Chapter 8

Chapter 2 — Emergency! How to Survive Having a Villainous Husband.

It seemed that God had listened to my prayers.

Even though I was still angry that he pushed me into this situation, I’d still praise him today. The weather had been unusual since dawn, and it was raining so heavily in the morning that I didn’t have to pretend to be sick. It was so harsh that I was afraid the mansion would be washed away!

Since I had successfully passed Saturday, I could pretend to be sick on Sunday though it turned out that I didn’t have to. Even if the rain stopped now, the wet road would make it difficult for carriages to move.

Furthermore, if he dug the ground to bury me, the soil would be damp, making it difficult so there was no way it didn’t rain on the place he would bury me.

Haha.

I wanted to laugh out loud even though Noah was next to me. On the other hand, he didn’t seem to like the weather very much. He seemed like someone who was annoyed because his plans were ruined.

When I called him, he turned around with a scary expression.

“It’s a pity that it’s raining. If it hadn’t rained, we would have gone out.”

Anyway, because of the rain, I drank Noah’s tea instead of going outside. To be honest, I thought anything would taste sweet today, even if I drank the rainwater.

“That’s all right. We could go another day. We have many days anyway.”

“….”

…Another day? Many days of what? Absolutely not!

“By the way, where are we going? You kept me waiting for the weekend.”

I glanced at Noah, who was sitting next to me, as I asked that. Yes, I thought I should ask. What would he say with those lips?

Meanwhile, Noah held my hand with his long fingers as he smiled softly before kissing the back of my hand.

“You need to see it yourself.”

“Haha, where is it? It must be a good place, then?”

My fingertips trembled even if I tried not to, and I gently pulled out the hand I would normally hold so he wouldn’t notice.

“Maybe it’s a place you’ve never been to.”

A place I’ve never been to…? Well, that didn’t mean heaven, did it?

My hand was held again when I clenched my fist. Although his hold didn’t hurt at all, I was sweating, afraid of what he wanted to do.

Whenever Noah kissed my fingertips, I naturally flinched and shook.

If it were truly a gift or a date, he would have given me some hints though he seemed to have no intention of talking.

In any case, it wouldn’t be just yesterday. He was also determined to get something done today, so he was probably trying to kill me in the way he liked the most while looking for a chance. It could be tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

Maybe I need to use another method next time.

Not only did I have to run away from him, but I also needed to divorce him to be completely free. Even though this love was fake, I didn’t want these memories of a happy love life and a year of marriage to be ruined, so I wanted to end it without Noah realizing until the end…

Hence, I had to think really hard since I had to do it in a way that I could get away from him at once.

I was even thinking of seeking refuge as a last resort since it would be okay to stay away for a while. If I disappeared, when would he start moving without instructing his men? A day, two, or three? A week or more…?

While I didn’t care if his men chased me because I could do mind manipulation, the moment he stepped in, I was useless.

Should I go back to the capital to test it?

If I suddenly went to another area without a connection, my action might’ve been suspicious. I’d always shown him that I was a stable person. Then, the peaceful ending between us… would it come true?

…There were a lot of things that I didn’t want to do but should.

Anyway, in order to run away safely, I should first reduce the time I spend with him a little.

When I go to work, first of all, I need to move the money quickly without Noah knowing. Since this was Kairos Hadid’s territory, I needed to have the most reliable people around me. I had lived with the belief that I only go my way, but if I look for it, there may be someone who shared my beliefs.

‘But, who’s reliable…’

“Ah!”

I couldn’t help but exclaim as I covered my mouth. I shouldn’t keep doing this anymore.

“What’s the matter, Hazel?”

“Oh, nothing. I was just surprised.”

“Surprised?”

Kairos or Noah asked with a slight smile, his cheek resting against my palm.

“These days, I think you’re thinking about someone else other than me. Why?”

At those words, goosebumps crept up on my back as I caught a glimpse of his red gaze in the corner of my eyes.

“Oh, I’m not. That’s impossible. I only saw you every day anyway.”

I used Noah’s favourite smile.

“Then, right now?”

“Now?”

I tried hard not to act suspiciously in front of him as much as possible.

“Yes. I’m always thinking of you, I’m a little disappointed that my wife doesn’t seem to be doing the same.”

