Chapter 21

Qin Jiulin leisurely swayed his long tail, taking a few silent steps forward. With a gentle leap, he landed outside the wall. Glancing back at Liu Zhongyuan, he then extended his claws, swiftly disappearing into the darkness ahead.

Liu Zhongyuan, while sticking out his tongue to collect the scent left by Qin Jiulin, quickly followed suit. Surprisingly, when it came to speed, the giant snake Liu Zhongyuan couldn’t catch up with the giant tiger Qin Jiulin.

For Qin Jiulin and the others, these past few days have been relatively calm. The entire villa area seemed safe, except for some half-beast transformations confined within their own villas. There were hardly any animal intrusions into the villa area.

Of course, joking aside, the scents of Qin Jiulin and Liu Zhongyuan transformed into giant beasts and permeated the entire villa area. The surrounding animals weren’t fools. Even if they didn’t see their actual forms, they could sense these dangerous scents, especially considering the occasional team outings for hunting.

This resulted in the animals around not daring to approach the villa area. It was supposed to be very safe for ordinary people. However, for Wang Boming and Lin Yuzhe, it wasn’t so friendly. They constantly felt restless and uneasy these days but couldn’t pinpoint the reason. Unable to sleep, they could only go out for a walk.

The more they walked outside, patrolling the villa area, the more restless and anxious they became. In the end, they couldn’t even calm down to think. Only when they went out of the villa area for hunting did they feel some relaxation, a sensation that seemed quite unusual.

Wang Boming and Lin Yuzhe were currently outside, a bit far from the villa area. The two weren’t in a hurry to find prey; instead, they took a short break, chatting.

Wang Boming: “It’s still more relaxing outside. How about you? Are you okay?”

Lin Yuzhe sighed, “Much better. Why is the villa area so unfriendly to us? Why are we in such an abnormal state when we stay there? ”

Wang Boming: “I don’t understand either. Clearly, for us, hunting outside the villa area is the most dangerous, but leaving the villa area feels more relaxed.”

Of course, this relaxation refers to a comparison with staying in the villa area. In fact, it was not much safer outside. They were well aware that, while searching for prey outside, they could easily become the prey of other animals. When Lin Yuzhe transformed into a pigeon and flew in the sky to search for prey, he almost got slapped to the ground by a wildcat that suddenly leaped from a tall tree.

Even though he skillfully avoided the attack, losing two feathers from his wings, he was frightened enough to fly higher. Since then, he has never dared to fly low again.

Lin Yuzhe: “I always feel something’s off. Do you think gaining the ability to sense danger is a result of acquiring special abilities? This restlessness might be a reminder that there’s something powerful in the villa area?”

Wang Boming nodded, then shook his head. “If there were something so dangerous in the villa area, wouldn’t all of us have died long ago? How could we still be alive?”

Lin Yuzhe took a cold breath. “Actually, have you noticed how incredibly safe it is inside the villa area? It’s strange, as if something has claimed its territory, and all other animals dare not approach.”

Wang Boming asked, “Then why are we unaffected?”

Lin Yuzhe, with a hint of fear, spat, “Maybe they see us as reserves? Or perhaps our existence poses no threat to them, like ants on the territory of large animals.”

Wang Boming rolled his eyes. “So you’re saying we’re so weak that they just ignore us?”

Lin Yuzhe replied, “Do you have another explanation?”

Wang Boming shook his head. “No.”

Lin Yuzhe concluded, “Anyway, we can’t leave the villa area. It’s safe there, and no animals have attacked us, day or night. Leaving the villa area would be more dangerous.”

Wang Boming thought for a moment. “Let’s not dwell on this. Shall we go find prey?”

As soon as he finished speaking, a group of wild boars passed by them. Due to the height difference, the boars didn’t notice them.

Lin Yuzhe and Wang Boming exchanged glances. There were too many of them to handle. If only one got separated, that would be ideal. However, the group of boars moved away. Yet, right beneath them, a greedy little boar lingered behind. Was their good luck finally here?

This boar weighed around 130 to 140 kilograms, relatively small compared to the previous group. It indicated how massive the other boars were.

The two looked at each other. Since fate had handed them luck, they couldn’t waste it. It had been a while since they had eaten pork. They wondered if the taste would be good.

However, even this small boar seemed somewhat unusual. Its skin appeared tougher, and its tusks seemed sharper.

Lin Yuzhe whispered, “I’ll transform into a pigeon to observe the group of boars. If there’s any sign of them coming back, I’ll immediately notify you. Be careful with this boar, and if you can’t beat it, run. A wild boar definitely can’t outrun you.”

