389  The Calamity

The fresh air of home washed over the dragon as he hovered high above the city between the mountains. The city was even larger than before, with its walls higher and thicker.

A third smaller circle of walls protruded from the outer walls like a boob from a woman's body. Houses, squares, and streets were packed with humans frozen in their movement and their eyes glued upon the dark form of the dragon.

Everything was submerged in the dragon's shadow and the darkness brought by the thick clouds, turning the day into night.

Looking at the city, he felt like it was slowly approaching the form he wanted, 'They have worked hard and upheld my direction. They split the city in my dragon city for these trustworthy and the part for mortals'

He couldn't so easily trust to let crowds of humans into his city after the past events, but at the same time, he wanted it to become the heart and the center of the entire kingdom.

'What would be a point of a capital that wouldn't be the heart of a country.'

The dragon turned his attention back to the center.

The still-young, blonde-haired elf with long and curved horns poking from between her golden locks waited at the tallest tower on the volcano. She knelt on the dark stone with her green dress fluttering in the draft.

"Master, you have finally returned.... but." both the nervous and joyous undertones reached the dragon through their connection.

Then something knocked on his soul, and he immediately recognized it and let it in. The thoughts and feelings of his minion flowed inside through the spell like a river.

Immediately flames of fury blazed again within the dragon and joined the already burning fire of grudge, vengeance, and old anger.

'What?! Someone captured the old capital of the kingdom and barricaded inside it. I just turned away for a few years and suddenly everyone forgets my power. At least that mad angel subsided temporarily for demons with their inquisition.'

It was such a human thing to do. They were always so prone to forget their old mistakes and lessons they had learned.

'However, this was too soon even for them. The players again... I thought I scared them enough but they still dared to do something like this.'

"Umm, there is one more thing. The human archmage you have hired finished his work." The elf bowed her head again.

'I would almost forget about it. That is exactly what I needed.' The dragon stared at the huge black shadow his body threw over the land, submerging the entire city in darkness.

'Damn, even with me compressing it with the past evolution my body grew again with age.'

He flapped his huge wings and sent waves through the grasslands as his eyes fell upon the horizon. The next moment his black and gold form shrouded in the smoke shot forwards. He had some lessons to teach, 'Kill a player? No that would be nothing more than just a slap on their wrist. I need to do something harsher.'

POV ???:

The heavy atmosphere lingered around the city. All the windows and doors were firmly shut, with no one daring to even peep.

"Have we made a mistake?" The eagle-winged player looked down at the columns of smoke rising from the encampment of the enemy army. He stood atop the castle's roof with his blade hanging from his belt.

'We are trapped here like sardines in a can...' His level was high, but even he didn't think he could defeat flocks of the new monsters, war draconids, especially the big noble variants.

They could only hold because the Vesuvian Kingdom refused to unleash the beasts upon the city.

He turned his gaze towards the horizon as he felt something.

The next moment the sky split in half, and darkness exploded out with the smoke spreading through the entire sky. The lightning struck, and a single figure appeared, levitating above the city.

Its three pairs of wings leisurely waved on its back, their skeletal structure of dark metal gleaming under the lights of elements dancing around them. The wind howled around the first one, fire blazed around the second one, and lightning crackled and arced around the bottom pair.

Its reptilian-feeling bipedal form was decked from its head to the tip of its long tail in the heavy black yet still naturally looking armor. The long crystal claws glowed on the tip of its powerful legs.

'Why do you feel so familiar?'

POV The Knight:

The knight stared at the place of his defeat and humiliation with visible fury. He gave up his last vestiges of what made him a human for more power. He finally evolved and changed.

His restructured soul spun and blazed in his consciousness, and his heart connected to it, making his body overflow with mana and vitality. His soul was no longer that of a human from the moment he accepted the dragon god's offer.

'Maybe I truly am the lucky transmigrator. At first, I gained the system. Then I have met the dragon and gained power and now I have met the even more powerful being and gained even more power.'

He felt like he had sold his body to the dragon and his soul to the dragon god. Shudders passed down his scale just thinking above the unimaginable powerful beings that were above him.

'Better to be on their side than be their enemy. So what if I will forever be bound by someone's command? I still have higher standing than most. On top of that, I have gained something that most humans would kill for, eternal youth.'

There was only one worry he felt.

'Is it really only this? How could such a large change have only this effect?'

He flapped his wings and descended right upon the castle in its center, his reverse-slitted reptilian eyes blazing with desire for vengeance.
