Chapter 138 - A Single Thank you

After discussing things with her eldest sister and brother Allen, they ended the call. Shaarya returned to patching up Kazuya's wound. Moments before, when she heard those words, she felt that her whole world had fallen apart. She even looked at Kazuya like he was the enemy.

But, now, Shaarya was calm. It's not this man's fault that her sister likes him. Though she only heard a brief interaction between the two. Shaarya could tell that he obviously cared a lot about her sister. Her sister seemed different too.

Since the call ended, the man named Kazuya was awfully quiet. Shaarya herself wasn't a talkative person, so she usually would not mind the silence too much. But, right now, she had a lot of things she wanted to discuss. According to her second brother's letters, this person has been spending the most time with her sister the last two months.

He should know the most about her sister and how things have been for her. However Shaarya hesitates to ask, she felt like it would be a betrayal to brother Allen.

"How did you get these wounds?"

Kazuya laughed, "Well, I heard the commotion. Rhys told me how he got someone kidnapped, oh Rhys is my second in command, I guess?"

So, she wasn't just overthinking things they really are the same people.

"So I panicked, getting commoners caught up in our plan wouldn't work. Rhys told me you looked like somebody from an elite family, and that made things worse. Because if you were, then that meant we would have to silence you ourselves personally."

Shaarya dropped the bandages in her hands then, and Kazuya laughed. "Don't worry, don't worry, I won't do that now. You turned out to be Lyn's sister after all."

So if she weren't then, they'd get to her? Uwaah, so scary. Shaarya was under the impression that this man was a friendly person. But just now she felt an awful chill in the air. How frightening! Maybe he is deceiving her sister? Otherwise, why would her sweet sister fall for such a guy? Sweet... Shaarya expression fell, 'Aargh they are the same,' her sister is always smiling and cheerful too. But when it came to the things she wants to protect, sister gets scary like this too.

"I apologize, you seem to have sustained this wound because of me."

Kazuya shook her head, "Don't mind it too much," he trailed off and looked at the balcony window that was now shut, "They will figure it out sooner or later."

The pursuers?

"Initially, I planned to leave, but I think it would be better if I stayed. The reason Prince Ereland is still gone is because he's investigating you," Kazuya trailed off, "You met him once before too right? Lyn told me. He probably recognized you."

"But that was when I was a mere child.."

Kazuya shook his head, "There are traits that don't go away even when you're older. Even if that man is stupid 100% of the time, he doesn't completely lack common sense."

"Then," Shaarya clenched her fist, "Won't it be bad for me if he confirms it?"

"I don't think he will harm you. But considering how he is after Lyn. He will most likely use you as bait to lure her out."

"Then, what are we supposed to do?"

"I have a plan, but you'll have to trust me."

Trust, trust this person? Trust the guy who took her sister away from brother Allen. Shaarya hesitated, but then she looked up, and their eyes met each other. This person truly cares for her sister. Even if she is against the two being together, it looks like he's been treating sister well.

Otherwise, why would brother Allen let this man get away scot-free?

On the road - H Street -

Along the way, Allen continued to fill in the gaps of her knowledge regarding this town. Like she heard about previously, this place was once a beautiful town. In fact, many scholars gathered here to do research and meet fellow researchers. The Avon family is a scholar family who helped set up a huge private library in this town. The majority of the funding for this place was thanks to them.

A scholar family filled with sons and daughters who excel in all fields, arts, magic, research. Only a decade or so had passed since the start of their wealth, because of the donation and building of the library.

Private research facilities, schools - so all those tattered buildings she walked past were once something beautiful. Lyn thought there was something strange about the place. There were many thieves, yes, and yet the buildings looked very wealthy. Certain buildings looked more damaged than others, like a group of people looted and couldn't find anything.

Lyn, however, couldn't concentrate on this knowledge, since well she was nervous.

"Why are you so fidgety?" Allen asked, "It's not like I will try something unreasonable like that man did when you were riding with him."

By that man, Allen was talking about. Sure enough, whenever she rides with Rhys, he's always doing strange stuff to her. Like kissing her neck and touching her b.r.e.a.s.ts. Several times she almost fell off because she was trying to get away. A deep sigh passed her lips, true this situation is better. However, Lyn felt nervous. 'They are so close together,' Lyn thought.

Allen was not doing anything unreasonable like Rhys. But Lyn still felt his breath on her neck, and every so often it felt like he was in hailing her scent. Lyn shook her head frantically, that can't be right.

This really is strange, though, to be riding on a horse with Allen. Although Lyn showed Allen plenty of her embarrassing sides and weak moments, this still felt odd to her. Lyn has never been in a position where she would be working seriously, and Allen would be around to see. How odd, the person who told her to stay like a caged bird before, is now letting her roam around freely. It really does go to show, how much time has changed now.

"Allen, thank you. For listening to what I have to say," Lyn murmured.

According to Rhys, she was getting too worked up, and he almost knocked her out to send her back. But Allen stopped him from doing so. Lyn knew full well that Rhys meant no harm, and that she was getting very emotional. From the sound of the recording, Kazuya was hurt. So her concern for her sister aside, Lyn wanted to rush to see Kazuya too. If Prince Ereland catches Kazuya when he is like that, it won't be good for me.

"It is my duty as your fiance, to watch over you and trust your judgment," Allen trailed off, "But even more than that, I have never seen that look on your face before. So I'll admit it intrigued me a little."

Lyn chuckled, "Then, if I've captured your attention Mr cold-blooded Prince, maybe I'll keep it for a while and sing a song, so you don't get bored.

"Then, I shall do the singing."

Her eyes went wide, but they softened when she hears a familiar tune.

"What'll you do when you get lonely?

And nobody's waiting by your side?

You've been running and hiding much too long.

You know it's just your foolish pride..."

A song that can save her from sadness and despair surely doesn't exist. But a persons voice can help calm and soothe her corrupted and dark soul. This persons voice can help temporarily ease her pain. Lyn wonders, though, for how long?
