Chapter 128: Emergence of an Evolution Stone

Chapter 128: Emergence of an Evolution Stone

Astrid wasted no time as she initiated the charge forward.

A cacophony of ear splitting roars filled the entire valley, but instead of the crazed screaming of psycho’s, it was of a more beastly variation. One after the other, large draconic monsters stampeded out of the enormous tents on either side of the valley entrance.

Level 96 - Greenlock

Their collection of stomps, along with the psycho’s screams were like a mad opera that demanded the attention of the audience.

The psycho’s pumped their fists in the air as they mounted them into battle. Some of them hung upside down as they bobbed up and down at every step of the enormous beasts.

“Rip their flesh!”

“Bloood!”

“Glory to the Eye Queen!”

Astrid couldn’t help herself become hyped at the manic charge of her troops. The blood pumped around her body as she increased her speed to join the frontline. Updated from novelb(i)n.c(o)m

It wasn’t long before they met with their enemies. Femora, and driader, had already begun battling each-other in the hundreds.

The femora’s used the trees to bounce on their unsuspecting prey with peculiar, and often changing movements.

Whereas the driader had a static fighting style. They stood in a rounded formation with long spears. If they happened to be looking in the direction of the leaping humanoid-insects, they would be impaled all the way down the shaft, to where their hands held the spear. All thanks to the added momentum of femora's mighty jumps. The driader also had the power of magic that greatly helped them fight their genetically empowered enemies. Fire would fire forward in a searing blaze, or purple arrows would shoot forward, tearing holes in the femora’s bodies as if they were nothing but paper targets.

But, they had obviously fought each-other for years–if not generations. They knew how to fight against their strengths and counter them in their own ways.

Astrid gazed at the strongest of the femora’s. She noticed three prince’s hanging on the tree, refusing to move.

No, they're biding their time for an opportune moment. Astrid thought as she gazed at them.

As the strongest within their respective groups, they had to be more intelligent, and patient, than the others. It was on them to deal the killing blows to turn the tide.

Then she moved her sight to the mage’s and the warriors glued to their side. Their bodies swirled with high intensity mana.

With a look from Identify, the three question marks were evidence of their strength.

It didn’t take long for all of them to realise that Astrid and the army of psycho’s were approaching. After all, they weren’t really going for a stealthy approach.

Most likely they had already realised that they were coming from afar, but they obviously didn’t want to show their back to their bloodthirsty enemies. In fear of having their lives reaped at any movement from their high velocity movement speed/attacks.

Their respective sides glance over at Astrid as they made some subtle changes.

Astrid frowned. This wasn’t the first time that a third party had involved themselves, she could feel it. It wasn’t going to be as simple as she originally thought.

Even the maddened stricken psycho’s stopped. Or it was more accurate to say that they were determining whether to strip the flesh of the humanoid-insects, or the elongated tribe.

Whatever they were all thinking, it stopped once the Great No-Eyed One unhurriedly stomped toward them. A trail of steam was exhaled from the vents in his mask as the ground thudded with every step.

Just as she was going to move, a pillar of light shot up into the stratosphere. It was clear that it wanted everyone in the world to witness its glory.

Shit. Astrid frowned.

Brett rushed back to Leena’s side. He wasn’t sure if she was able to deal with the assassin, let alone fight back against him.

The only thing he was certain of was that Astrid would absolutely murder him if something bad happened to her battle-maid.

He reached back to the tree line and noticed a fierce battle. Leena was covered in a strange dark purple armour that almost bordered on the line of black. A screeching noise was emitted from the thick armour as her body refused to move even an inch from the repeated attacks of the assassin.

Unlike the other trained killer, this one had a hammer instead of the more subtle weaponry of a born killer. Each strike of the hammer caused a resounding boom from the assassin's monstrous strength, yet still Leena didn’t budge.

Brett catapulted himself from the shadowed tree-line and hurtled straight for the masked assassin. His dual-daggers grew larger, a black shadow swallowing the blades whole as he aimed them straight for the enemy's throat.

The masked assassin seemed to sense the danger as the mouth on his mask twisted upward. With a stomp of his foot, the earth cracked, and surged all around the man. Like a wave, it blasted along the ground with resounding booms.

Brett thought himself safe as his feet weren’t even touching the ground, yet at the last second, the earth rose from the ground and threatened to impale his chest with enormous earthen spikes.

Frowning, his blade sliced through the rock, and with a touch of his hand, re-positioned his body onto the base of the spike, and sprang toward the assassin-warrior unimpeded.

He felt a frigid cold overtake his body–a sign that he was spending too long in his shadow, but he willed his body to continue. A twin black streak, trailed from his two eyes as the enlarged tip of his blade sunk into the masked assassin's throat.

Just as Brett was about to pierce it further within, his heart leapt within his chest as he smelt a stench of rotten egg. He wanted to dodge, but it was too late.

A cataclysmic explosion rocked him, his senses were overloaded by a ringing sound within his ear. Then, it was rapidly overshadowed by the smell of burnt flesh.

Brett slammed into the ground, after rolling a few times, he flipped his body onto his feet. Glancing at the surroundings, the masked assassin was blown into smithereens. Only scraps of fabric remained.

A man in a golden, haloed mask, strolled out from the tree-line. Brett met his lifeless gaze.

Then, he peered at his arm. It was no longer there. Only a never-ending stream of warm viscous red splattered the verdant green grass below.

Brett grit his teeth. He had to move.
