Chapter 298 - I'm just curious

Year 4014 Mist Kingdom - Town-

'My power takes away precious things from people. The target doesn't even realize it's lost. But it is, and they can never get it back. I t's crueler than taking their lives. It truly is the worst power. '

'I know you have doubts. Deep inside your heart, there's a huge burden.'

'That is correct. But why are you so interested?'

'I just wanted to comfort you.'

If he didn't make that silly remark in the end, perhaps she really would have reconsidered her opinion of him. After all, Rhys did not look at her with disgust when she cried about her powers; nor did he scorn her in any way. There's no way she can trust that guy. That's certainly the last time she is opening up for him. Why does she always get so exhausted around him? She only met him yesterday, but already he was gradually driving her crazy. She really doesn't understand these type of feelings.

Lyn exhales deeply, it was already sunset, and they were heading back. The rain continued for so long, so they had no choice but to remain in that place. Lyn shook her head, do not think about what happened there.

"Uh, which way back?" Rhys mumbled.

She rolled her eyes when she saw where he was heading. "Not that way, this way."

"What? That way?"

Lyn grumbles in frustration, "No! Ugh, if you don't know where you're going. Don't try to lead. Just follow me." Unbelievable, how come this guy doesn't even know the location of his own home? Is he crazy? Then again, it's not like it's his real home.

It pained her whenever she thought of it that way. Her new companion leaving so suddenly.

"Hmmm. I feel like I'd lose sight of you quickly since you're so short."

Tsk, he's so frustrating. It's obvious what he wants her to do. It's annoying, but they can't be wasting any time here. She somehow swallowed her anger and extended her hand towards Rhys.

Rhys looked at her, blankly, "Huh? What's this?"

"W—well, you said you'd get lost if we didn't hold hands," Lyn stammered. Why is he acting ignorant?

"Huh? Did I really say that?"

"Yes. It was yesterday!" Lyn exclaimed. How on earth did he forget that? No, he didn't forget. Right now, he is just messing with her.

"Oh yeah, I guess I said something like that. But you were so dead against it. Why the sudden change of heart?" Rhys trails off, "I guess we really are getting along."

This jerk! He's so annoying. What makes him act so c.o.c.ky? "I'm going to get in serious trouble this time, you know?"

Rhys, however, didn't comment on that.

"No, we're not," Lyn shook her head.

"Huh, really?"

As he said that, Rhys grabbed hold of her hand that just been extended into the air. Then they proceeded walking straight ahead. It felt strange holding hands with somebody who wasn't him; there's no warmth either.

"I told you that's not the right way," Lyn was very annoyed at this point. What is with this person?

"Oh, oops."

"We'll see the way out if we go straight ahead through here. The base is through. .," Lyn's sentence fell short when a familiar voice called out to them.

"Hey! Rhys! Lyn."

Lyn looked stunned when she saw Sanford. She heard that Sanford was back now, and it's only natural that he came looking for her realizing she wasn't there.

"Hey you two, I'm glad you're both okay. We were worried that something had happened since you didn't return," Sanford grinned. "The other two are very concerned."

Lyn immediately knew what that tone implied. It meant they were both busted.

"Seriously. However, I wasn't expecting you to show up holding hands," Sanford seemed very surprised.

At that remark, Lyn aggressively yanked her hand away from Rhys. She was still upset with him.

"Ouch, what's up? Why are you letting go of my hand so suddenly?"

Lyn doesn't respond. As Sanford walked closer to them, "Geez, just where did you two go wandering off too? We were searching hard for you guys."

"She started feeling ill during shopping. We took a quick break, but then it started pouring, so we couldn't return right away." Rhys responded. It surprised Lyn that Rhys answered his question honestly, although his true statement omitted some information. Which means there's no way Sanford would think he's lying. Did he cover for her just now?

"Kiddo, you did nothing weird to this girl, did you?" Sanford looked doubtful.

"Haha, of course not."

Weird? What are they talking about?

....

- Prince Ralph Manor -

When Lyn entered the room, Rhys pulled her down onto the bed. She looked at him, dumbfounded, "What do you want?"

"Using you as a pillow, I'm tired."

Why is this person so shameless? She's never met anybody so ridiculous before. A deep sigh escaped her lips as he rested his head on her lap. She really doesn't understand what he wants from her. But he listened to her when she was talking about her powers. Nobody else has ever done that before. Her gaze fell on the person sleeping on her lap. "My legs will get tired...."

Rhys quickly got up and shifted his position; he instead pulled her into his embrace. "Alright, don't move. I'm already compromising enough "

'Such a shameless person.' Well, forget it. She is tired. How did her simple visit end up with her getting drenched in the rain?

"Tell me, Rhys; you won't talk about yourself?"

Rhys smiled, "You want to know about me?"

"I'm just curious. I don't know many people."

"You don't?" Rhys asked.

Lyn nodded and then realized how weird that sounded. "Uh, my family is overprotective..."

"I can tell, your very pretty. Hey, isn't it fine now? Let me see what is under your hood."

Ah, even though she initially came here to show him. Prince Ralph sent them on an errand immediately, so she didn't get the opportunity to show him. Unconsciously she put on her hood right after she left the shower too. Lyn suddenly felt nervous, she's never shown anyone her appearance properly. Other than those who live in the church. Lyn didn't know what to do. She left his arms and sat up.

Rhys did the same, "You don't want to show me? It just feels weird for us to be friends if I can't see your face."

He made a valid point there; even she had to get a good look at Arthur before she became comfortable enough to speak with him. But Lyn wondered if it were really okay to show a person she just met what she looked like. Rhys reached over, and his fingers were on her hood.

"Let me see everything, okay?" Rhys asked with a kind tone.

"Okay," Lyn mumbled. She still wasn't sure. But he really doesn't seem like a bad person. While Rhys irritated her earlier, that doesn't make him a bad person. It should be okay, it's not like she is doing anything wrong.

Eldest brother was very suspicious of her, though. She has to be careful. He would surely scold her if he saw this sight.