Wang Boming: “I know; let’s split up.”

Lin Yuzhe: “Don’t act yet. Wait for my signal, okay?”

The group of wild boars had just left not long ago. If they acted too soon and the boar called for help, the rest of the boar group could quickly return. They needed to wait until the boars were farther away.

Wang Boming: “No problem!”

Lin Yuzhe hovered in the sky for a while before sending a signal to Wang Boming. Wang Boming had been keeping an eye on him, and upon seeing the agreed-upon signal, he immediately understood.

Their hunting coordination here was quite good. However, at the same time, inside the villa, the situation wasn’t as smooth. Duan Qiufeng and Qi Jinglan stood in front of Qie Yue, blocking a few people.

Qi Jinglan, somewhat fearful but firm, asked, “What… what do you want to do?”

The one leading was Fu Jingjing. She coldly snorted, “What else? Could it be anything else? Please step aside. Oh, right, you won’t step aside; after all, lying inside is your brother. This useless guy has been sick for so long, eating and sleeping every day, utterly useless. Such a person doesn’t deserve to stay in the villa. Is there a problem with what I said?”

Duan Qiufeng added, “A Yue is handling the tasks assigned by Brother Lin. Wang Ge and Lin Ge didn’t object. Why are you meddling now?”

Fu Jingjing: “Huh, keeping a useless person here is a waste of resources. If you’ve taken care of all his tasks, we wouldn’t say anything, but have you?”

Duan Qiufeng paused for a moment. It seemed like he did slack off a bit. But… He had done most of it, hadn’t he?

“In any case, decisions here are made by Brother Lin and Brother Wang. What you say doesn’t count.”

Qi Jinglan hadn’t expected Duan Qiufeng not to refute what Fu Jingjing had just said. He did seem to have slacked off a bit, but now wasn’t the time to think about that.

Fu Jingjing: “Before Brother Lin and Brother Wang went hunting, I asked Yi Yi. He just said to do as we please. So, we all agree that keeping a useless person here is pointless. We’re going to kick him out now. If you oppose, go talk to Brother Lin when they come back.”

Qi Jinglan anxiously said, “We can only ask Brother Lin when they come back. What do you mean by that?”

Fu Jingjing: “What does it mean? It means what you see. Anyway, either step aside, or… it’s hard to say. Choose for yourselves.”

They argued outside, and inside the room, Qie Yue became increasingly uncomfortable. His head was already spinning, making it difficult for him to even sit up.

Moreover, the constant quarreling outside only added to his distress. Unable to summon the strength to speak, he lay passively in bed, listening to their heated exchange.

Finally, after what seemed to be a long time, the commotion outside ceased.

Duan Qiufeng and Qi Jinglan exchanged glances. After some persuasion, they managed to convince the others to wait for Lin Yuzhe and Wang Boming to return before discussing the matter further.

Qi Jinglan suggested, “Let’s go in and check on Yue. The argument must have been unsettling for him.”

Duan Qiufeng agreed, “Let’s go.”

However, when they entered, they were met not with gratitude but with Qie Yue’s expression of discomfort and impatience.

Qie Yue weakly stated, “I said I feel terrible. Don’t disturb me.”

Qi Jinglan immediately noticed the change in Duan Qiufeng’s expression, which turned grim. She discreetly tugged at his sleeve, prompting him to conceal the ugly expression on his face.

Qi Jinglan said, “Yue, how can you say that? They were about to kick you out just now. Fortunately, Qiufeng stopped them. Even if you don’t want to thank him, you can’t say such things.”

Qie Yue’s mind was buzzing, and he couldn’t quite comprehend what she was saying. He simply waved them away, indicating that they should leave. Qi Jinglan’s expression also soured.

Duan Qiufeng smiled faintly. “Let’s go, Jinglan. If Yue is feeling so unwell, let him rest.”

Qi Jinglan hesitated but eventually followed Duan Qiufeng out of the room. However, instead of expressing gratitude, Qie Yue continued to look uncomfortable and impatient.

Outside, Duan Qiufeng said, “Forget it, Jinglan. Let’s leave him be. If he’s really in that much discomfort, it’s better not to bother him.”

Qi Jinglan was still unsure, but they decided to wait until Lin Yuzhe and Wang Boming returned before addressing the matter further. The two waited until the following morning, and by then, Duan Qiufeng and Qi Jinglan had conveniently forgotten to bring breakfast for Qie Yue. They chose not to bring up the issue regarding Qie Yue that night, and the atmosphere remained relatively peaceful.
