Chapter 60 Unexpected Confrontation.

Nathan's heart was pounding with anticipation as they sped down the street in the black SUV, flanked by two more cars for protection. Sophia sat next to him, her eyes fixed on the road ahead.

As they were driving, Nathan couldn't help but feel anxious. He was so close to finding out what happened to his best friend, and he didn't want anything to go wrong. May noticed his unease and placed her hand on his thigh to give him comfort.

Meanwhile, Sophia continued to share her suspicions about Debbie. "I heard from a friend that Debbie had some connections to a dangerous group in the city. They might have something to do with Vincent's disappearance," she explained.

"Let's not jump to conclusions," May spoke with a firm tone. She was not a fan of suspecting others without evidence.

SCREECHING TIRES

But their peaceful ride was abruptly interrupted as five black vans blocked their path, and armed men in full combat armor jumped out of the vehicles, brandishing M4A1 rifles and firing them without hesitation.

The sound of gunfire echoed through the city streets as civilians ran for cover, some not quick enough to dodge the stray bullets flying in every direction. Glass shattered, metal clanged, and screams filled the air as the intense battle raged on.

Blood pooled on the pavement as the bodies of the unfortunate littered the streets. Screams of pain and terror filled the air, mixing with the sound of gunshots. Limbs were blown off, eyes gouged out, and flesh shredded apart by bullets.

Nathan's bodyguards did not stay idle either as they sprang into action, pulling out their own weapons and returning fire, using the bulletproof car as a shield.

"What the hell is going on? Who are these guys?" Nathan demanded, trying to peer through the tinted windows.

Screeeeeeeeeeech !

Suddenly, the screeching sound of metal colliding with metal pierced through the chaos, followed by a loud crash. He turned his head to see one of the bodyguard's cars ramming into one of the vans, trying to create a path for them to escape.

But just as they thought they had a chance to flee, another van came barreling towards them, crashing into the back of their own SUV and causing it to spin out of control. Nathan could feel his body slamming into the car door, and he struggled to stay conscious as the world around him went dark for a moment.

Crash!

Boom!

Thud!

The car was turned upside down , and he knew they had to get out fast. He quickly unbuckled his seatbelt and helped May out of the car, while Sophia scrambled out from the backseat. The driver , who had been knocked unconscious, was still slumped in his seat.

"Is everyone okay?" Nathan asked, looking around at his companions. Despite the terrifying crash, they all seemed to have escaped without any major injuries thanks to the armored material that covered the car.

"We're okay," May replied, her voice shaking slightly.

"We need to get out of here before whoever did this shoots us,"  He glanced at the wreckage of the car and sighed.

"Cover us " He ordered his bodyguards to create a diversion while they made a run for it. As the bodyguards continued to exchange gunfire with the attackers, They jumped out of the car and bolted towards a nearby alley.

With bullets flying past them, Nathan grabbed May's hand tightly, pulling her along as they ran. Sophia trailed close behind, her heart pounding with fear.

Once they reached the relative safety of the narrow alleyway, they huddled behind a dumpster, their breathing heavy and labored. Nathan quickly assessed their situation and took out his phone to call for backup.

As they waited for help to arrive, Sophia spoke up, her voice trembling with adrenaline. "Who were those guys? Why are they after us?"

Nathan took a deep breath and tried to suppress the panic rising within him. He knew that the situation was dire, and his mind was racing with thoughts of who could be behind the attack and why. But he knew that he needed to stay focused on their safety.

"I don't know who they are or what they want, but our priority now is to secure our safety first," he said, his voice steady despite the chaos unfolding around them.

May looked at him, her eyes wide with fear, but she nodded in agreement. Sophia also seemed to understand the urgency of the situation and followed Nathan's lead.

But as they remained hidden, they heard the sound of footsteps getting nearer. Nathan turned around and saw the 5 black-clad gunmen closing in on them.

"We need to split up! I think I'm there target " he whispered to the others, hoping to give them a better chance of survival. May hesitated for a moment, fear etched on her face.

But Nathan grabbed her shoulders and gave her a reassuring nod, urging her to go with Sophia.

"I'm here! " he screamed.

The two women sprinted in one direction while Nathan went the other way. He knew he had to draw the gunmen's attention away from them if they had any chance of making it out alive. He could hear the sound of bullets whizzing past his head as he ran, his heart pounding in his chest. He spotted another small alleyway and dove inside, hoping to hide and catch his breath. But the gunmen weren't far behind. They entered the alleyway, their weapons at the ready. Nathan knew he was trapped. He closed his eyes and braced himself for the worst.

"Ne dvigat'sya! (Dont move!) " One of the attacker spoke in Russian .

"Why the hell are you doing this?" Nathan demanded, his heart pounding with fear and frustration. He knew that no matter how brave he was, he could never be prepared for the sight of a gun pointed at his head.

"For money, of course. And because someone hired us to take care of little problem - namely you," the man replied with a thick Russian accent, chuckling in contempt.

Nathan's mind raced as he tried to figure out who would want him dead. He had always been careful with his wealth and made sure not to step on anyone's toes. But now, it seemed that someone had a grudge against him.
