Chapter 436 Reminiscence

436  Reminiscence

Emma got home earlier than Dave just as expected but she didn't seem to be conscious at the moment.

It looked like she wasn't even able to remove her uniform as she could be seen lying on the couch with her bag on the table and soothing music playing in the background.

She lay there for a while without making any movement and the sound of her soft snoring being drowned out in the soothing music which was like a mix of soft ocean waves and the soothing sounds of the night.

It didn't take long before Devon walked into the house and it looked like he was about to say something until he found her fast asleep on the couch, the music told him everything he needed to know.

'She looked quite energetic back at the stadium.' He said subconsciously as he slowly made her way toward her.

<Well, it looks like she ended up draining all her energy or someone ended up draining it if you know what I mean>

'Yeah, I know what you mean.' He replied. 'Anyway, I think I should leave her be, and go take a shower.'

He slowly made his way upstairs with the thoughts of the tweet he just read before driving back still lingering in his mind.

He was really trying to not think about it but it just kept popping into his mind like an annoying fly.

<Seriously dude, stop thinking about that, they're just doing it for the engagement. Anyone reasonable enough to look into it properly will just watch the interview. But then again, there are a lot of senseless people on the internet>

'I know Catherine, I'm just wondering what Emma will do if she sees it, she did warn me not to say anything controversial on camera, I didn't really say anything bad but still.' He replied as he opened the door to his room and walked into it.

<Well, there's really no way for you to stop her from seeing it unless the algorithm decides not to show it to her but she'll still find out>

'Well, that's sad.'

It took him about thirty minutes to be done with everything he needed to do upstairs, and now that he was making his way downstairs, he expected Emma to have already woken up but it seemed like she was still fast asleep.

"Hmm, looks like you completely drained yourself today." He muttered before he slowly made his way to her and sat down beside her.

He slowly placed his left hand on her head before picking up the remote control to watch something but he made sure to turn down the volume just enough for it to somehow sync with the music like a TikTok edit that made absolutely no sense.

While he was still trying to find something to watch, he felt her head move under his hand, and after that followed a loud yawn before she raised both of her hands.

She did all this with her eyes closed, and by the time she opened them, she found him staring down at her.

"Oh, hey, when did you get back?" She asked with a hypnotic voice but the expression on her face was one of confusion.

"Oh, it's been almost an hour since I came back."

"Almost an hour?"

She was quite shocked to the extent that she had to quickly sit up on the couch, and that sleepiness in her voice was no longer there.

"Yeah," Dave replied with a nod before quickly turning her gaze back to the television.

"I've really been sleeping for that long?"

"Yeah, you know when you got back right? Just look at the clock?" He suggested before pointing toward the clock.

She followed his hands with her gaze to get them on the clock where she could see that it was already five minutes past five.

"Oh, what the heck?" She sighed before crashing down on the couch. "I don't know what happened but I just felt like a large portion of my strength was pulled out as soon as I walked into the house."

"Well, you are sharing some of that strength with him so I can see how that happened." He expressed before giving her stomach a little poke.

"Oh, yeah, him, I think he's starting to grow." She said before placing both of her hands on her stomach.

"Well, that is expected."

"Yeah." She replied before suddenly leaning toward him. "You smell really nice."

"You think?"

"No, I know." She said before slowly relaxing her head on his thigh.

There was a little moment of silence between the two before she suddenly said something.

"I'm really proud of you."

"Huh?" Dave reacted before looking down at her.

"I mean you were still struggling with a lot of things when I first met you, your form was bad and you weren't really doing that much to improve with almost everyone always making fun of you."

After listening to her say all that, he smiled before turning his gaze to the television.

"And you still agreed to date me."

"Well, I found out from Mateo that you were a really nice person and you always tried your best in training, you just lacked a lot of motivation but, he also told me that you argued with your father because he didn't want you to become a goalkeeper and you insisted on becoming.

"That's when I realized that you knew what it meant to fight for something, there was no way you were going to fail on a path you had to fight with your dad for, you just needed time to realize or maybe a push would be the right word."

<Yeah, a very huge push

"Hmm, so you did your assignment properly." He said before turning his gaze back to her.

"Yeah, isn't that what we're supposed to do before getting into a relationship with anyone?"

"Yeah, I guess you're right but I didn't really do much of that with you."

"Huh?"

"Well, Mateo was always nice and super helpful to me at the academy so that day when you showed up at our training and he told me you were his sister, I just sort of got attracted. I did get him to tell me about you and even some things he shouldn't have told me about."

"Ughh never mind, I promised him I wouldn't tell you about it, compared to how he is toward you now, he sounded really scared when he told me to keep it a promise, he said it just sort of fell out."

"Hmm, I see. Anyway, back to what I was saying, from that goalkeeper everybody made fun of to the goalkeeper who has the leads for the golden glove race for every competition you guys are still part of, it's really surprising how good you got in such a short amount of time, I haven't really given much thought to it."

"You played a big part in that, just know that."

After hearing him say that, she smiled before slowly turning her gaze away from him.

"Hey, I want to ask you about something?"

"What?"

"Since we now know the gender of the baby, what's your name suggestion?"

"Hmm, you know I've been thinking about that myself and I think I know the name I want to give him if you're okay."

"As long as it's not one of those weird names then why won't I be okay with it?"

"Okay, then how about we call him, Devon?"

"Oh, Devon, wasn't that your grandfather's name?"

"Yeah, I don't really remember meeting but what I was told, we would have been best friends, I still believe that he was the one that passed on this will to become a goalkeeper to me."

"Devon," Emma muttered with a smile. "If you want to call him Devon, then sure, let's call him that. I can't wait for the day Devon will come into this world."

"Me too." He mumbled before placing his hand on her stomach.
