Chapter 320 - Truths

It did not cross his mind before that Lyn would have such thoughts; then again, Allen was always under the impression that she did not care about him. No, it's not like she didn't care about him; it's most likely the opposite. It's because she cares so much that if she intervened, too much things would go wrong. "Your sister did this."

Allen was not the type to point fingers at people. But one of the things they discussed when they first got engaged was this, to be honest with each other. Lyn didn't look surprised at all, and the girl even sighed.

"I figured, eldest sister went to visit you. Did she complain about it, about you helping Kazuya and me?"

"You heard from him what happened correct?"

"I did," her gaze dimmed. "Eldest sister is using despicable means to get to Kazuya."

"Your sister isn't to be taken lightly though her actions on this matter are foolish. She's very clever on the battlefield. If she uses her brains, then it wouldn't be impossible to get what she wants."

At that comment, Lyn, who was tying the bandages, tightened it, causing him to sigh. "Lyn, dearest. Surely you understand what I mean?"

"I do get it, I do. But it's still not a nice thing to hear.."

"Lyn."

"Allen, if I were to confront my sister directly. Which side would you take?"

"Yours."

Lyn laughed, "At least think it through, will you?"

"Is there any need? If you need me to do anything, tell me straight up."

Lyn's gaze softened, "You still want to stay by my side? After everything, even though you know the truth about me. The past few years, I've tricked you. I've snuck out a lot and evoked fear in people. I've stained my hands in more ways than one. When my identity is revealed, people will speak out regarding the things I've been up to for the last few years. They'll understand that the abandoned Princess is not as weak as they all think. When that happens, will you still stay me?"

When Allen first heard of the horrific things that Lyn had been up to. He did not know what to think. He didn't know she was capable of it. But the signs were always there.

When they first met when she was in an innocent age of ten — her interest towards the battlefield was peculiar.

"I've been covered with the dust and blood of my enemies so many times now, that I've lost count." Lyn trailed off, "Kazuya he..doesn't know everything just yet. When he finds out the truth, I wonder how he would see me. Sometimes I wish I could go back and erase the things I've done. It's foolish really, now that I know happiness, I..."

"That's enough," Allen cuts her off, and Lyn laughed.

"I'm sorry, I've been ranting, even though I came here to take care of you."

'Lyn, I love you please..please forget about all this and come with me...' But Allen refrained himself.

...

It seemed like Lyn didn't come here alone. Or rather this Rhys must have a peculiar habit knowing where his fiance was all the time. Truthfully, Allen didn't want to send her away with him. But he knew better than to refuse considering her obvious weak state.

Allen didn't bother to knock; he knew the King was not the kind of person who would care about formalities. The King was speaking to other people when he came inside, which he immediately dismissed.

Once the three left the room, the King suddenly leans forward, " Well then. It looks like it's just you and me."

His face color pales automatically, " I knew you would say that. But I'm not happy at all. And your way too close, give me a break already. " This guy, he seems to be even more laid back and creepy than before. Of course, this was a thought he kept to himself, why would he disrespect the King of all people?

King Daichi laughs, " Hoho. What's wrong with this?" Everything! " Now, we can share some secrets."

He raises his eyebrows, " Secrets?"

"That's right, for example. How you had a nice mood going with my daughter earlier." Haru said, a teasing smile on his face. "It's so nice to be young."

Allen felt his own cheeks go hot, "Wha- ridiculous thing are you suggesting," he exclaimed. Honestly, that sort of joke isn't called for. Especially since he understands it better than anyone, how troubled she is whenever it concerns love.

He explained the events from the beginning, making sure not to leave any details out. "And that's how it is, so please refrain from your teasing remarks."

"Migratory bird..?" his tone changed. "Hmm. You're always relating yourself to something ironic, my dear daughter."

"Relating herself?"

Daichi nodded, "Yes, do you know what makes these birds different? You see, these birds tend to travel from one place to another. They have no fixed destination; the time they remain in one place is very short. Even if they have a fixed goal, they can never stay there. However, being able to fly freely in the sky is still better than what Lyn goes through."

"What you just said.."

"Oops, my tongue slipped," No, he did that on purpose, " Want to know more Prince Allen?" Allen knew that he didn't have to respond to that. "What other people burden themselves with might be unbelievably heavy. But are you still prepared?"

' If I can at least carry apart of that burden you have been carrying yourself.'

"Yes."

Of course, he was prepared; he has been for a long time. Whenever it concerns her, he would do anything. "Lyn told me about things..about straining her hands with so much blood. I already heard the reports, but..."

"Heh very good. Well then, let's start from the beginning before she was sent away to the monastery, although the rumors had always stated that she was sent away when she was a young baby. The truth was, she was still around us by the age of 5, at least. At that time, she was constantly trapped inside our home and was not allowed to go outside. The reason? It's simple because a newborn such as herself is a danger to society. A massacre due to mental instability of blood l.u.s.t." That would be…

Daichi continues, " Wouldn't that be incredible if it were to happen. The ability to control the blood l.u.s.t is only half the story. The important part is to be able to clean up after taking blood. And that's why until Lyn mastered both of them. She was always like a caged bird."

' Isn't that alright? Anyone would prefer to be in the sky rather than someone's fingertips.'

His eyes went wide in realization, " I didn't know.'" This entire time, what burden has she been carrying? To what extent does he not understand her feelings?

"Feeling compassionate? Not like that will get us anywhere. We can do even nothing if you feel pity," Daichi's gaze softened. "You genuinely love my daughter, and that's why I chose you. I knew you'd be able to protect her and keep her from harm's way. If you're her partner, she won't be dragged into any unnecessary squabble."

"Then..."

"But, it seems like the other candidates for my daughter's heart are quite something. Especially that Kazuya, he's more than proven his worth. Still, I hesitate with him and still favor you. Why do you think that is?" At this point, Allen noted how tense the atmosphere was.
