Chapter 310 A Lot Of Guts

"Welcome to our viewers from all around the world, it's your regular commentator Jim Waterson and joining me here in the studio just like you all guessed is Mr. Steve Waterson." Jim expressed.

"Welcome everyone, it's really nice to be back here to talk about the match with Jim here as it goes on, I hope you all enjoy yourselves."

"They're definitely going to enjoy themselves as we have quite an interesting match-up here today," Jim said. "FC Basel versus Unique FC, a battle between two teams that happen to be in spectacular form so far this season."

The fans of both teams were making noise as the players lined up in front of the stadium.

After shaking hands with each other, the captains made their way to the referee for the coin toss.

FC Basel won the coin toss which meant that they chose the goalpost on the left and were going to be the ones to start the match from the kick-off spot.

"FC Basel are currently on top of the Swiss Super League table with only two points dropped from a draw so far this season, Unique FC on the other hand has dropped three points from a draw, this is going to be a tough match and it is sure going to be an interesting one." Jim expressed, he couldn't hold back the excitement in his voice.

The players from both teams had moved to their side of the pitch and all that was remaining now was for the referee to blow his whistle.

Norman was using his standard four-three-three C formation but instead of starting Martinez in the defensive midfield position, he put Frankie there.

The defense had Norman Kole on the right, Aima and Adolf as center backs and Roland in the left back position.

Frankie was the defensive midfielder and upfront in the attacking midfield position was Ferran and Minino.

The attack had Fredinho as the striker, Carlos on the right wing, and Mateo on the left wing.

Fred wasn't happy with being left out in a couple of matches this season and that was quite clear as he had a gloomy look on his face as he sat on the bench with his arms crossed.

Just like Unique FC, FC Basel were using the four-three-three formation, but they were using the B versions and that meant two defensive midfielders and one attacking midfielder.

The match was about to kick off now as the player with the name Henrique on top of the number ten on the back of his jersey and beside him was another player with the name Reto written above the number seven on the back of his jersey.

After making sure that everything and everyone was ready, the referee blew his whistle to start the match.

"There's the whistle and we are on the way," Jim said.

Henrique quickly pushed the ball back to Reto who quickly floated it over the top toward their striker who was heading toward the box now, but luckily for the guests, Adolf was right there to clear the danger with his head.

The striker had the name Hans written above the number nine on the back of his jersey.

"Basel tried a quick attack, but it's a good thing Unique FC have Adolf Alexis on their side," Jim said.

Mateo was able to recover the ball after that danger aversion from Adolf but he had put himself in a tricky situation to do that and he almost lost the ball before Ferran got closer to take it and without hesitation, he sent it back to Roland.

"FC Basel has lost the ball from that attempt and it doesn't look like Unique FC are going to give it back easily."

Unique FC players were perfectly linking with their passes and those neat passes were all they needed to keep the ball away from FC Basel while trying to figure out the best way to attack.

Mateo received the ball from Minino and just before the midfielder heading toward him could get to him, he pushed the ball to Ferran and quickly moved past the midfielder to receive the ball back from Ferran.

"Nice link up between Ferran and Mateo here," Jim said.

The winger quickly drifted toward the middle before passing the ball to Ferran once again and as soon as he did that, he quickly shifted back to the right and moved past the right back to receive the ball back from Ferran right at the edge of the box on the left.

The right-back caught hold of his shorts to try and pull him down, but that wasn't enough as the winger fired the ball toward the goalpost with his right foot.

"Ma..te..o!" Jim exclaimed as the youngster's effort hit the left post before rolling out for a goal kick. "Oh, it hit the woodwork."

"That was a brilliant combination between Mateo and Ferran there, that should have been in the back of the net," Steve commented.

"The match has just begun but Unique has already started heating things up, making the first goal attempt of the day." Jim expressed.

"These guys are better than expected, but I need to see what Dave Richards can really do," Filip muttered to himself before he sent the ball flying into the pitch.

Frankie contested for the ball with Reto and won it before quickly pushing the ball to Carlos who moved it back for Ferran to play Fredinho through with a through pass.

However, the attacking midfielder seemed to have overhit the ball as the center-back got to the ball, and out of pressure from the striker heading toward him, he sent the ball flying back toward Unique FC's goalpost.

This could have turned into a tricky situation but Adolf was there to nod the ball back to Dave preventing Henrique from getting hold of it.

"Another danger averted by Adolf, he's doing everything possible to make sure his team stays safe here," Jim said.

Dave had to move closer to the edge of his box to trap the ball with his foot instead of catching it with his hands like every other goalkeeper would do in that situation as Reto wasn't that far away from him.

Reto quickly rushed toward him to try and take the ball off him, but the goalkeeper was well aware of his environment as he quickly tipped the ball over to get past Reto before jumping over him to move it further down the pitch.

"That was quite risky from Dave, it takes a lot of guys for a goalkeeper to try something like that in front of his goalpost." Jim expressed.

"I guess Dave has a lot of guts."

"This is my chance." The goalkeeper muttered before he pushed the ball a little further and pulled back his right foot to send it flying toward the goalpost.

"He's trying the shot," Jim said in excitement.

"What's this?" Filip said as he quickly returned to his goal line before quickly jumping to try and stop the ball, but he wasn't able to get his hand on it as the ball hit the crossbar before flying out for a goal kick.

"Oh, the crossbar comes to the rescue, it's another woodwork save," Jim said as Dave bit his lower lip before folding both of his hands.

Filip was relieved as he lay inside his goalpost, but he had a confused expression on his face.

"How can a shot carry that much power?"
