Chapter 71 Drugs Were Made To Follow The Plot

"No, please tell me, I want to understand what is going on here?" Asked Kali.

Kalaini's behaviour was weird, how did they get into this mess? What could she be hiding from them? Kalaini had been so good at keeping her secret, but then again she wasn't exactly the best person to keep a secret either.

She always told Kali everything and tried to act like she knew everything about every place in this world.

But right now her curiosity got the better of her, as it usually did.

Kali sighed loudly and turned her gaze to the water. "I guess I should start with where we are." She said.

The sun was high in the sky and there were no clouds anywhere. It looked like they were in some sort of huge natural pool. At one point the water seemed deep enough to jump in, but now that Kali had walked around for a while she realised it was actually quite shallow.

"I didn't know they had water here..." This thought couldn't leave her alone, since she was the one who brought them here in her dragon form and she didn't remember seeing any ocean while flying.

Kali flinched, "the plot of this place, what does the system wants to sacrifice?" She turned to Kalaini to ask for answers.

Kalaini's face was grim as she looked at Kali like her younger sister. "My guess is that it needs a human sacrifice."

Kali shook her head in denial, but Kalaini kept on going. "The plan I heard when we first arrived is that they want to sacrifice some humans who are willing to take the drugs. The drug makes them more docile and easier to control by the AI system."

Kali froze.

"It will be an easy way for the system to control us all if they can get enough people addicted to it."

"What about me and Lucas?" Kali asked with a desperate look on her face.

Kalaini had no answer to that.

Judging from the way the two were right now, she had no doubts they both would be fine. "I know it's pretty silly to hear this from me, but you and Lucas will be the ones to free us all," she smiled.

"Free... Are you talking about the game?"

"Yes, I'm talking about the game and the ending of this plot, but for now, Kali, please come with me and help me ruin the system's plan." Kalaini looked at her with her big pupils, the only thing left for Kali was to agree.

"I think we're getting close," Kalaini said with a heavy tone. She put her hand out and gave Kali's shoulder a squeeze. "We need to find someone, anyone, who has taken the drug, or knows someone who has it!"

They needed to find it, no matter the cost. Lucas, Xina, Haya and Lya were fighting the monsters right now, the best they could do was to help them from the side.

They walked through the halls looking for anyone who would know anything about the drug that they were searching for. There wasn't much information available because everyone had been so focused on the attacks from the monsters.

No one knew anything. They spoke with several people before finding someone who could help, but his answer only made Kali angrier.

"Who did you hear this from?" Kalaini asked him. He was a young man in his early twenties.

His hair was long and greasy, and he had a lazy eye that made him look shifty and suspicious.

"I don't remember his name, but it was a few months ago. I saw him running down the street, I think. He said that there was a new drug on the streets here, something called Black Death. That's all I remember, and he didn't say where he got it."

"Did you see him again after that?"

"Yeah, he came around for a while, but then I never saw him again," the man replied.

"Tell me everything you do remember!" Kalaini demanded. She grabbed his arm and pulled him to a nearby bench.

They sat down together and began telling each other everything. Kalaini remembered seeing this man, but couldn't recall any details. When she finished, the man told her what he remembered.

"I don't know why, but I thought you were somebody else," he told her. "Anyway, a few weeks later I saw the same guy just walking along the side of the road. He looked like a zombie. He kept rubbing his eyes and stumbling over himself. Then he started to run." The man let a long sigh.

"After that, I tried talking to him every time I saw him, but he wouldn't even respond. One day, when he was at the end of the block, I just ran up to him and hit him in the face as hard as I could."

Kali glanced at Kalaini and then turned back to the man who was about to add more, "he fell over and didn't move for a long time. I took his wallet, but he was just lying there unconscious. After that, I stopped seeing him."

"So there's no information about it, great!" Kalaini gritted her teeth, "think, what happened last time, what did we do?" She started biting her lips as one of her legs kept on shaking.

"Kalaini, relax, think carefully..." Kali's calm and soft voice was trying to calm her down. They were teammates and Kali had a lot of respect for her ever since their day-one meeting.

"Please, do you remember why the system put these drugs in the plot in the first place?"

"I don't. My memory feels foggy for some reason, I thought, I my mind was system free." Kalaini removed her hand from her mouth.

Her eyes became big and her eyelashes lifted as she turned her head to the man sitting next to her. Kalaini folded her hand and slapped it like a hammer on the other one, "I know why!"
