Chapter 267 My Sister-In-Law Is My Surrogate 26

The next day, He Yuan woke up by 4:00am. After making sure the babies were well fed, he handed them over to the servants and wet nurse to clean up before going over to the bottom of the staircase -right at the blindspot between Han Tao's wing and Han Jinhai's wing.

He had a goofy smile on his face as he folded his arms across his chest and leaned against the wall to wait. Such an event had happened last night, how could he -in his right senses- not mess with Han Tao today?

Up in Han Jinhai's wing;

Chen Meili slowly woke up to find herself tightly held in Han Tao's arms. She blushed slightly and tried to detach herself but then the arms around her body held on even tighter. Exasperatedly, she lifted her head only to find out that Han Tao was already awake and staring at her with a gentle expression.

Her blushed deepened. "Br- brother Tao?" And then her eyes widened as 'realization' crashed down. She pushed against Han Tao's bare chest, bundled up a good portion of the bed sheets around her naked body and created some distance between the both of them as tears filled her eyes.

"Brother Tao, last night, I- we- " Her voice became shaky. "What have we done?!"

Han Tao stared at Chen Meili's soft and terrified look with a frown. He'd woken up a while ago and after thinking things through, he didn't think the both of them had done anything subjectively wrong. Chen Meili was a widow and as for him.... well he didn't have anything to so with Xu Lifen and was almost divorced anyways.

In his boxer briefs, he moved over to the edge of the bed and pulled the shaken woman into his arms. "Don't panic. If you're worried about what happened between us then I would take full responsibility."

Chen Meili looked up at Han Tao and a few drops of tears spilled. "Brother Tao, you're married. W- what if sister-in-law finds out? Want if everyone else finds out?!"

Han Tao placed a finger underneath her eyes to stop her pearly tears from wasting. "If Xu Lifen finds out then so what? As for everyone else, I already said I would handle it. What else is there to be sacred of?"

Chen Meili's cries dissolved into hiccups and he placed her head against his chest to reassure her.

Ten minutes later, a fully dressed Han Tao stepped out of the room. The time was 4:15am and although he had said he was going to handle everything, he wasn't so stupid as to let everyone -especially Xu Lifen- find out about what had happened.

He had to first think of a way to divorce Xu Lifen whilst keeping custody of his children. The chances of him keeping the babies at the moment was already so low. If it was discovered that he'd cheated then it was possible that Xu Lifen would keep the twins whilst all he'd get were visitation rights until the twins turned 18.

If that happened then his entire family would automatically place all the blame on Chen Meili. He couldn't have that.

As all sorts of thoughts ran through Han Tao's head, he reached the staircase. He was already halfway down when he unexpectedly caught sight of someone. His eyes widened and he tried to turn back but,

"Ah? Han Tao?" He Yuan called out quickly. After waiting for so long, how could he let this man go? He walked even closer to the staircase with a curious expression. "It's so early, what were you doing in Chen Meili's wing?"

Han Tao grit his teeth and quickly glanced around for an escape from this situation. What were the odds that Xu Lifen would suddenly show up at this particular place, now of all times?!

Seeing that the only options were either to continue going down the stairs or to go back up, he straightened his posture and glared dismissively at his wife. "None of your business."

Right after, he continued down the stairs but before he could walk away, He Yuan stepped in front of him, mocking a confused look. "How could it not be my business? You have refused to divorce me so I am still your wife. Coming out from your sister-in-law's wing so early...

Ahem -Chen Meili is no longer pregnant and she has gone past the recuperation stage so she doesn't need your help for anything." He narrowed his eyes suspiciously. "You couldn't have been cheating on me... could you?"

Han Tao's heart stopped for a second and his eyes narrowed. What was with this demon of a woman so early in the day? He discreetly looked at himself to see if he'd somehow left any traces before saying, "Don't say nonsense."

And then, as naturally as he could, he once again tried to move past Xu Lifen. After successfully taking two steps, the back of his shirt was suddenly caught. He froze.

A smile tugged at the corners of He Yuan's lips as he tightened his hold on Han Tao's shirt and said, "Why do you smell like Chen Meili?"

Han Tao's eyes widened. As he quickly thought of an explanation, the sound of footsteps came from the top of the stairs and Chen Meili, dressed in a bathrobe and holding a black object, appeared soon after.

