Chapter 237

Name:Moon's Labyrinth Author:Hungry Panda
‘I guess I am destined to endlessly work in this lifetime.’

Just as Sungyoon had arrived at the standby location, a monster had appeared.

Sungyoon placed the brooch type Device on his shirt and ran out of the room.

He climbed up to the roof.

The helicopter’s rotor was already rapidly spinning and generating wind.

As Sungyoon reached the helicopter, a stranger ran up beside him.

He was the other Connector on standby.

Sungyoon glanced at him as he got on the helicopter.

“Where are we going?”

Sungyoon double-checked that he had all his Devices and Gems and asked.

The other Connector also checked his gears.

The pilot raised his voice so that he could be audible among the winds.

“We are going to the Chungcheong-do Province!”

“Chungcheong-do? Isn’t that beyond our jurisdiction?”

Sungyoon was in charge of guarding Seoul. At most, he would travel to the Gyeonggi-do Province, but Chungcheong-do Province was too far.

“It is a state of emergency right now! All the Connectors nearby are being brought in towards that province!”

The helicopter lifted into the air.

The surrounding landscape started to become small as they moved closer to the blue skies. Usually, he would look down at the scenery while he was being transported to the scene of the battle. It had become a small hobby of his. However, Sungyoon gave up on looking down on the scenery when he heard the pilot’s words.

“The demon type monster appeared in Chungcheong-do Province. It is trying to kidnap a 1st Gen Connector, and it is a mess there right now!”

***

Sungyoon quietly centered his heart.

It was the demon type monster that went after 1st Gen Connectors.

Sungyoon was probably the preeminent expert in regards to this monster on earth.

‘Its power is beyond comprehension.’

It complained about its reduced power yet, it could alter the terrain around itself with its power. The power of the monster was mind boggling.

Aside from its power, it possessed intelligence. In many ways, it didn’t fit the typical norm of what a monster should be like.

‘There is no way I can stop it by myself.’

Even if he used his full power, he would be lucky to last even a minute.

Also, there was the fear that occurred when one met it. It was a fear unique to the 1st Gen.

This was why Sungyoon might not be able to use his full strength in this upcoming fight.

‘Thankfully, the other Connectors will be there too.’

Since it was a state of emergency, all the nearby Connectors were converging on the monster.

They had even called in Sungyoon, who was stationed near Seoul. It meant the call to arms was very widespread.

‘A lot of Connectors will gather.’

If he fought with them, he might have a chance.

‘Also, that bastard basically has a time limit on its power.’

There was no reason to be afraid beforehand. The fight was inevitable, and he just had to put himself in the best position for victory.

“We are almost there.”

The pilot spoke. Sungyoon looked through the helicopter’s window to look below.

It was the prototypical farming village, and all he could see was rice paddies.

The water had been drained after harvest, so the ground had split to reveal muddy grounds. Then there were stacks of hay stacked all over the rice paddies.

However, the helicopter wasn’t heading towards the fields.

It was heading towards a location where several houses were gathered amongst the large fields.

Until not too long ago, the farming houses had bumpy roof tiles as a roof. Unlike the houses in the cities, these houses had a rustic feel to it.

It was a country village where farmers lived a peaceful life. However, it was swept up by flame right now.

Sungyoon opened the door to the helicopter. He stuck out his head to get a better look at the site.

Around 10 Connectors were on guard as they looked towards the burning house.

It seemed they had fought a very fierce battle. They weren’t in a good state.

Also, their opponent was the being within the burning building.

“Is that the demon type monster?”

The other Connector stuck his head out behind Sungyoon, and he gulped.

They were still a good distance away, yet the pressure being felt by them didn’t lessen.

There were several helicopters on the ground nearby. It was the helicopters that had transported the Connectors, who had already arrived.

“You’ll have to get off here.”

The pilot spoke. Sungyoon gave a retort.

“Isn’t there a bit more to go?”

“It is too dangerous. I was told to drop you off here, and wait a distance away.”

After the pilot spoke, he pointed downwards.

The eyes of Sungyoon and the other Connector followed the finger.

Sungyoon furrowed his brows.

In the open field, there was a crashed helicopter. It was surrounded by flames.

In fact, it wasn’t just one helicopter.

They had been smashed into pieces, so it was hard to tell how many had crashed. If one went by the number of rotors on the ground, at least three had crashed.

“After letting off the Connectors, four helicopters flew nearby to capture the footage of the battle. However, a fire whip suddenly appeared out of nowhere to take down four helicopters.”

“Did the pilots make it out alive?”

Sungyoon spoke with a bit of hope in his voice. However, only an uncomfortable silence was given as a reply.

Sungyoon didn’t ask any further questions. He provided magical energy to his Gems. In a flash, he wore his armor.

The Connector, who was with him, jumped in surprise.

Sungyoon’s Gem activation speed had caught him off guard. The other Connector quickly injected his magical energy into his Gems.

“I’ll get off now.”

“Please wait a moment. Let me lower the altitude for you.”

The helicopter was extremely high up.

Sungyoon looked at the other Connector, who was with him. He had put on his armor, and he nodded his head.

“It’s fine.”

Sungyoon didn’t hesitate. He was about to step out into the empty air when it happened.

Kwahhhhhng!

A loud explosive sound could be heard from the battle location.

Sungyoon, who had been about to jump out, turned to look at the source of the sound.

It was as if a volcano was erupting. A fierce flame had erupted from the demon type monster’s hands.

However, it wasn’t attacking the group of Connectors, whom Sungyoon was trying to join up.

