Chapter 269: Kody 2

''You…''

''It feels real now, right?'' he said and put his arm around her, ''I missed you so much Jenny''

''I missed you too'' she smiled and they looked at each other and shook their heads. It still felt like yesterday since they last saw each other.

While on the way, they started catching up on each other's lives and the things that they did currently.

Kody explained his reason for suddenly returning. He had quit his job as a photography for an elite magazine and was now focusing on going solo with photography. Over the years, he had earned a name for himself in the entertainment industry and wanted to set up his own magazine company in D-City. He knew it wasn't going to be an easy win but he was willing to venture into it.

They didn't go to the house straight, instead he made Jenny to follow him around and he took pictures of some places and also marked a few stores he could potentially use as a start-up.

When they reached Jenny's apartment, they saw Chloe and Brenda also getting done from their car. the two ladies stopped and looked at Jenny as she walked closer to them with Kody. They had questions in their eyes as they gazed at Jenny.

''Chloe, Brenda. You remember them, right? My best friends'' Jenny said to Kody.

''Yes, I do''

''He is Kody'' Jenny said to Brenda and Chloe.

''Kody?'' Chloe almost screamed, 'wow, what a transformation. You look…'' Chloe lacked the words to describe him. It had been long since they saw him.

''Different?'' Kody asked and Chloe shook her head.

''I was going to go for handsome. Your dreadlocks suit you so well, boy'' she said and they laughed.

''Brenda, it's been a while'' Kody said and she nodded her head and smiled.

''It's good to have you back'' Brenda pointed at the door, ''let's go inside. When did you get back?''

''A few hours ago'' Kody replied and they went inside. Jenny sighed and felt relieved. Brenda didn't act cold towards Kody and it was a good thing.

A few years ago, Brenda and Kody's cousin were a couple and broke up because he cheated on her and took illegal nude pictures of her which he later used to blackmail her. It happened a long time ago but they have really never spoken about it because Brenda didn't want to talk about it. It was a scar that took a long time to heal.

While on the way, Jenny was worried that Kody's presence would remind Brenda of the past but she was now relieved that her best friend was kind towards Kody. The two of them were important to her, she couldn't choose between them.

Kristine was in the kitchen when they arrived and the whole place became lively again with the girls gathering around Kody to chat and ask him question about his career. He told them a lot about what he was up to and what he intended to achieve.

They were all people who were struggling to make it in life, so when they gathered, they gained inspiration from each other and advised each other.

''A magazine company? That is such a great step, Kody. I am so proud of you'' Chloe said when Kody mentioned his plans to set up his own company.

''So, does that mean you are going to be here from now onwards?'' Kristine asked him and he nodded his head.

''Yes, it just happened that way. I am here to settle down''

''I am so happy for you''

''It's getting late; I need to go back for my assistant to be rest assured''

''Let's meet when you have the time'' Brenda said to him.

''Aren't you going to stay back and eat before going?'' Jenny asked coming out from the kitchen.

''I will take a rain check on the food. But, I will call you and we will meet up tomorrow''

''Sure, let me see you off'' Jenny said and threw the handkerchief at Kristine before going out with Kody.

''Ladies, I will see you at another time'' Kody said and went out with Jenny.

''Whoa, Kody grew up so well'' Kristine commented.

''I know, right'' Chloe added.

''Those two, are going to end up together'' Brenda said and Kris and Chloe turned to look at her.

''How do you know that?'' Kristine asked.

''You know my gut feeling is always right. I can tell Kody likes our Jenny''

''Whoa, you are a psyche. How could you tell that just at a glance?''

''I guessed I've lived long enough?'' Brenda said and smirked.

''Right, have you called Robyn? How is he doing?'' Chloe asked.

''Why should I call him? Thanks to him I had my work cut out for me today. I had to complete something he was supposed to do''

''Whoa, you are really heartless. How could you not even call him once? You shouldn't have sent him to the hospital then'' Chloe shook her head.

''You, how did it go?'' Brenda changed the topic and turned to Kristine.

''It went well and Ronald and I are official'' Kristine announced.

''What?'' Chloe screamed and turned to Brenda, ''why do I feel that everybody's spring is coming but mine is missing? You got together with Ronald, Jenny's first love just returned and even heartless Brenda has a fling at the workplace''

''Kody isn't my first love'' Jenny said as she closed the door.

''I don't have a fling. Choose your words carefully'' Brenda also said furiously.

''Okay, wow. Who spit in your biscuits, girl?'' Chloe said to Brenda and went to her room.

''What's wrong, Brenda?'' Kristine asked worriedly.

''I don't know'' Brenda said and went into her room.

''What's wrong with her? She seems to be in a bad mood'' Jenny said to Kristine.

''I know, right? let's go''

''Tell me the details. How did you get together with Ronald? Did you two kiss already? Oh, let me live vicariously through you'' Jenny said and Kristine chuckled. She pulled Jenny to the dining table and they started chatting.

Brenda threw her bag on the bed and sat down. she had a frown on her face. She didn't know why she was suddenly in a foul mood after Chloe mentioned Robyn.

The whole day, even while at work, he had been on her mind for some reason and she wasn't liking it at all. The feeling was a little new to her. the last time she had felt like this was five years ago and after getting out of that hell, she had promised herself never to get into it again. but, now, she was beginning to feel something that was all too familiar to her but this time she wasn't going to fall a victim to it again. not after it took her so long to be herself again.

Brenda took a quick bath and went out of her room. She looked towards Chloe's room and heard the voices of the three of them. she went back into her room and picked a wine bottle, it was a wine she had bought some time ago. then she went and took four glasses and went to knock at the door before entering.

The three turned to the door and saw her holding the wine and the glasses.

''Anyone up for wine?'' she asked.

''No one even says no to wine'' Chloe said and stepped down from the bed. She went over and took the glasses from her and pulled her to the bed.

''Are you feeling down?'' Jenny asked Brenda and she nodded her head.

''Let's drink ourselves to sleep tonight. Chloe, we are sleeping here tonight'' Kristine said.

''I am up for it'' Chloe smiled and touched Brenda's hand and the latter turned to look at her and she gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Brenda quickly wiped her cheeks, 'aye, so cheesy'' she said and they laughed.

''I feel so happy and I'm wondering if this feeling will last'' Kristine said as she sipped the wine that Chloe had poured for her. 'Actually, I am scared. I don't know if this will be the kind of relationship where I will say, yes, this is the one, but, I like Ronald''

''Off course it is a good feeling and you should enjoy it. no matter what happens, one shouldn't stop pursuing happiness'' Chloe said.

''I have lost the courage to pursue happiness. I am afraid that one day my pictures will surface on the internet again like before if I ever attempt to be in a relationship again''

''Those damn photos. I still can't believe that man is still roaming freely after ruining your life? Why is the law so weak?'' Jenny cussed.

''Men who take advantage of women are the worse. I swear I just want to beat him to a pulp'' Kristine added.

They were clearly drunk as they continued to talk into the night, telling each other their true feelings, their fears until the finished the wine and collapsed on the bed, sleeping.
