The discussion regarding the apartment went smoothly. The landlord was very cheerful. The rent was within his budget. The rooms were immaculate and without any problems. The bedroom had a large, bright window that faced the rising sun.

He felt as if the thick clouds that had been piling up above his head had finally started to disperse, and the sun pierced the clouds and the window’s glasses, and shone directly into his heart. He decided to take this as the beginning of a new life.

Adults didn’t have as much time to fuss about things. Life was a journey in which everyone was a traveler—and so was he. He just happened to part with a fellow traveler. That was all. It was not worth tearing his hair out.

After buying daily necessities from a nearby supermarket, he spent three hours thoroughly cleaning and organizing the house. When he was finished, he was hot and sweaty all over. Exhausted, he collapsed in a heap on his bed, but his heart felt relaxed.

His heart was still wounded, but one day it would heal; time only moved forward and could heal almost all wounds. Lin Wanghe’s rational and calm analysis had enlightened him greatly. He began to realize that Li Siyuan’s betrayal and departure were not fatal wounds. There were far more grave wounds in the world than that. Even a casual stroll through the hospital would reveal that. Life wasn’t always about romantic love.

He smiled at the ceiling, picked up his mobile phone, set an alarm, and then undressed to take a shower.

He was not used to the new bed, so he didn’t sleep well that night. He woke up several times after dawn, but each time he fell asleep again. This continued until his alarm went off at seven o’clock in the morning, which he turned off the first time it rang. He sat up and rubbed the space between his eyebrows, doubting whether he had even gotten a wink of sleep all night.

When he arrived at Lantes, several colleagues immediately expressed surprise at seeing him. Then they stood together and whispered. He had insulted Young Master Lin and stormed out of the office in rage. It was definitely a huge deal. Everyone had thought that he would definitely be fired. Nobody had expected him to come back to work. Song Yunshen was very uncomfortable with these stares, and his entire body was stiff as a board, but he had to restrain himself from showing it on his face.

“Good day, Young Master Lin.”

“Hello, Young Master Lin.”

The girl at the front desk behind him suddenly spoke out, giving Song Yunshen a big fright. When he turned around, he saw Lin Wanghe walking casually, sporting a tailored suit. The latter’s expression didn’t change when he saw him. Song Yunshen coughed and then called out a greeting, “Hello, Young Master Lin.”

Lin Wanghe responded with a nod. Then he entered the VIP elevator with his assistant. Song Yunshen squeezed into the employee elevator with other employees.

Today’s Lin Wanghe didn’t look the same as he did previously. He was dressed in a suit, and his hair was styled with hairspray, revealing a young and handsome face. He hadn’t been like this when he first appeared in the company. At that time, he had only been wearing a simple black short-sleeve t-shirt, and his hair had been completely unkempt. His bangs had been a little long, almost covering his eyes, making it difficult to see his facial expressions. Today, he looked more energetic and also a little like a young master. But he seemed to have a strong preference for the combination of black and dark green. Previously, when he was wearing a black t-shirt, he had a dark green jade hanging on his neck. Today, he was wearing a black suit and a dark green tie.

While he was thinking about this, the elevator had already arrived at the destination.

Lin Wanghe’s office was directly across the corridor from the Marketing Department. Anyone going to the marketing department would undoubtedly pass by his office. When Song Yunshen passed by, he glanced inside through the glass window. Lin Wanghe was frowning as he examined the document in front of him. Manager Wei was standing on the side. He lowered his head and said something to Lin Wanghe. Song Yunshen didn’t really want to run into Manager Wei, so he walked away quickly.

No one knew that Young Master Lin, who seemed to be working hard in his office, was currently lost in thought looking at pictures on the computer screen. In the picture, Song Yunshen was sleeping soundly with his eyes closed. His eyelashes were long, curly, and distinct.

His heart seemed to be on fire. He suddenly got up and went out with big steps.

Yesterday, he had asked Manager Wei to adjust Song Yunshen’s seat. His seat was no longer in the corner but rather near the glass. As long as you walked past the glass, you could see him. There were many people coming and going in the corridor, and Song Yunshen was too busy to notice who came and left. So when Lin Wanghe stood outside for a long time and stared at him, he didn’t find out. Instead, other employees noticed their boss’ figure right away. They immediately straightened up and worked hard. They didn’t dare to chat or eat snacks.

Song Yunshen was very charming when doing work. He looked charming when he was drinking coffee. He looked charming when he contacted customers. He also looked charming when he was tapping the keyboard. People always said that serious men were the most handsome. Lin Wanghe found it true. He conjured a picture frame in his mind. The light and angle were all looking good. All that was missing was a camera, which was sitting in his office. He held himself back hard to stop from taking a picture.

Exercising patience had always been tiring, and it was precisely because of this that his expression sank uncontrollably. Song Yunshen finished the task at hand and took a breath. As soon as he looked up, he saw Lin Wanghe’s depressed expression, and his heart palpitated immediately.

Lin Wanghe was caught off guard and was startled for a moment. His tightly furrowed brows immediately loosened. He nodded slightly at Song Yunshen, then turned and left.

Song Yunshen felt baffled. He immediately rechecked the table he had just made and found that there really weren’t any mistakes.

Maybe he was looking at someone else before, he thought.

One of his female colleagues had a dog and posted pictures of it in her Moments every day. Song Yunshen had always thought it was adorable. When he saw one of its pictures today, he suddenly decided to go to the pet shop after work.

