Chapter 499 Beast Mode

Chapter 499 Beast Mode

After contemplating everything in his mind for a while, the goalkeeper decided to rush out just as the winger got to the edge of the box, but just as he stepped off his goal line, Mateo hit the ball with the tip of his boot.

That was all he needed to do to lob the ball over the goalkeeper and straight into the goalpost.

"And he makes no mistake!" Jim exclaimed as the winger quickly took off to the sidelines with both of his hands pointing upwards.

There was no way his teammates were going to let him be after scoring a goal like that, they were racing toward him now with Minino screaming at the top of his voice.

"Another magical link-up between Dave and Mateo and the winger did not disappoint," Steve commented. "He had some work to do there even with that wonderful pass from Dave and he did marvelously in getting away from them."

The away fans were jumping in the stands now while their voices were going up, they didn't think scoring this early could be achieved by their team in this match.

"Looks like Unique FC are the first to get on the score sheet, I wonder how Lyon will respond to this, they haven't had that much ball possession anyway."

The game had to resume after all the celebrations. Lyon knew they weren't up against any weak team now and that meant that things were about to start getting interesting.

[ System is back online ]

'I might not even need you in this match if we can just hold on to this lead and focus more on defense and I also just completed the assist part of the quest.'

<I doubt they'll let it end that easily, but you're right, you might not need the system in this match after all>

The match resumed with the referee's whistle and that was where Lyon's match domination started.

They held on to the ball lowering Unique FC's defense and they were also doing really well in getting the ball up front to create good chances.

However, dominating the game meant nothing without being able to find the back of the net.

The match stretched to the thirty-first minute without them being able to find the back of the net.

They tried everything they could try so far but Unique FC's defense were doing pretty well to stop them and maybe that was because defending was mostly what they had been doing after that goal from Mateo.

Dave's gloves had not known rest since that goal from Mateo, it was as if Lyon went full beast mode after that goal against them.

Their first chance after that goal came from a long-range shot which Duncan managed to pull off twenty-five yards away from the goalpost.

The midfielder sent the ball flying toward the top left side of the goalpost but Dave was able to get to it right in time to tip it over the bar for a corner kick.

The attacking midfielder managed to pull off another shot from outside the box a few minutes later.

This time it was from the edge of the box and he sent it flying toward the right side with just a little bit of elevation.

Dave was close to the area at that time and he had no problem catching it with both of his gloves.

That was just how they had been pulling off shots on top of shots toward the away team's goalpost and there were a few that would have gone because Dave was out of place at those moments but the defense came in clutch to stop them.

Thirty-five minutes on the clock now and Unique FC had been able to fire just three shots on goal and only one of those shots was on target and that shot on target was also the only goal of the game so far.

Unique FC were able to get the ball back after Adolf managed to thwart the opponent's attack by stopping the ball from getting to Mason.

He quickly sent the ball to Frankie who tried to link it up to Mateo from the top but maybe he should have played it slow to anyone close by.

The right-back managed to close up on the winger and get his head on the ball before he could do so and sent it flying to the defensive midfielder in the area who brought it down with his chest and sent it rolling to Antoine.

"Antoine."

The winger quickly took off down the wing with the ball and even managed to get past Roland but the wingback didn't back down and kept up with him to prevent him from sending the ball in.

The winger kept dragging the ball forward and just as he got it close to the line, Roland swept it off his foot and sent it rolling out for a corner kick.

"Good defending from Roland but now they have a corner kick to deal with."

Antoine picked the ball up and made his way to the corner spot without hesitation.

"I'm quite surprised Unique FC have been able to hold them off this long without conceding any goal, they just went bonkers after that goal from Mateo and Norman's boys haven't been able to see much of the ball." Jim articulated.

"Well, they have a chance now, their first corner kick was easily cleared but perhaps they could do something with this one." Steve commented.

Antoine was waiting for the referee's whistle now with everyone else running around inside and near the edges of the box.

It didn't take long before that high-pitched sound pierced through the air and as soon as the winger heard it, he quickly closed up on the ball and sent it flying into the box.

Placing the ball too close to the goalpost was always a mistake when Dave was the goalkeeper but this time, someone wasn't going to let the goalkeeper have it.

He dived toward the ball just at the same time as the goalkeeper dived out to grab it, and the both of them ended up crashing to the floor.

What followed next was the referee's whistle as the official quickly rushed to the area pointing at the penalty spot.

"Oh, it's a penalty but how?"

Unique FC players had to quickly gather around the referee now to get an explanation on how a foul happened there and he stated that his reason for making the call was Dave making contact with Mason just as the both of them went for the ball.

"But I touched the ball first and he was the one that ran into me." Dave retorted.

"Yeah, why don't you go check VAR?" Adolf suggested.

"And it looks like the referee is going to check VAR as there are doubts about what really happened there," Jim commented as the referee made his way to the VAR monitor.

'That wasn't a foul, right, Catherine?'

<Not really, but it does look like one so don't be surprised if the decision turns out to be against you>

'Hmm, I see, but I sure hope it isn't.'
