Chapter 2 - Escape This Blind Date

Li Qin Yao took a sip from her drink to clear her throat. "What happened? Didn't you said he let you leave early today since you'll be going on a business trip tomorrow?"

Yue Xiu sighed on the other line. "Suddenly he thought that the proposal isn't good enough and he wanted to redo until everything is perfect. Everyone else and I are stranded here until we finish this proposal. I'm not sure when I can come out of this building."

Li Qin Yao could almost imagine the pout on Yue Xiu's face right now.

Speaking about Yue Xiu's boss, this is not the first time that he had to pull something like this on her. Once, she thought that maybe Yue Xiu's boss was holding her back to spend more time with her cousin, but Yue Xiu quickly shot down her idea.

According to Yue Xiu, there was no way that someone as cold and expressionless as her boss would be interested in anyone but work.

"It's fine," Li Qin Yao said. "But dinner will be on you the next time we meet, alright?" She had a small chat with Yue Xiu before she hung up and placed her phone on the table just beside the piling sushi plates. She continued her meal and decided to spend five more minutes in the restaurant before she pays her bills and leaves.

As she was making her plan in her mind, Li Qin Yao heard a ringing coming from beside her.

Li Qin Yao caught a quick glimpse of the man's side profile when he turned around to fetch his mobile phone from his backpack. She took the cup of green tea and drained its content before the man could label her like a creep for staring at him.

"Yes. Hello?"

Her ears perked up again. He lowered his voice to be polite to his blind date, but his deep voice was making her hair stand. Subconsciously, she rubbed the back of her neck to calm down.

Something must be wrong with her. How can a person's voice influence her this much?

"Can I call you back?" he distanced his phone from his ear and paused when he heard the other person called his name. Then, he listened to the person on the other line quietly.

Li Qin Yao glanced at the couple beside her casually. In that fleeting second, and turned around before his eyes met up with hers. Her heart pounded at the thrill of listening to his conversation.

No! She was not trying to listen to his conversation. She merely liked to hear to his deep, rich voice!

Li Qin Yao could imagine how it would be to hear the man talked while she listened with her eyes shut. She liked the sound of his voice that much.

The only other person who had the same kind of voice that she knew and liked was the lead singer of TIME. She remembered the last time the male artist acted in a romance drama, and he had to say 'I like you' to the female lead.

At that time, Li Qin Yao swore that her heart melted at hearing his voice.

Li Qin Yao shook her head as she tried to clear her mind. A part of her felt guilty for her action. She could only hope that the two-person beside her would not notice her movement.

Then, Qin Yao heard the man beside her said, "Alright. I'll be there soon."

Soon, he hung up and placed his phone gently on the table. "I'm sorry. That was my sister," he informed.

"You have a sister?" the woman smiled. "Tell me about your family."

He hesitated for a few seconds. "I would love to, but. I'm sorry. I have to go now. My sister called to tell me that there's an emergency and—"

Li Qin Yao accidentally let out a chuckle at his excuse. Isn't this is the classic method to escape an unwanted blind date? She didn't expect that she was able to witness it!

Wait! What if this man planned to have someone give him a call at this time to escape this blind date?

Feeling the man beside him turned to look at her, she coughed a few times and drank her tea, but found that her cup was already empty. There was nothing she could do but to continue pretending.

"It's fine," the girl said, dejected. "We can do this next time."

The man turned to grab his backpack and heaved a sigh. "Rain check?"

"Sure."

Li Qin Yao looked away, pretending to pick up some unagi sushi from the conveyor belt when he pushed the chair behind him to stand up. She watched the man paid his bills and headed out with the corner of her eyes.

That was a blind date, and they did not exchange their contact numbers before they parted.

Li Qin Yao wondered if the two had exchanged their contact before this, or did the man successfully executed his plan to escape his blind date.

Anyhow, it was not her problem.

She picked up her phone from the table to leave and realized that something was off. She was holding the same phone model and the same color, but the phone in her hand was not hers!
