Chapter 526 - Who would watch their princess suffer?

As soon as they got home, Wan Jia must have expected her daughter to be drunk. She had prepared a bowl of sobering soup. 

"Come, honey. Drink this sobering soup, we'll have a word later." 

Lu Meili obediently took the bowl and drank the soup. When she was done, she looked at her mother. 

Wan Jia took her hand and led her to her study. After making Lu Meili sit down, she brought out a file from a shelf and gave to her. 

Lu Meili took it and opened it curiously. "What's inside?" 

After seeing the printed bank checks, she was now completely sober. 

Wan Jia sat beside her. "This whole matter is a fight between Ruoxi and Katy. You are only the pawn used by Ruoxi to frame Katy." 

"What?" Lu Meili was dismayed. How could Ruoxi possibly do such a thing? For a woman like her, it was nothing significant for her to give away that amount of money for compensation fees. However, the fact that she was made to do this by her cousin was quite heartbreaking. 

"Mom, Sis Ruoxi really did this?" 

Wan Jia nodded. "Actually, it was hard for me to believe as well. I always thought Ruoxi was a nice girl." 

"You couldn't be wrong about it?" Lu Meili was still not able to believe it. How could Neil get anything wrong?

Wan Jia of course understood why she was finding it hard to believe. She took out her phone and showed Lu Meili a photo. "This is Neil, right?" 

Lu Meili was stunned. It was really him. What was he doing, holding hands with Ruoxi? 

"Do you believe it now?" 

"Yes." She bit her lip. She didn't want to believe that the friend she trusted so much and the cousin she loved were both traitors. How could they do this to Katy? 

Lu Meili threw herself into her mother's embrace, a small habit she had learnt to do when she was sad or confused. "I was very rude to Sis Katy tonight. I thought she had betrayed me." 

Wan Jia patted her back. "That's alright. Apologize to her tomorrow. If she understands your reason and forgives you, you will be friends again." 

"What if she's angry and doesn't listen to me?" 

"Then apologize again." 

Lu Meili felt better after learning the truth. Though it broke her heart so much that the friend she tresured had teamed up with someone else to lie to her. How could he do this? 

"Mom, I'll go to sleep now." She said after calming herself down. 

"Go ahead. Goodnight honey." 

"Goodnight mom." Lu Meili kissed her mother's cheek, then she opened the door to leave.

At this moment, Lu Aotian walked right in. Lu Meili felt her body go tense as soon as she saw him. 

Lu Aotian walked past her to Wan Jia. "Did you tell her?" 

Wan Jia did not intend to deny it. "I did." 

Lu Aotian cast a glance at his daughter, who knew to leave the both of them alone. 

"Why did you do it?" 

Wan Jia didn't know why he looked so mad at her. "I cannot know the truth and keep it from my daughter. I don't want people to bully her." 

Lu Aotian's lips twitched. "She is an adult. So what if she's bullied? Can't she deal with it on her own? Lu Meili swore to never ask for help from the Lu family. Are you a member of the Lu family or not?" 

Wan Jia crossed her arms at her chest and looked right at him. "She didn't ask for help. I told her the truth out of my own will." 

She closed her eyes to his annoyance. "Besides, my surname is not Lu." 

"But you are Mrs. Lu. You are still a member of the Lu family and shouldn't help her no matter what." 

Wan Jia felt wronged. "Aotian, how old was Little Li when she made that decision? She did swear that she will never ask for our help, but she was just a clueless little girl in her teens. How can you take the words of a teenager to heart?" 

"Just because a girl is young, she can rattle off such decisions as she pleases?"

"I didn't say that." She put a hand on his shoulder. "I know what you want. You want her to suffer in the entertainment industry and have no choice but ask you for help, then she will have to take over the company." 

Lu Aotian neither agreed to her claim nor denied it, proving her right. 

"Aotian, I care about the company as much as you do; and just like you, I know that Little Li would be the best option to take it over. She is  the most capable among our children after all. However, have you taken her happiness into consideration?" 

"You know better than anyone..." 

Wan Jia placed a finger on his lips, shutting him up. "Although it breaks your heart and you want to punish Neil and Ruoxi,  you are willing to let her suffer if it means forcing her into Lu enterprises? 

You are a good husband, the most perfect one there is. But I cannot say the same about the kind of father you are being right now." 

Aotian, I find your actions too immature of you."

Lu Aotian held her waist in a swish, looking into her eyes dangerously. "What did you just say?" 

Wan Jia tried to get away. Even after so many years, she still blushed when he was this overbearing to her. 

"You're being immature? But you really are."

"Not that." 

"What I said about you not being a perfect father? You really are not. Who would watch their most beloved princess suffer like you do?"
