Chapter 2 - Background

Yu Feihong was her half brother. Although he shared the same father, he did not share the same mother.

They were both currently living with Yu Huiyin's maternal grandfather, who had no blood ties to Yu Feihong but still treated him as his own grandson.

Yu Huiyin and Yu Feihong's father was named Yu Jingshen. He was a director in the entertainment industry, and he had fallen in love with Yu Huiyin's mother when they were twenty years old.

He married her right away, and as a renowned figure within the entertainment industry, he had to consider his image when dealing with everything that had to do with his family.

They had been married for seven years before they finally managed to give birth to Yu Huiyin. However, their happiness did not last long. When Yu Huiyin was six years old, her father had come home with a son, whom he had gotten with a mistress.

Yu Huiyin's mother was devastated when she heard about her husband's betrayal, but she still treated the child as her own, raising him to be a good boy, whom she wholeheartedly loved.

Once again, due to the fact that he was a renowned director, he told the whole world that the mother to this child was his wife. Even though she knew the truth, she never exposed him.

When Yu Huiyin was twelve years old, and Yu Feihong was six, the mother had become ill. Her disease was fatal, and knowing that she was dying, Yu Jingshen did nothing to help her. Instead, he conspired with an actor and ruined her reputation, made headlines about her being unfaithful, and divorced her. He even sent the two children with her, and never once since had he paid any attention to them.

He then went on to marry a rich woman from the upper levels of society, and became an even more established director, while Yu Huiyin's mother slowly succ.u.mbed to her disease.

It turned out that this rich woman was his mistress through many years, and that she had a son who was one year older than Yu Huiyin, alongside two daughters, one the same age as her, and another who was two years younger.

When Yu Huiyin was eighteen, her mother had died, leaving the family of three to depend on one another. When she graduated from high school, she started working hard to provide for Yu Feihong and her grandfather.

She took on lots of jobs, and her younger brother was immensely smart, managing to get a scholarship at the most prestigious high school in the entire capital.

Like this, the family had managed to scr.a.p.e by, but often Yu Huiyin would be full of hatred towards the man who was her father.

Whenever these emotions erupted, she would go out and race on her motorcycle, the only thing that she possessed worth some money.

She had saved up from before she left the Yu household, and she had gotten the driver's license and the bike the moment she was legally allowed to, making it so that she had been racing for years now.

It was when she was racing and fighting that she still felt alive. It was when she was living on the edge that things were feeling real to her.

Yu Huiyin was what many would consider a troublemaker, but she was loving towards those she cared for. She would do anything to save her dear ones.

It was also because of this that the entire family was well known throughout the whole area. They offered help to anyone who needed it and never judged others.

Yu Feihong was also the pride of the neighborhood. Although he had come from such a c.u.mbersome background, he was still capable of getting into the most famous Yiji High.

"Come and eat your noodles," Grandfather Zhou said, as he looked at Yu Huiyin. He signed deeply, knowing that even though he scolded her, she was not going to listen to his words.

Yu Huiyin grinned happily and ran to the table, where a bowl of the most delicious noodles was waiting for her.

Taking the chopsticks, she happily said, "thank you for the meal," before she dug in.

After eating, she hurried to the bathroom, where she found the first aid kit. Here she cleaned her wounds and washed up before she headed to bed. She had to wake up at four the following morning to rush to a new work she had just started recently.

She had found work in a convenience store that was open twenty-four hours a day, and her shifts were in the early morning and until noon, after which she would work as a waitress at a small restaurant until late in the evening.

These two jobs did not give an amazing salary, but it was better than nothing, and she was able to provide the family with food and shelter.

Sleeping soundly, both Yu Feihong and Grandfather Zhou were quiet. Yu Feihong was studying, and Grandfather Zhou was cleaning the place. Although it was not much, it was after all their home.

It was late into the evening before Yu Feihong stopped studying. He knew that the entire family depended on him in the future, and he wanted to live up to their trust. Hence he was earnest about his studies.

When he entered the room, he found that Yu Huiyin was in a deep sleep, and he could not help but sigh. He knew that he was not Grandfather Zhou's real grandchild and that his arrival had broken the heart of the woman he considered his mother.

He was more aware of his own status than anyone, and this was also why he wanted nothing more than to be the pillar of support for the entire family.
