Chapter 188: Unraveling talents in a bloody tournament

Yun Jhin body along with the corpse of the blonde-haired man that he killed disappeared as he returned to the blood river underneath the Darkness palace.

The tournament didn't start yet so he could rummage through the guy's memories and feed his body to the blood river first.

Images and memories from the soul he absorbed ran through Yun Jhin's main memory core as he looked through the information he needed, he was a disciple from the Unicron Blue Academy one of the higher-ranked sects in the world but they weren't in the top 10 sects.

Of course, those disciples from the top 10 sects wouldn't use such dumb and obvious ways of disbanding the tournament and he was sure they didn't want the tournament to be canceled either considering they surely wanted to see what type of plan he wanted to unfold.

Yun Jhin dropped the body into the murky dark red river as it disappeared into nothing the moment it touched the surface.

"Ok, if my calculations are correct after this tournament the blood river should awaken with 100% capabilities!"

Yun Jhin looked through the formation at the gladiator arena and waited while cultivating. As time passed the start of the tournament arrived and the participants were all put onto the arena for a battle royale!

The first part of the tournament would start with this fight as having them fight one by one would be too boring for him and the faster they spilled blood the faster his river would awaken.

Such a big crowd of people launching ki-infused attacks at each other made the whole arena start to crack and the damage it had received almost made it unusable anymore.

However the damage was repaired almost instantly with the use of the formation as the blood and bodies that remained on the arena somehow disappeared, this made the participants a little bit suspicious but considering the corpses would cluster their space they were actually happy they disappeared.

These people were dead anyway so most of the participants didn't really care, but the spies from the sects had pale faces as they looked at the corpses disappearing around them, they wanted to report that the guess of the higher-ups was true but the moment they took out a jade slip to transmit what was happening they found out that all communications were cut off!

They frowned as they tried everything they could to reconnect to their headquarters but the moment their guards were let down the others swarmed them like a horde of hungry zombies and their lives were forfeit, after all, the spies were all mediocre disciples from the top sects and not their potentate experts so they were easily killed due to the teaming up and dirty tactics the rogue cultivators used.

Yun Jhin watched as they slaughtered each other like animals and chuckled as he remembered the early days when he used to be as dumb as them. He didn't miss those days.

As the slaughters ensued Yun Jhin started to identify the stronger and smarter contestants, he had his eyes on 4 males and 3 females.

The 4 males were all average-looking on the surface but Yun Jhin knew that they were hiding themselves using their techniques, as for the females they were all celestial beauties but Yun Jhin could see through their disguises, and from what he saw they were all average or ugly.

Living in bad conditions could lead to your outer appearance becoming less desirable and all rogue cultivators lived in those conditions, however, outer appearance could be changed depending on the expertise of the cultivators so it didn't really matter unless one had ways to see through their disguises as Yun Jhin did.

Yun Jhin didn't care much about outer appearance as he focused more on their killing techniques and cultivation bases, they all had a cultivation base above the 5th stage of the sage realm and their techniques were refined with the expertise of those that had been through thousands of battles.

This showed that they were veterans that had fought for long times and people that Yun Jhin needed in his sect as elders, their battle powers were above their cultivation base and their talents were special!

Slaughter continued as the number of participants dropped to 5 million and the corpses continued to disappear as Yun Jhin looked down at the river below his feet.

It started to glow crimson as the dark red color faded and its murkiness turned into a clear state.

Most of the people who tried to send out news had been already killed and only the spectators remained who only got news of what happened around now.

There were spies among the spectators as well so they immediately sent word to the sects.

*************************

The fat man with long ears meditated as he got the news from the dwarf and shook his head:

"It seems he played us really well focusing on our fear and paranoia making us think that he had already activated the blood river... he didn't change one bit."

The dwarf didn't know what to say as he kneeled and left, leaving the fat man alone.

"Ah... Yun Jhin and Yuan Fang, these two people are really a pain in the sides of the universe... but they are too annoying to deal with... what shall I do?"

*******************************

The old man from the Dead Bones sect smiled as he got the news from a raven with red eyes, he chuckled with his sinister voice and looked through the bone tower towards the direction of the blood throne sect as he muttered:

"Ah, Yun Jhin.... you truly are devious, hopefully, I can visit now."

*******************************

Yun Jhin ignored the shivers going through his body as he knew they would talk again about him, after all, he fooled all of them!

It was a mixture of psychological warfare combined with the habits of those old fogies who couldn't keep their hands in their own territories if the big bosses left their headquarters.

Due to the selfishness and nature of the cultivators, Yun Jhin could fully come back as the patriarch of the blood throne sect and expand his sect without any problems now!

He didn't particularly care if they were going to target his disciples as they wouldn't send elders after them, actually, this was a good thing as it would temper his disciples!

Yun Jhin returned his gaze to the tournament as he felt the blood river underneath him starting to bubble with excitement as the crimson color returned to it quickly.

Only 1 million participants were left in the tournament as their bodies disappeared along with all of the blood and organs on the arena.

The 4 men and 3 women had already done their best and now they were using some techniques to hide from the crowd as they were still killing each other with ferocity.

Yun Jhin liked the style of these fellows and decided he would recruit them in the sect even if they wanted to or not, he could see that they were unaffiliated with anyone due to their techniques and actions which screamed rogue cultivators.

Even if there was a chance they were spies specifically trained as rogue cultivators from the other sects he didn't really care as he could kill them any time he wanted with the use of the reawakened blood river.

The blood river underneath him continued bubbling as he looked at the continously descreasing number of participants... in the end they all ended up at 1,000 in number and the blood river started to roar as it awakened fully!

Yun Jhin submerged himself under the river as he felt the purified blood rushing into his body, the river itself cheered as the connection between them was fully awakened and it was like the embrace between a father and son, short but full of emotion.

Yun Jhin got out of the blood river as his eyes burned with a crimson color and his cultivation base started to rush towards the 6th stage where it stopped there.

Now it was time for the 2nd stage of the tournament which was also the last one, the 1v1 fights!

The 1,000 surviving participants looked at each other with both anticipation and a gaze that analyzed each other.

Yun Jhin's appearance projected itself on the biggest wall of the gladiator arena as he looked down at the survivors and the losers who surrendered before they could die, he waved his hand and all of the losers disappeared leaving only the 1,000 winners on the arena.

Seeing his shocking crimson gaze and his analyzing eyes made the participants rather intimidated by him but they all knew he was the patriarch of the sect and he would surely come and give out a speech at the end of the first stage.

Yun Jhin finished looking all of them over and nodded as he identified which ones were spies and which ones were truly rogue cultivators.

He opened his mouth and decided to start with the speech before starting the second stage of the tournament.