It was not that he had never had a pet before. He and Li Siyuan had a cat when they were together. Li Siyuan liked cats very much, especially the round and fat British shorthairs. So the two had bought a kitten at a high price and spoiled it rotten. Although it made the house a mess and scratched the sofa, it did bring them happiness.

One time, the two had quarreled over something, and he had been angry. The cat had walked over and gently rubbed against Li Siyuan’s foot. Li Siyuan had taken a deep breath and exclaimed, “Oh my god, it rubbed against me!”

Despite being a completely off-topic statement, Song Yunshen had surprisingly been led away. He had given the cat a disapproving look and said, “Why don’t you rub against me? Aren’t I the one who makes money to buy canned food for you?” The cat had given him a proud look and farted.

Li Siyuan had burst out laughing, which had immediately broken the stalemate. Song Yunshen had wanted to be angry but had been unable to, and thus had pretended to be annoyed. “Li Siyuan, be serious! Why are you laughing when we’re in the middle of arguing?”

Li Siyuan had laughed until he was out of breath. “I’m sorry, I don’t want to laugh, but this is hilarious. Let me finish laughing before we resume our argument, okay?”

Song Yunshen had pursed his lips tightly but had still burst out laughing. Li Siyuan had looked up at him. When their eyes met, they burst out laughing together.

“We look like two idiots,” Li Siyuan had said.

“Only you are. I’m very smart,” Song Yunshen had retorted.

Then the matter had been considered over.

But the good times didn’t last long. The cat died of illness in just over two years. Li Siyuan had previously said that the cat was their own son, and they were a family of three. In the corridor of the pet hospital, Li Siyuan had wept for the loss of a family member. Song Yunshen had been equally sad, but he had still hugged him tightly and comforted, “It’s okay, let’s raise another one.” Li Siyuan had shaken his head and said, “It’s heartbreaking. I don’t want to have any more pets.”

Song Yunshen had also struggled to accept such a separation, and he had thought that he would never have a pet again in his life. He had never imagined that he would one day walk into a pet shop again.

Compared to cats, he actually preferred dogs, especially large dogs. He felt that they were particularly handsome. So, under the introduction of the clerk, he shelled out money to buy an Alaskan Malamute that he had fallen in love with at first sight.

“All single people need pets.” He walked out of the pet store with the cage containing the puppy and a pile of pet supplies, saying, “I’ll be your dad from now on. I’m poor, but I’ll work hard to earn money so that I can buy you nice food, toys, and clothes, and take you out to play. So, don’t worry about anything.”

The dog made no noise, but he himself laughed first. Whether it was a human or an animal, as long as they felt that they were needed, they would have the motivation to live on.

When he got to the roadside, he took out his mobile phone to call DiDi. Unexpectedly, he had randomly called a luxury car. Nowadays, it was not uncommon for rich kids to drive out when they had nothing better to do. He was surprised for a while but didn’t take it seriously, until three minutes later, when he did.

When he saw the car that he had rode in just yesterday, his scalp couldn’t help but tingle.

Lin Wanghe cast a casual glance out the window, paused, and removed his sunglasses.

Song Yunshen stood there awkwardly. Lin Wanghe pressed down the car window, and his eyes fell on Song Yunshen’s face.

“Get in. It’s not allowed to stop here.”

Song Yunshen bit the bullet and got into the car. Although the relationship between them was really complicated, Song Yunshen consciously chose the co-pilot’s seat.

A dated Cantonese song was playing in the car, which astounded Song Yunshen greatly. He hadn’t expected Lin Wanghe to enjoy these old songs. He had thought that young people like Lin Wanghe would like niche English songs and rap.

One couldn’t just sit silently in their boss’ car. He decided to close his eyes to their past and said, “I never thought that Young Master Lin would also come out to take orders.”

“I was free.” Lin Wanghe put on his sunglasses again. He cast a sidelong glance at Song Yunshen and said, “It’s after hours, so you don’t need to use honorific expressions.”

Song Yunshen agreed but felt even more uncomfortable in his heart.

Lin Wanghe casually changed the topic: “You want to raise a dog?”

“Yes.”

“I didn’t pay attention just now, what kind of dog is it?”

“Alaskan Malamute.”

The handsome man turned around and stroked the big, fluffy puppy. The sunshine sprinkled on the faces of one person and one dog and made for an eye-catching scene.

They soon reached the destination, and Song Yunshen’s scalp finally stopped tingling. Lin Wanghe looked at the building through the glass and asked, “Do you live here now?” even though he already knew the answer.

“Yes.” Song Yunshen smiled. “It’s close to the office, and the rent is not expensive.”

Living close to the place of work meant he had to spend less time and money commuting. It also meant that he didn’t have to squeeze in with other people on the public transport for too long.

Lin Wanghe had already found out about Song Yunshen’s apartment from his assistant, so he didn’t ask anything and just nodded. Song Yunshen got out of the car, went to the back seat to pick up his belongings, and then carried large and small bags, saying goodbye and heading upstairs.

“Do you need me to help you take it up?”

“No, no, I can do it on my own.”

Lin Wanghe said, “Hmm,” and continued to stare at him.

Song Yunshen asked tentatively, “Then I’m leaving?”

“Wait,” Lin Wanghe called him to stop. “Don’t forget to give me a five-star review.”

After all, it was his very first order.

“…”