The minute she set eyes on He Yuan, she froze and quickly put the item in her hand behind her.

He Yuan released his hold on Han Tao and eyed Chen Meili with raised brows. "Why do you have my husband's wristwatch and why are you hiding it behind you?"

Chen Meili's hands trembled. After leaving the bathroom, she'd realized that Han Tao forgot his watch. Now it would've been easy to just let it be until later tonight but she'd had the strong urge to see him one last time and so she rushed out.

She wasn't stupid and knew how messed up things would get if Xu Lifen found out about what had happened so soon. It had taken such a long time for she to get Han Tao back. She couldn't have things go wrong at this point!

"What's going on?"

All three people turned to find Han Rong still in her nightrobe, nursing a steaming cup of tea.

He Yuan was about to open his mouth when Chen Meili quickly cut in, "Good morning aunt Rong!" Her eyes darted to Han Tao. "I had found a rat in my room and screamed. Brother Tao must have been passing by and heard me so he came upstairs to help me."

She brought out the watch and walked up to Han Tao. "Here. Your watch must have fallen off when you weren't paying attention."

Han Tao calmly accepted the watch with a nod.

Han Rong looked between the three of them and shook her head. "Just this issue and you three had gathered here like someone died?"

He Yuan turned Han Tao then. "I noticed you hadn't returned to the wing last night. I had no idea it took so long to kill a rat but since sister-in-law Meili has said so then it must be the truth."

Next he put on an embarrassed smile. "I had misunderstood the both of you just now." Han Tao nodded at that and he continued, "There's no way you could've done anything with your late brother's wife in the very room he'd shared with her before his death. That would be too cruel."

Lastly, he turned to Chen Meili with a sweet smile. "Even the devil would be disgusted if such a thing truly happened."

Han Rong squeezed the cup in her hand with a sneer. "Xu Lifen why is your mind always all over the place?! Why would you even suspect such a thing in the first place?

-A'Tao was raised right and would never cheat! Also, Chen Meili has always loved Jinhai and would never disrespect his memory like that!"

Chen Meili's face turned a little green whilst Han Tao's face twisted a unnaturally.

Seeing this, He Yuan chuckled in his heart before smiling at Han Rong. "Sure. I was the one who misunderstood." And then he turned around and gracefully walked away.

Han Tao watched his wife go before turning to eye Chen Meili. He felt a little uncomfortable in his heart but what had happened had happened. Besides... his brother was already gone and would surely understand wherever he was. With a nod at his aunt, he walked over to his wing.

When only Chen Meili and Han Rong were left, Chen Meili smiled sweetly. "Aunt Rong, I would leave now. Take care." And then she tu6and walked up the stairs.

Right before Chen Meili vanished from sight, her bathrobe slipped a little and Han Rong caught sight of two bite marks at the back of Chen Meili's neck. She was taken aback for a bit and frowned. What did she just see?

Right after, Han Rong shook her head with a soft laughter. She must have seen wrong. Next she took a sip of her tea and continued on the way to her wing. She needed more sleep.

----------------------

Two hours later, Han Tao received an emergency call from the station. A mafia gang had been causing trouble in a different state for sometime now and the different teams that had been sent out to apprehend them had returned without success.

Although Han Tao was on leave, the request to take this case had come from a good friend and since he was already fed up with staying at home, he took the case.

Before he left, the Hans gathered around to see him off. Right at the forefront was Chen Meili. Looking at her sad expression, Han Tao smiled helplessly.

He was aware that he'd promised to take her with him when he walked the babies but this emergency had come up and it wasn't like him to turn down an opportunity to bring criminals to justice.

He patted her head. "It would take two to three months tops and I would be back. I'll definitely keep my promise then."

Chen Meili pouted sadly before slowly nodding. Behind them, the rest of the Hans had amused expressions, Gu Longwei had a dissatisfied frown and Han Rong stared at the two people with a curious expression.

Whilst this was happening downstairs, He Yuan was in the room upstairs, extracting some drug essence from his needles and mixing them into a bowl. He had been expecting Han Tao and Chen Meili to get together but he had no idea it would happen so soon.

He wasn't complaining though. Their copulation had effectively put his plan into motion afterall.

Once he was done mixing up the drugs, what appeared in the bowl was a milky, inviscid, solution. He walked over to the window to watch the people downstairs as he ordered a syringe online.
