Chapter 238 CH 232: I DON'T WANT TO

The sudden question of Elysia lingered in the air but Adam showed no particular surprise,

"You do not seem particularly surprised."

"Well, I thought this was a possibility. So no, I am not surprised."

"Heh. Well, indeed so. I already know your answer but the elders wanted me to ask anyway so let's me do the speech."

She put another cube of sugar in her coffee and Adam was starting to wonder if all this shit was healthy. Clearly, she noticed the wonder in his eyes and offered an explanation.

"Oh. Do not worry. Thanks to the Holy power, my body will always be in the most perfect shape. For a long time. Taking weight is impossible for me. Much less falling sick."

"And like this you suddenly became the number one enemy of all the women in the world."

"Fufufu~I ate like this many times in front of the other nuns. So understand what you mean."

She laughed lightly. She knew that her mood was light because of whatever power was in Adam's voice but she was not angry. This kind of power was clearly a passive skill and usually she was the one charming people without trying to.

"So, where was I?" She added a cube again and nodded,

"Yes, the Sale pitch. *Ahem* So, Joining the church as a holy knight is good."

"..."

"..."

"Is that it?"

"Pretty much."

She shrugged, "Those elders like bringing things like joining will open the gate of Heaven for you, giving all your money is the right way. This is for the good of the world. Etc and etc. But at the end of the 80% of this is bullshit."

She drank her coffee and calmed her mind, "A large part of the church is filled with what I could call good people. People who actually believe in good and wish for the good of the world. But like in any group, there is always a small minority that makes the whole group seems bad. Sadly, this minority is generality in the position of power or influence."

The church did good for the world. But many humans used religion as a simple way to use and manipulate poor people who only wished for salvation. This was why there were so many shady cults.

"By joining as a Holy Knight, this means accepting to be mixed in all the shady politics and the dark side of the church. Sadly, few knights who saw the dirt hidden beneath the luxurious exterior managed to keep their faith."

"And yet you did."

She nodded, "My faith will never waver because of this darkness. After all, I never had any illusions that the church was clean. No human is perfect and even in the most gentle humans, there is a part of Darkness that can never be erased. This becomes more evident when you go from individual to organizations."

The greater the light, the larger the shadow. Pure Evil and Pure Good could never exist as even devils could feel compassion and even the gods could be capable of the cruelest actions.

If not even beings who could create or destroys worlds were perfect then how could humans be so?

This was something Mother Anastasia had never wished to accept and when the church failed to upload the ideal in her mind, she simply left.

Elysia could not do the same. Nor did she wish to, for she knew that she would never find a world of pure light in the mortal world.

This was because of this mindset that she held so much power in the church and was able to do things her sisters would never be able to. The higher up understood that she knew the game and was willing to play it.

"So, Dear benefactor…"

"Call me Adam. I will call you Elysia to make things simpler."

"Oh my…You are indeed quite bold."

"I proposed this as I believe it will be more comfortable for us. What do you think?"

"I thought you would say this because you are uncomfortable talking politely to a girl younger than you."

Adam looked at her incredulously, "Does age even matter in our world pass a certain point?"

He had seen beings who were as old as the earth itself. If the myth of creation as described was exact then Eve was basically 4.5 billion years old and since she lived in the library where months were only equal to a few hours on earth then she should be more than a thousand times older than that.

After meeting such an entity, Adam would never base his respect on someone simply based on age.

"Very well, Adam. After my beautiful sale pitch. Will you join the holy knights?"

"Well, it seems like I will have to refuse."

"Oh…What a shame… I would have never seen this coming."

"You should work on your expression. Your acting is awful."

"Who says that my awful acting isn't acting in itself?"

Adam chuckled feeling himself relaxed as the conversation between the two of them continued. He had to admit that after all those talks with supernatural beings who were unfathomably old beings, this one was pretty good.

He also consciously ignored the fact that she had an angel in her body.

"Well, now that we know that you will not join the church, let's talk about the reward."

She stood up and walked to the closet before taking what looked like a small dagger.

"This is a holy sword. Honestly, the quality itself is pretty good. Even though this is more of a ceremonial weapon. It is not inferior to a weapon made for slaughter."

The dagger was very beautiful. The sheath was golden and incrusted with red and blue jewels that clearly looked quite expensive. The hilt was in the form of a cross with a red jewel incrusted at the top and each of the two arms

Taking out the dagger from its sheath, he could his face reflect clearly on the blade. It was as if he was looking at himself through a mirror.

This was truly a beautiful weapon.
