Chapter 8 - Scammed Into Buying Cakes

Li Qin Yao grabbed a wooden spoon in front of her and tapped it on her friend's head softly. "Why do you keep asking about every guy I run to? Is this how a married woman should behave? And to think that you already have a kid." she shook her head dramatically.

Yin Mei Xuan was married and had an adorable son. Li Qin Yao met Mei Xuan almost a year ago when she joined a short baking course. They hit it off instantly become friends.

Li Qin Yao did not have many close friends. After Han Yue Xiu, who she had known from her childhood, Mei Xuan is the only person she could get close to.

When Li Qin Yao decided to open up the cafe months ago, Mei Xuan offered her help. With her husband's work and income, Mei Xuan didn't really need to work. But her son spent his time in school and she was too bored to stay home.

Yin Mei Xuan rubbed her head and looked at her friend, feeling wronged. "You. Obviously, I'm asking for you."

"You don't need to be concern about my love life," Li Qin Yao said. "You know that I'm already seeing someone."

Mei Xuan waved her hand. "It doesn't matter. I'm a curious person." She took the wooden spoon and put it farther away from Li Qin Yao before she spoke. "So? How is he? Good looking?"

Li Qin Yao looked at her friend helplessly. She decided to ignore her friend but found herself answering her question anyway. "Whether he's good looking or not, it depends on the eye of the beholder, isn't it? I may think he's good looking, but you might think he's ordinary."

Mei Xuan giggled at her answer. "So, you do think he's good looking!"

Li Qin Yao narrowed her eyes and tried to reach for the wooden spoon. But before she could act, Mei Xuan retreated with a playful smile on her face. "Boss! Don't get mad. I'll get back to work."

Soon, the cafe was open for business. As minutes passed by, the shop slowly filled with customers. Li Qin Yao headed to the dining area and stood behind the counter, taking orders and dealing with check out and payments.

A smile never left her lips as she entertained her customers until a familiar face walked in.

The smile on Li Qin Yao's face froze as she watched the man walked forward. The man looked around the shop and smiled when he saw her stood behind the counter.

Li Qin Yao never expected that she would see her cousin, Li Mu Bai, in her shop. She took a deep breath and forced a smile when he stood before her. "Welcome to Cafe Lilium." she greeted. "What can I get you?"

Li Mu Bai felt the corner of his mouth twitched at her hospitality. "We need to talk."

Li Qin Yao maintained a smile as she spoke again. "This mister here, if you are not going to order some food or beverages, I will have to ask you to turn away. There are still people queuing behind you."

Li Mu Bai chuckled as he did not believe her words. He turned around and was surprised to see a man watching him impatiently. He scowled at the man behind him and turned to his cousin.

"Sir? Are you buying it or not?"

He glanced at the menu on the back and ordered for a cup of coffee.

"Okay. A cup of coffee and three slices of strawberry cakes." Li Qin Yao keyed in the order.

His expression darkened. "I did not order for three slices of strawberry cheesecake."

Li Qin Yao leaned forward as she spoke with a low tone. "Didn't you say that you need to talk to me?" She straightened up her pose and smiled charmingly. "So... three slices of strawberry cheesecake?"

Li Mu Bai heaved a sigh as he nodded. "Fine. Wrap up the strawberry cheesecake for me."

She snapped her fingers. "Good choice, sir!"

He took out his wallet and paid. Then he watched at his cousin with a dubious gaze, wondering if the girl was telling him lies.

"I will find you once I'm a bit free," Li Qin Yao said.

Only then did he pick up a spot next glass window to wait. Soon, a waitress came to deliver his order. He took a sip from his coffee as he waited for his cousin to finish attending the cashier. His gaze fell on the paper bag on the table. How did he got scammed into buying cakes?

After almost an hour of waiting, Li Qin Yao sat down across of him. Li Mu Bai had a hunched that she intentionally let him wait for a long time, just to see if he would give up on waiting.

"President Li. Shouldn't you be in the office and making a lot of money? Why are you here?" Li Qin Yao said as she slid into an empty seat.
