Chapter 111.2 – Adding More Firewood

Originally, Xie Yuan assisted the Rong Emperor in unifying the North and established the Rong State, and he was highly valued and trusted by the latter. But his background was the biggest danger.

When no one mentioned it, the Rong Emperor naturally wouldn’t think much about it. But if one person told him that Xie Yuan had ulterior motives, then a second person told him that Xie Yuan was full of ambition, and a third person told him that Xie Yuan missed his hometown… what would the Rong Emperor think?

And the worst thing was that Xie Yuan truly missed his hometown! Although he never said it, it could be seen that he felt a bit disdainful towards those barbarians, seeing that he trained his children in the Six Arts, and never made them learn the traditions of the Rong tribes.

Xie Yuan never hid it in the past because he had a high position, and no one dared to say too much. But now, some people were starting to mention these things in front of the Rong Emperor. One person said one thing, then another person would say something else. Over time, they all turned into evidence, so how could people not become suspicious?

Moreover, the Rong State had been established for a few years. The Rong Emperor gradually grew the ambition and desire for power that an Emperor would have – how could he share the power with Xie Yuan for long?

It’s just that Xie Yuan had a lot of merit before, as well as excellent abilities. The Rong Emperor either didn’t want to show anything, or had suppressed these thoughts before. But it was different now. The matter had been brought to light, and there were a lot of people who couldn’t stand seeing him. The Rong Emperor’s mind suddenly became active…

Actually, this was just a simple sowing discord tactic. After all, Xie Yuan was from Liang, so he was naturally at odds with the northern barbarians. Although he was talented, the people of the grasslands often struggle against each other, and was used to using force to determine the strong and the weak. Most people there still worshipped the strong. Xie Yuan’s talents were somewhat “unsuitable” to Rong, and his position was not as table as it seemed.

It’s just that Xie Yuan was clever and skilled. If Lu Qipei and his group were to make a move, let alone passing discordant words to the Rong Emperor’s ear, the person they arranged would probably be intercepted before he could even speak, and Xie Yuan would be able to trace it back to the source!

This was also the reason why Lu Qipei had always been hesitant to act. But the Emperor and the Crown Prince’s tactics were obviously much more sophisticated. Even if Xie Yuan detected it, what could he do? Anyways, revenge was impossible, and the seeds of suspicion had been planted in the Rong Emperor’s heart.

As far as this round goes, Xie Yuan had already lost, and he lost because he was caught off guard.

Once things took the wrong step, the next steps would inevitably have errors. No matter who made the move this time, there would definitely many other moves waiting for Xie Yuan in the future.

The news was truly comforting, but how could they miss such an opportunity? Lu Qipei’s eyes turned dark as she told Qi Yang, “Your Highness, at this time, shouldn’t we add more firewood to the flame, so it can burn more brightly?”

Qi Yang smiled and had just said yes when she heard a ‘thud’ sound, and sparks splashed from the brazier in front of her.

The two of them were stunned and turned their heads, only to see Lu Sheng, innocently throwing charcoal into the brazier with an innocent face. Seeing the two of them look over, she even raised her tiny face and gave them a pure and harmless smile, as if waiting for praise.

The young couple looked at the brazier and then at the little dumpling, and couldn’t help but laugh when realization dawned on the. Qi Yang held Lu Sheng in her arms and said, ‘Why is Ah Sheng so cute?’ while hugging her happily.

Lu Sheng blinked in confusion and tilted her head for a moment, then, thinking that Qi Yang’s words should be a praise for her, she also smiled with satisfaction.

The rabbit that was originally held in Lu Sheng’s arms was a bit pitiful though. When Qi Yang suddenly hugged Lu Sheng, it was caught in the middle and almost suffocated to death. After struggling and finally managing to jump out, it panicked and jumped straight to the direction of the brazier.

Fortunately, Lu Qipei had sharp eyes and quick hands. She was afraid that something would happen to the rabbit and Lu Sheng would cry again, so she grabbed one of its hind legs and saved it from falling into the brazier!

Fortunately, the rabbit escaped the fate of being a roasted rabbit. But amidst the hurry, the rising flame managed to scorch the rabbit, and not only did its eyebrows and whiskers get singed, even the originally snow-white fur on its face turned yellow.

Before the rabbit kicked with its hind leg, Lu Qipei threw it to the side, and couldn’t help but feel amused looking at its “miserable” appearance.

On the other hand, Lu Sheng was startled and hurriedly struggled out of Qi Yang’s embrace, then picked up her precious rabbit and thoroughly examined it. In the end, it was found that apart from the yellowed fur and wilted beard, the rabbit itself was fine.

The little dumpling breathed a sigh of relief. Unaware that its fur had been roasted yellow, she took out a handkerchief from her arms to wipe the rabbit’s face.

The rabbit behaved really well in her arms, neither kicking nor struggling. Even when it had its face wiped forcefully, it only gave a look of despair, then finally started combing its own fur with its paws.

Qi Yang and Lu Qipei looked at the interaction between these two little ones and felt a bit amused. They watched the two for a while before withdrawing their gaze. After that, Lu Qipei looked at the flames in the brazier that had become quite a bit stronger, and exchanged glances with Qi Yang with a knowing look.