Another group was approaching the demon type monster.

There were a total of six of them. The fire whip was swung towards them.

Sungyoon’s eyes widened when he saw the group.

The one running in front of the group looked like a black doll. It looked familiar.

‘Black armor?’

It was the group that had ambushed his group. It was the group that had gone missing after running away into the labyrinth. He was sure of it.

He saw the archer running behind the black armored man.

Glance!

The archer turned his head, and he met eyes with Sungyoon.

They were very far from each other, but Sungyoon was sure the archer had seen him. A distance of this magnitude wasn’t an impediment for a Connector’s eyesight.

The archer kept running, but he had brought us his bow. It seemed he was aiming for the helicopter, which Sungyoon was riding.

“Pull back more!”

Sungyoon yelled towards the pilot in desperation then he shot himself out of the helicopter.

The other Connector jumped out after him, and they could hear the helicopter quickly changing direction.

Ssssk.

As if a mirage was appearing, an arrow appeared when the archer pulled the bow string back.

The arrow was aiming for Sungyoon.

Toohng!

The arrow shook a little bit before the bowstring launched the arrow.

The calm arrow opened its mouth and it revealed its sharp teeth.

Hooong!

It let out a terrifying destructive sound as it flew through the air. Sungyoon raised his shield.

Kwahng!

“Kooooooohg!”

It didn't feel like an arrow. It felt as if he was hit by a missile.

It felt much stronger than the arrow that he had blocked on the moon. He became worried his shield might break.

Thankfully, the arrow could not penetrate through his shield. However, Sungyoon’s body was bounced backward from the force. Since he was in the air, he couldn’t decrease his speed.

Boom!

Sungyoon fell far away from his intended destination.

Sungyoon put strength into his legs as he watched the fire burn in the distance.

Too-hwahk!

Dirt flew into the air every time his feet pushed off. Sungyoon moved forward at an extraordinary speed.

He used his long strides to travel the distance. He jumped over the ridges between the rice paddies, and he stepped over the cut rice plants. He ran in a straight line towards the fire.

Boom!

One of the helicopters in the air blew up. It wasn’t caused by the flames of the demon type monster.

A small line had split through the air to impact on the helicopter. Sungyoon clearly saw it for himself.

He was sure the archer had shot an arrow.

Sungyoon’s face became distorted in a demonic manner.

All the helicopters started to retreat, yet the arrows continued to be shot towards the helicopters.

Boom! Boom!

Tw helicopters blew up. The rotor flew through the air, and the flaming wrecks of the two helicopters impacted on the rice paddies.

Sungyoon charged up the narrow road between the fields.

He could see the archer aiming his bow again. Sungyoon summoned his halberd, and he reversed his grip on it.

Boom!

Each step was heavy. The force that traveled up his feet was used alongside the elasticity of his body to send the halberd flying.

Shoooohk!

The halberd flew in a straight line. The archer, who had been about to unleash another arrow, flinched.

Boom!

He raised his shield to block the halberd.

Despite the massive amount of power behind the throw, the archer easily deflected the halberd.

As if to show that Sungyoon’s attack was nothing, he brushed off his shield before he pointed the bow towards Sungyoon.

It happened at that moment.

Puhhhhhhng!

An enormous flame erupted behind the archer.

The archer looked backwards. He shook his head several times as if he was unsatisfied. Then he turned his back on Sungyoon. He started running towards the direction where the flame had erupted.

Sungyoon unsummoned his halberd as he stared at the back of the archer.

Soon, he also ran towards the direction where the flame had erupted.

***

The heat was high, and the black smoke covered the sky. It created a dreary atmosphere.

Sungyoon ran at full speed, and he arrived at the location where his fellow Connectors were present. However, they didn’t have the time to exchange any pleasantries.

“What the hell is that?”

He had mumbled his words without realizing it.

He had seen it from afar, but it took him aback when he saw it up close. There was a battle occurring in front of him.

However, it wasn’t a battle between the dispatched Connectors and the demon type monster. His assumption had been wrong.

‘What an intense fight.’

He wasn’t talking about the dispatched Connectors.

On the battlefield, the ambushers and the demon type monster were fighting each other as they razed the land around them.

What relationship did the two groups have?

Did the ambushers decide the monsters, which had appeared on earth, had to be destroyed?

Or was there some unknown reason that Sungyoon didn’t know about?

‘Also, their power...’

Sungyoon lowered his shield.

He still remembered the numbing sensation when he blocked the attacks from the ambushers.

When he last fought them on the moon, he remembered their power wasn’t this strong. They had clearly gotten stronger.

‘No. Their power did not increase. I got weaker.’

He now knew the reason behind the power disparity. A Connector’s power lessened on earth when compared to the moon.

‘It means the ambushers can use the exact same power on the moon and the earth.’

This might be the reason why the six ambushers could fight on equal ground with the demon type monster.

‘Huh?’

Sungyoon was mulling over this puzzle when he caught sight of something.

There was someone fallen behind the demon type monster.

It was probably the 1st Gen Connector, who was attacked by the monster.

Sungyoon saw an arrow fly towards him.

The archer had joined up with his party, and he had shot an arrow.

However, the arrow didn't fly towards the monster. It flew towards the fallen 1st Gen.

Ooh-jeek!

The demon type monster punched the arrow out of the air. Then it used its flame sword to attack the ambushers.

‘The ambushers aimed for the 1st Gen Connector, and the demon type monster protected him?’

It was as if his thoughts fell into a labyrinth. Sungyoon’s thought became tangled in a complicated manner..
