Chapter 15

When they had gone to fetch water before, Wang Boming and Lin Yuze would mostly stay outside, handling the task with great caution, afraid of stirring up trouble that could lead to dire consequences.

This time, things were relatively better. With Wang Boming accompanying them, and his transformation into a red fox form, there was a certain assurance of combat capability, unlike Lin Yuze who could only transform into a pigeon.

As they arrived at the villa gate, they saw the people who were already waiting there, along with the prepared water containers. Wang Boming wasted no time upon seeing them. “Let’s go, the kitchen is running low on water, we need to retrieve it as quickly as possible.”

Zhang Liao and Zhang Wei, the two brothers, appeared sturdy and spoke sparingly. They were honest and straightforward individuals. Already prepared, they carried their equipment, and Duan Qiufeng and Qi Yue were not lagging behind either. They joined them, and together they made their way towards the riverside.

In the middle of this villa area, a wide river flowed through. Many people had bought houses here, attracted by the picturesque scenery and clear waters.

Visiting this place for a vacation allowed one to cleanse their spirit just by gazing at the scenery. However, they never expected that it would ultimately save them.

They all knew that if they had been living in the chaotic urban area of the Capital, according to the chaotic situations they had seen on television and the internet, they might not have even survived up to this point.

Nevertheless, even at present, the situation was far from ideal. Initially, this place was relatively safe, but as time passed, every location became equally perilous.

Especially after discovering that some people could undergo transformations, they became aware of their surroundings. There weren’t many animals in the vicinity, which explained why they hadn’t encountered any attacks thus far.

However, that was only in the early stages. As time went on, this serene and scenic place would transform into a haven for various animals, thereby shrinking the space they had to roam.

Wang Boming cautioned, “We’ve arrived at the river. Be careful. Although no attacks from the river have been reported so far, we shouldn’t let our guard down.”

“Understood, Wang Ge.”

Zhang Liao and Zhang Wei teamed up, while Duan Qiufeng and Qi Yue formed another duo. They successfully filled their containers without any incidents, and a collective sigh of relief swept through the group.

“We’re done. Let’s head back if everything is fine,” declared Wang Boming.

Everyone returned to the villa unscathed. Not only Duan Qiufeng and the others, but even Wang Boming seemed visibly more relaxed. The water had been delivered to the kitchen, and Wang Boming sat down beside Lin Yuze.

Sensing something amiss, Lin Yuze asked in a low voice, “What happened?”

Wang Boming replied, “When we went out just now, I felt…”

“What?” Lin Yuze inquired.

Wang Boming became restless. “I couldn’t quite put it into words. It was a feeling, like a chill running down my spine and my entire body on the verge of trembling. But I couldn’t pinpoint what it was or where the danger lay.”

“Did you have this feeling before?” Lin Yuze asked.

Shaking his head, Wang Boming said, “No, it only happened when I went with them to fetch water just now.”

“Could it be…” Lin Yuze began.

In the past, they wouldn’t have believed in such feelings. But now, they couldn’t afford to ignore them. After undergoing transformations, their perception of danger had become highly sensitive.

Sometimes it might not be that they were being targeted by a specific dangerous entity, but rather, they sensed the presence of a threat in the vicinity of their location.

This heightened perception of danger had saved them several times during their hunting trips, making them firmly believe in this sensation.

Lin Yuze asked, “Did you still feel it after returning home?”

“No, I didn’t,” Wang Boming replied. “And what about you?”

“When I stayed inside the villa, there were no issues. It’s only outside,” Lin Yuze explained.

“Could it be that some highly dangerous animal has claimed this area as its territory?” Wang Boming suggested.

“It’s highly possible, and it might have arrived today or yesterday. Perhaps it hasn’t had the time to cause trouble for us yet,” Lin Yuze speculated.

Wang Boming forced a bitter smile. “Do you think this dangerous creature will allow us to continue living on its turf? Or should we make a swift escape?”

Shaking his head, Lin Yuze replied, “Where would we run to? Everywhere is the same now. Where there are fewer people, there are more animals. And where there are more people, animals are scarce. But have those half-transformed individuals been fully dealt with? The situation in the city might be even more dangerous than in less populated areas.”

“So… we can only stay here for now?” Wang Boming asked.

“Yes,” Lin Yuze affirmed. “If only we had more people here.”

Wang Boming thought about what Zhou Yiyi had previously mentioned about Qin Jiulin, who had rejected their invitations multiple times.

“Should we send someone to Qin Jiulin’s place again?” Wang Boming suggested. “Having more people would make it a bit safer.”

“But hasn’t he already turned us down many times?” Lin Yuze questioned.

“We can explain the situation to him clearly. I don’t think he’ll continue to refuse,” Wang Boming proposed.