“Ahaha, what nonsense. I’m always thinking about Noah. I just remembered the meal and pumpkin pie I had last night. Mm! It was really good. That’s something Noah made for me, too.”

He must be wondering if I was thinking about someone else. It was because he usually looked like this whenever I said I wanted to eat something or that his food was delicious. Was it the witch’s expression when she tried to fatten up Hansel and Gretel?

It was not that I didn’t understand Noah.

When we were together, I usually talked while looking at him sweetly as if honey had dripped from my eyes. Usually, it was me who asked what he was thinking when he was zoning out. Of course, it wasn’t that bad… because I was so in love and didn’t know any better!

“Don’t have other thoughts and just look at me, okay? At least while we’re together.”

….How could he be so sweet when what he meant was he didn’t want me to get out of his grasp?

The fragrant aroma of the tea became bitter.

* * *

That evening, Kairos left Hazel, who fell asleep a little earlier than usual, behind. After he came to the office to deal with the rest of the work, he handed over the documents reported until today and was lost in thought.

Recently, Hazel’s actions have been suspicious. Even though she used to smile brightly, these days, she was often surprised. In addition, whenever their eyes met, she would pretend to face the other way.

…Did something happen?

There was nothing special in the reports.

Was she thinking of someone else? If that was it, he should clean everything around her so such a thing wouldn’t happen.

“Oh.”

He looked through the list of anniversaries, such as the 10th and 22nd day of each month, the 50th and 100th day of engagement, and the wedding day. They were all written down to be celebrated.

Maybe she was preparing a wedding anniversary present…?

Well, that made sense according to Hazel’s usual behavior. She did the same on his birthday, so what kind of cute gift was she trying so hard to prepare this time?

As he thought so, the bad feeling was gone in an instant, and his nice lips curved happily.

“Then, I’ll have to pretend I don’t know anything.”

That was all he needed to do. Sitting with his back resting on a chair, Kairos took out a document from the inside of the drawer.

“Hmm.”

It had been a year since he received the documents containing Hazel’s personal information and ideal type. When he first read this document, he smiled.

* * *

“Here it is, sir.”

A man uttered as he handed over a bunch of paper to Kairos’ hand.

“Name Hazel Love, 23 years old, gender… female.”

Leaning his chin on his thumb, he murmured and slowly brushed his lips with his index finger.

“Doesn’t have a family… she was born in the capital and had been living there.”

“Yes, that’s right. I think she could easily be gotten rid of because she doesn’t have a family. It would be easy.”

Sid, Kairos’ direct subordinate, spoke with a shrug.

“164cm tall and 44kg… wouldn’t she fly away easily? Tsk, it will be easy.”

He shook her head, wondering if it was possible for her to fly away.

He initially looked down on her. However, upon graduation, she joined the Imperial Knights and managed to successfully do a hundred subjugation in her career as the White Dragon Knight. Her target-type spell always succeeded, and she was good at using a wide range of techniques.

“…I thought she was only a little girl. It seems like I shouldn’t look down on her.”

In fact, he didn’t have to worry too much because her magic didn’t work for him. They said her target-type spell had never failed, so if a woman who had never failed tried but failed to use it on him, it might be amusing.

Kairos continued to read.

Currently, she moved to Ferrarium after resigning. Since then, it was written that she had been running a mercenary guild and was expanding it slowly with minimal funding.

He smiled eerily.

The source of the funds must be from him since she took his money and made a lot of money in the countryside. As he laughed and turned it over to the back page, Kairos, who had been reading for a long time, stopped at some point.

“Her ideal type is tall and has broad shoulders like the Pacific Ocean… What’s the Pacific Ocean?”

“I don’t know. Maybe it’s something very wide…?”

As Kairos frowned, Sid who was used to military discipline, had his hand on his back.

“Oh well… so during the day, he must be kind, gentle, and well-mannered. At night, he had to be as nice but also wild and beastly… what? Is this amount of obsession okay? What kind of person is like that? Shouldn’t she rather avoid them?”

“So, her ideal type is someone duplicitous? It seems like she has a unique taste that’s different from ordinary people. She’s a woman with guts, that must be why her taste is weird. Do you have anything else? Or should I find out if that’s the kind of ideal type that is popular these days?”
