He stepped back a little away from her and asked, ''why are you laughing?''

''You just looked cute when your ears turned red'' she answered and still continued to laugh at him. There were people climbing the mountain at that time, so they stopped to look at that.

''About waiting for you to get ready first or get used to me''

Looking at him, she felt her heartbeat quickening, her throat suddenly dried. She swallowed her own saliva but it became dry again as she stared at the moving lump in his throat. His Adam apple moved slightly.

''I… who asks a girl out in this manner?'' she blushed.

''Do you want me to woo you?''

''Off course, do you still think we are in high school? You have to work hard at it and make me feel your sincerity first. In any case, I won't be your girlfriend unless you show me how sincere you are'' she looked outside the window after saying her piece. She let out a sigh.

Jade walked out of the new apartment of the couple together with them as they chatted.

''Miss Saint, please decorate our house nicely for us'' the woman said to Jade.

''Don't worry, I will do an excellent job. It will be just the way you imagined it''

''Miss Saint has received a lot of good reviews online, honey, let's trust our home to her''

''I am thankful for the praise. You two must be busy with the wedding preparations. You can go ahead, I will go back inside and check a few things before I leave. I will call you when the house is ready''

''Thank you, Miss Saint'' the couple thanked her and went to their car. Jade waited for them to leave before she went back into the apartment.

She first checked the bedroom and made some small notes on her journal as she murmured to herself, ''a light creamy colour will be perfect since they are newly wedded, I can also add some touches to the wall by creating an illusion step-up book shelf on this side'' her phone buzzed and she placed the things in her hands on the floor before answering it.

''Hello, missed me already?'' she asked over the phone.

''Where are you?'' Alex asked.

''I am at the home of the couple. Why?''

''Location?''

''Are you paying me a surprise visit? I at District C street no. 46 down the left lane towards the children's park''

''I will be there in a few minutes'' he said and ended the call.

''What? Is he really coming here?'' she chuckled and shook her head before going back to her work.

A few minutes later, a car pulled over in front of the house and Alex got down. He locked his car after taking a bag from the backseat. He removed his phone and gave Jade a call.

''Which block are you? I am down here'' a while later, Jade came out of the building and walked to him.

''You really know how to surprise a person and throw them off guard'' she said standing before him. ''You are unpredictable and always act out of the norm''

''I get that often, you said you were going to be busy. I figured you might not have something to eat, so I bought you something to eat''

''I heard there is nothing like free lunch. So, throw it to me. To what do I owe this exceptional treatment?''

''Well, you are not wrong about that. let's go in first'' he said and walked behind her as she took him to the house.

A distance away, someone hid behind a parked vehicle taking photos of them from different angles.

''Whoa, this smells nice. Where did you buy this?'' Jade started opening the bag the moment they entered the apartment.

''Were you already hungry?''

''You don't know how much''

''Then, why didn't you get something to eat first?''

''I didn't want to leave the work I had behind to eat, thanks for bringing me this'' she sat down on the floor and placed the takeaway in front of her, ready to eat.

''Are you sitting on the floor to eat?''

''Do you see any furniture in this apartment? I'm used to it, don't worry. Sitting on the floor to eat is nothing to me. Do you want to join me?''

Alex sat in front of her and watched her eating.

''Are you not going to eat?''

''I ate before coming''

''I see, it feels weird eating alone like this. So, tell me, why did you suddenly decide to come visit me?''

''Nothing much, I was bored and didn't know where to go and what to do. Usually, I would spend my leave days with Viola but she is no longer in my life''

''Are you doing all this work alone?'' Alex stood up and entered one of the rooms, ''don't you have workers?''

''Not yet, it's a start-up business and I'm using my own resources, so it's a little hard. But, I intend to hire one or two people because when it comes down to the real work, I still need somebody's help'' Jade spoke loudly so Alex could hear her. he came back out of the room.

''Then, how about hiring me as a part-timer?'' he asked and she turned to look at him. She paused for a moment before asking.

''Do you need money?''

''What?'' he laughed at her, ''no, I just wanted to help you. You helped me, so I wanted to lend you a helping hand until you got workers''

''Oh, I got frightened for nothing''

''You were frightened? Why?''

''Well, you are soon going to make it big as a perfumer, if people heard that I hired a genius with a PHD at the age of 28, won't they think I went mad?''

''How did you know my age? I didn't tell you my age?''

''I asked my mom. I wanted to be sure the man who took my first kiss was of a suitable age or not''

''Then, can I steal something else while I'm on it?'' he squatted in front of her.

''What do you want to steal?'' she asked and squinted her eyes, the early morning sun shone through the unclosed window into the hall blinding her eyes. A food truck passing the neighbourhood made deafening announcement sounds making it hard for her to head what he was saying. She could only see his lips moving up and down.

''What did you say?'' she asked again and he stood up and smiled.

''If you didn't hear it the first time, then forget of it''

''No, wait. The sound of the food truck was too loud, I really didn't hear anything you said'' she stood up and followed him to the door.

''Jade, I came to give you food because I knew you wouldn't eat while you worked'' he started wearing his sneakers as he said to her

''How did you know that?'' she asked looking surprised.

''Same way you found out about my age'' he smirked. ''Call me when you are done, I will pick you up''.

''Huh?''

''You didn't bring your car, right?''

''Yes, I came with the couple''

''Call me when you are done. I will around the neighbourhood. I don't want to distract you while you work''

''Oh, I will call you when I'm done''

''Go back to do your work'' he turned and left the apartment. Jade stood at the same spot for a while confused.

''What was that? What did he say earlier?'' she walked back to the hall mumbling the questions.
