Chapter 737 The Offer



Max walked up to Regus's office in Ixtal with a smug smile on his face.

The war had changed everything.

Before the war, with the bigger threat of the dark faction always looming around, the light faction monarchs would never dare squabble internally, but that situation had now changed.

The light faction politics had become more prominent and Regus Aurelius was clearly unpopular.

If he had chosen to ally with Max instead of making an enemy out of him, he could have enjoyed a majority support in the council and easily secured benefits for his Monarchy, but his decision to imprison Max had cost him heavily.

As a King, he was not answerable to anyone which meant that nobody would find out that the Vampire Society lost out on benefits because their King was a douchebag, but it was sure to sting Regus everytime he was alone with his thoughts.

As Max was escorted into his office, Regus stared straight into his eyes with an expressionless face but Max looked straight back with a stupid smile on his face.

" My king.... " Max said, mockingly as the Aurelius clan guards tried to pull a fast one on him by forcing him to kneel by kicking at his knee cap from his rear.

Unfortunately for them, just like his brother, Max too remained unmoving and their attempts to force him to kneel remained futile.

" That's enough, leave us alone " Regus commanded as the guards bowed politely to the vampire king and left him alone.

" I've just returned from the council of monarchs and I have a lot of work to do- .

New territories to distribute amongst the clans, make a summary of the changes that are doing to be implemented in the universe...

Important things basically,

Things much more important than you- " Regus said as he tried to play cool in front of Max and act like everything went well in the council.

It was a bluff, but Regus's regal aura coupled with his years of experience as a politician made this bluff all the more believable.

Theoretically it should have been a bluff that should have worked on Max since within the prison he was sure to have been cut off from the rest of the universe, yet unfortunately for Regus, Max did not fall for it.

" I'm sure the monarch has more efficient use for his time, I'll take my leave and tell the guards to escort me back to the dungeon then " Max said with the stupid smile still brightly plastered on his face.

Regus, who understood that Max was making a mockery of him, immediately flared up his tier8 aura as this time around Max keeled over on his knees as an oppressive aura suppressed his very being.

" Don't make a mockery of me, boy " Regus said with anger clearly flaring in his voice, yet Max chuckled under Regus's oppressive aura, this time audibly at that.

" Hahahaha... " Max laughed as he struggled back to his feet and despite Regus's best effort glared him straight back in his eyes.

" Are you bullying me, my king? " Max asked as for a second Regus's aura wavered, his pupils dilated as the scene of three monarchs losing their lives within minutes flashed in his eyes.

' Don't you dare bully my brother ' Shakuni had said before he left the universe and it was a message that haunted Regus day and night.

" Your brother has been denied re-entry in the universe, it was one of the resolutions I helped pass at the council, so don't threaten me in his name " Regus said as he tried to intimidate Max into thinking that his greatest backer had been taken out of the equation, but Max only chuckled at this attempt as he said

" Sure, you make it sound like a new thing but my brother was banned when he swooped in and killed Lucifer and there wasn't a damn thing that the queen could do about it " Max retorted right back as Regus winced slightly, his usually expressionless face giving away his true emotions.

There was a stalemate following this conversation as Regus seriously contemplated the consequences of killing Max right here and now.

From Max's demeanour it was clear to Regus that whatever facade of respect and obedience the boy was previously adhering to, it had been stripped away, as now, he was brazen while even talking to his king.

This was an enemy of the state in the making and Regus still felt that his hands were tied dealing with him.

If he died, there would be war between the Elites and the Vampire Society and without Max having a public trial, Regus would face immense scrutiny from even his closest allies who would be reluctant to join the said war.

The Elites aside, there would still always be a looming threat of Shakuni looming over his head as there was no saying what that mentally unstable human could do.

Hence despite his intense desire to kill the boy right where he stood, Regus's hands were tied.

" So what did you really summon me here for? " Max asked as he smugly crossed his hands and taunted Regus's anger even more.

Regus's breathing became so laborious at this point that he was visibly on the edge of reigning in his anger, but after a few moments passed he managed to calm down enough to speak coherent words.

" I will let you go today boy, I will let you be a free man.

I will not discriminate against the Bloodfall clan and give them everything they deserve.

I will take into consideration all the meritorious deeds you performed in the war and decorate you as a war hero unlike any other.

I will discredit all claims calling you a primordial vampire, I'll paint it as a hoax of the demons and pay reparations for any damage to your reputation.

I will let your influence within the Vampire Society spread as far and wide as you can imagine, hell, I'll even make you our Foreign Affairs Minister answerable only to me.

I will do all that and more for you-
