Chapter 176: Animagus Friends

Chris tried to move and started to glide slowly. She then tried to lift her head to get a better look at others.

It was a really unnatural scene in front of her, a big golden dog, a pure white peacock and a tiger were looking at each other. After a few moments, the peacock noticed Chris. Staring at the white peacock, Chris realized it was Luna. The peacock eyes still wore the surprizness of Luna. The golden dog ran around the place to get comfortable. The tiger gracefully walked towards the new emerged long mirror. Chris followed and looked at herself in the mirror. She was looking at a golden and brown imprinted, long and thick viper. Her eyes were vertical slits for pupils.

"Oh my God!" Chris shouted, looking at her reflection but only a hissing sound came from her mouth.

The tiger roared beside her. Chris decided to go back to her normal self. She closed her eyes and imagined her normal appearance very clearly and then she felt that uncomfortable feeling again. Her body didn't want to go back to normal but she concentrated, force her mind and body to go back. After which felt like more than fifteen minutes, Chris felt her hands and legs again.

Chris opened her eyes and saw her normal self was sitting down beside a grinning Ginny.

"That was amazing." She breathed. "Did you see me?"

"Hell yeah." Chris grinned, thinking back to the tiger beside her.

Chris turned and saw Colin changing back from the dog. The white peacock or Luna was still walking around the room moodily.

"You were a snake," Colin said to Chris. His face showed the same excitement and joy as Chris.

"And you were a dog," Ginny exclaimed. "A cute one."

Colin looked red suddenly.

"Yeah and well you were a tiger," he said. "A dangerous one."

Chris grinned.

The peacock was still roaming around. A scared thought shot through Chris unexpectedly.

"Luna, are you having complications to come back? Is there anything wrong?" Chris asked feeling panicked.

Ginny and Colin immediately looked alarmed.

"What? Luna are you ok?" Colin said.

The peacock looked at their worried faces then within a few seconds it transformed back to Luna's normal body.

"I was enjoying the appearance." She said casually. "You all were great. It was not that difficult, was it?"

Chris, Colin and Ginny looked at each other.

"Er... a little," Colin replied. "At least for me."

"For me too," Chris confessed.

Ginny shrugged. Chris knew Ginny was definitely good than her and Colin but Ginny wasn't trying to brag about it.

"Oh! I think it'll be easier with practice." Luna said then turned back to the peacock.

Ginny and Colin gasped.

"She makes it look too easy," Ginny said laughing. "Like she's doing it for years."

"It is Luna after all." Chris grinned then again, concentrated and turned back to the snake.

After practising another two times, they sat on the table to catch their breath.

"It's exhausting," Ginny said.

"Yes because it's our first time-shifting," Chris replied.

"Why do you think I'm a dog?" Colin asked suddenly. "Is this because I love dogs?"

"Maybe," Chris said. "Normally Animagus forms are based on something inside us. If you ask me, I think you're a dog because dogs are brave and super loyal and you are brave, loyal and a great friend."

"Agreed," Ginny said. "And I think white peacock shows a pure heart, which our Luna has."

Luna looked surprised but then smiled.

"And you're fierce and beautiful like a tiger." Luna and Colin said together.

They laughed.

"What about me?" Chris said looking thoughtful. "Do you think I'm a poisonous person?"

"Yes very." Colin laughed.

Chris rolled her eyes.

"I think it's because I always wanted to learn Parseltongue," she said, recalling the first time she heard Harry speaking Parseltongue.

"Or it can be something like, your unlimited love for a certain Sssslytherin," Ginny said. And Ginny, Colin and Luna started laughing.

"Very funny," Chris said sarcastically. Then suddenly she jumped out of her seat and checked her watch. "Crap."

"What?" Colin said.

"I promised Jason I'll meet him in the library before the library closes. It's already seven-thirty." Chris replied. "I gotta go. Here."

Chris pulled out her invisibility cloak and hand it to Ginny.

"Be careful," she said and ran out of the room.

Chris ran as fast as she could without attracting attention. She had reached almost at the library when she turned around a corner and ran straight into none other than Dolores Umbridge.

She looked a little startled but then her toad-like face broke into a smile.

"Miss Norton," Umbridge said, showing her small, pointed teeth. "Where are you running to? I thought students under fifth years are not allowed a nighttime stroll."

"You are quite right, Professor Umbridge," Chris replied with a smile. "But I'm afraid I'm not having a nighttime stroll. I'm just running to the library, which was allowed the last time I checked the rules."

"Surely it is, Miss Norton," said Umbridge in a voice of determined sweetness. "So what is an emergency which couldn't wait till morning?"

"Homework, Professor Umbridge," Chris said with same sweetness in her voice. "And I'm glad you understood that it's an emergency. I should take my leave."

"You are surely clever and sweet Miss Norton," Umbridge said forcing her voice to be sweeter. "But you should know I hate mischievous students and I'm not kind to those who lie to me."

"What a coincidence! I'm also not kind to those who lie to prove their point." Chris said widening her smile.

Umbridge raised her eyebrows at this but Chris kept her innocent smile.

"Now can I go, Professor Umbridge?" Chris asked.

"Yes, you can." Umbridge smiled reluctantly.

"Goodnight, Professor Umbridge." Chris smiled and walked towards the library.

Madam Pince gave Chris a pointed look as she stepped inside the library.

"It's still ten minutes before eight o'clock." Chris pleaded.

"Only ten minutes." Madam Pince said and walked away.

Chris hurried to look through the shelves and finally found Jason behind a potion book rack.

"I'm sorry," Chris whispered.

Jason raised an eyebrow to look at her.

"And I guess you're not going to tell me why you are late?" He asked closing the book, he was reading.

"Er... I will but not now. I mean not here. Please?" Chris made an innocent face.

Jason laughed.

"It's eight o'clock. Now out." Madam Pince barked somewhere behind a few shelves.

"I'll see you tomorrow at potions, okay?" Jason said walking out of the library.

"Ok. But I'm really sorry." Chris said walking out with him.

"Alright, but you'll have to pay for that," Jason said as they stopped at an empty corridor. "Saturday evening I'll take you somewhere and you've to come, deal?"

"Deal." Chris kissed Jason. "Goodnight."

"Night." He smirked.

Jason took the steps to the Dungeon and Chris started climbing towards the Gryffindor tower.
