Chapter 265: Simply annoying

Ronald finished dressing up and waited in the bedroom for Kristine to come out. He was all smiles as he felt that they had grown closer after visiting the zoo together. They did a lot of fun things together and were like a normal couple. He enjoyed every moment with her and also found out certain things about her.

He found out she loved to eat potato snacks. He also listened to her stories about her childhood. She told him about her father and the kind of things she loved to do, her passion for cooking and he felt he had understood her even more.

Ronald felt she was really the kind of person he wanted to always be with but he couldn't help but feel wary. He wondered if she would leave him after finding out that his family is a lot messier than hers. How his own father was inhuman, destroying every good thing he had?

He had only told her a little about himself but he felt she needed to know everything, because he couldn't keep her hidden forever. His family, his grandfather and father were bound to find out. While his grandfather might oppose his relationship with her, his father might even do worse. Like he did with his fiancée.

Kristine stood at the door wearing the off shoulder black and white chevron dress that stopped at her knees and looked at Ronald. She felt strange, good strange but she was also wary of him. He was like a man out of fairy tales. The way he took care of her at the zoo, held her hands when they went into the Halloween bridge. She felt safe with him. But she was scared, scared that after she gave her heart to him, he will change.

The two of them stared dreamily at each other until Kristine's phone buzzed bringing them back to their senses.

''My phone'' Kristine went closer to the bed and Ronald picked it for her.

''Here'' he gave it to her and she took it.

''It's Brenda. I will answer it quick'' she turned away and answered the call, ''hello Brenda. I thought you would be at asleep''

''No, I am not asleep'' Brenda's voice was unusually soft.

''Is everything alright? You sound a little strange'' Kristine knew her very well. her voice would only turn soft when she was confused about something or she was sick.

''I'm fine. Actually, is Ronald with you?''

''Ronald?'' Kristine mentioned the name and turned to look at him. He also looked up when he heard his name. ''Yes, he is. Why do you ask?''

''Actually, I'm in the hospital; his friend fell sick and I brought him to the hospital. They want a guardian to sign some papers''

''Oh, I understand. I will give the phone to him. You can explain to him'' Kristine said and stretched her hand towards Ronald, ''is Brenda''

''Okay'' Ronald took the phone and spoke, ''hi, Brenda. Is everything alright?''

Brenda quickly explained the situation to him and he sighed. ''Is he alright?''

''Yes, he hasn't woken up yet but the doctor said he is find''

''Thank you so much for being there with him, Brenda. As for the guardian consent, you can just sign them on my behalf. I will call the hospital tomorrow. Please, don't leave his side. Robyn hates hospitals, he might wake up and leave if you don't keep watch over him''

''Alright''

''Then, I will call you again tomorrow. Thank you, bye'' Ronald hung up and gave the phone back to Kristine. ''Robyn has acute stomach ulcer. I'm guessing he didn't eat the whole day and it took a toll on his body'' Ronald explained.

''Is he alright?''

''Your friend found him early. He is fine now''

''That's a relief. I wonder if Brenda will be fine?'' Kristine sounded worried.

''Why? Is Brenda also sick?''

''No, but she gets a little anxious when someone she knows is sick''

''I see''

''I wished I was by her side''

''We are leaving tomorrow. Don't worry too much. Your friend seems like a brave girl. She will be fine''

''We should go now. The party must have started'' Kristine placed the phone on the bed.

''You look beautiful, Kristine'' Ronald said and she smiled.

''You don't look bad yourself, let's go'' Kristine picked up the gift box she and Ronald had prepared and he took it from her.

Ronald took her hand and they went outside towards the poolside where the party was taking place.

It was a lavish party as a lot of her grandfather's business partners were in attendance. Everyone looked pretty in their own way.

Walking hand in hand towards their grandfather, Kristine smiled when Ronald whispered something into her ears. she shook her head and asked him, ''you are kidding, right?''

''No, I am not''

''No, that would be so embarrassing. If you dare to sing a song for grandpa, I am disowning you right away''

''That, I can't afford'' Ronald said and they chuckled. Initially, he had joked with her that he was going to sing a song for her grandfather.

''Grandpa, happy birthday'' Kristine said after getting near to the old man.

''Kristine, you look beautiful tonight'' the old man said.

'Thank you, grandpa but you look even handsome than before. here, Ronald and I brought this for you''

''What could be inside here?'' the old man took the box and opened it. When he saw the electric walking aid, he was moved and smiled, ''Kris, this is the best gift I have gotten. Everyone bought me things I didn't really need but you gave me something I could use on daily basis''

''As long as you like it'' Kristine said to him and he hugged her.

''Grandpa, I also have something to give to you'' Lucy said behind them and Ronald pulled Kristine to his side.

''Lucy, let's see what you have for me?'' the old man's eyes lit up after he opened the box and he looked up, ''you made a hand knitted scarf for me? This is good, Lucy. I love it''

''You are welcome grandpa. I also want to apologise for my behaviour the past few days. I know I hurt your feelings with my words and actions. Cousin…'' she turned to Kristine, ''I apologise for everything I did to you'' Lucy said, looking at Kristine.

''It's alright. as long as you know you are in the wrong'' Kristine replied but she felt that Lucy was acting strange. She turned and looked at Ronald who smiled at her.

''Now that you two have made up, I am happy. You are my precious granddaughters; how can I love one more than the other?'' the old man looked at them.

Lucy smiled, ''grandpa, I was short-sighted. I have reflected on myself and know what I did was not the best''

''Where is George?'' the old man asked and Lucy's face distorted. She clutched on to the bag tightly.

''Grandpa, he had something to do. I will come very soon, I will call him now'' she said and took out he phone and walked away.

''I still have to chat with my business partners. Enjoy yourselves''

''Yes, grandpa'' Kristine turned to face Ronald after her grandfather left, ''I feel that Lucy is acting strange''

''I felt it too''

''Ronald, about George. Are you not going to give him the case with your family?''

''I don't have control over such things since I don't work for the company. Are you worried about him?''

''En, I can tell he cares about Lucy a lot''

''Don't worry, I will speak to my brother and see if he can help him''

''Thank you''

''You are welcome. Let's go to the counter, I will make you a drink'' Ronald held Kristine's hand and they turned to go and saw Lucy.

''My fiancé and I don't need your help. Why don't you just mind your business?'' she said looking at Kristine and Ronald.

''Lucy, what is wrong with you again?'' Kristine asked.

''Nothing, I just hate that you are happy. Because of you and your boyfriend here, George feels ashamed to come back here. He even wants to break up with me''

''Lucy, here is not the place to talk about such things. What did George tell you? I can ask Ronald to speak to him''

''I don't need anyone's help. If you want to help, then why don't you get lost from here?''

''Don't you think you are going overboard with your words? Kristine is your cousin'' Ronald said to Lucy.

''Cousin? I don't want a cousin like her'' she declared.

''I knew you were never sincere with your words. Now, listen to me because I have had enough of you for today. Come with me'' Kristine held her hand and pulled her away as the people looked on. Ronald followed behind.

''Don't touch me with your filthy hands'' Lucy flunk Kristine's hand away.

''You are the reason why George doesn't want to come back so stop acting like a bitch and face up to your mistakes''

''What?'' Lucy felt that Kristine was an unfamiliar person in her eyes.
