu felt weirder the more he heard. “What special requirements did our family’s shop meet?”

“First, more than half of the employees must be disabled. Your family’s proportion has exceeded 67%! Secondly, it has to be a small profit-making business. If the yearly turnover is bigger, then it won’t do. Lastly, a single-parent family is preferred. Didn’t your family meet all the above conditions?”

Mu Wanli thanked him repeatedly. “Chief Wang, thank you! We’ve troubled you a lot!”

The three people in the shop had to pay nearly 7,000 to 8,000 yuan for their monthly five social and one funding insurance, which usually made a heavy amount of money. Now they suddenly had a charity to pay on their behalf, simply a blessing from heaven.

Chief Wang waved his hand. “Li-jie, you have a good heart. That’s why you have all this luck.”

Mu Wanli hesitated. “Chief Wang, did that charity really not leave a name?”

Chief Wang laughed. “They truly want to do good deeds. Don’t bother asking about it anymore. Anyway, they’ll never regret it later and ask you to return it!”

Mu Wanli widened her eyes. “We’ve bought Xiao-Zhuang clothes and shoes. Where would there be a basis to return it! If they want money, there’s none, but they can have our lives if they want it!”

Mu Wanli happily signed the document and sent Chief Wang out of the door before turning around and pulling Ruan Qingmu to the room. “Come, come. I’ll show you something good!”

After entering the room, several pieces of clothes were spread out on the table and all of them were brand new winter clothes, including a long black and orange-trimmed down jacket, a short leather jacket, and a fine cashmere sweater that looked soft.

“With someone paying the five social and one funding insurance, our shop can make 7000 to 8000 yuan a month.” Mu Wanli picked up a light blue cashmere sweater and measured it on his body. “Quick, try this on. The department store said as long as the tag is still on it, we could exchange it for a different size.”

Ruan Qingmu removed his outer coat and the slightly old wool jumper, changing into the new cashmere sweater. “Mom, the size is just right.”

The light blue cashmere sweater was a perfect fit, with a high collar accentuating the boy’s long, slender neck and handsome features.
