CH 6.01

I had my usual breakfast with Futaba after she came back from helping out at the shrine.

However, Futaba, who is usually so fussy, is silent the whole time.

The news on the TV was showing a news report of a politician who answered “I don’t remember”.

This guy was one of the guys that Yui and I rescued from a dark Valkyrie.

He is a politician.

「Oniichan, are you sure you’re going to the organization’s headquarters….?」

Futaba asked me, looking up at me as she dipped her sunny side up egg over the browned bacon.

「As your guardian, I have to greet them.」

「That’s not a good idea……how about school?」

「I’m taking the day off. Sorry Futaba, you have to take a day off too.」

「Eh….but my perfect attendance award will…」

「The sooner we get there, the better.」

「Why are you in such a hurry?」

「I would turn crazy trying to stay calm knowing that my little sister is fighting monsters like those.」

「But I think you’re too calm to accept something that could turn someone’s common sense upside down……」

My little sister can’t be this perceptive.

「Why?」

「Yeah……honestly speaking, I don’t want to get involved in variants but it’s too late now. Since it has come to this, I thought I’d better get a good explanation….」

「Really?」

「Of course」

Futaba nodded reluctantly, looking somewhat unconvinced.

「This is the headquarters?」

Futaba led me in front of a big office building in Marunoichi.

A conscious looking office lady was walking while her heels clacked.

She’s a career woman.

I guess this term isn’t used yet.

I’m wearing jeans and a T-shirt while Futaba was wearing a mini one-piece dress.

We stand out a lot.

「Yeah, it is in the basement.」

At first glance, the building I was led to looked like an ordinary office building.

We passed through the elevator near the entrance and took a small elevator in an unpopular place around a corner.

Futaba pushed some buttons in turn which made the elevator go up to the 50th floor.

Then, the elevator suddenly started descending.

Although the buttons only go down to the 1st underground level, the current location displayed was already lower than the 10th underground level.

Eventually, the elevator stopped at the 30th underground level.

When the elevator doors opened, we were greeted by a space that could easily fit five or six school gymnasiums and a big torii gate standing there.

There is a quiet fountain in the center and five corridors are connected to the hall, which is decorated in a manner that makes it look like a shrine.

As we passed through the torii, I felt a powerful magic power.

It’s a quite powerful barrier.

I had felt one while we were going down the elevator but it must have been a barrier to hide this barrier.

However, this barrier, more than protecting from outside threats, seems to be made so as not to leak magic power inside to the outside……

「Futaba-sama, who did you bring?」

A young woman in a shrine maiden outfit, who looks like a receptionist, approaches us quietly.

The magic power emitted by this woman suggests that she’s not only a receptionist but also a gatekeeper.

She seems to have the ability to twist invaders.

「This is my oniichan desu」

「You sound like someone talking from a helmet.」

「What are you talking about?」

「No, nothing.」

「Futaba-sama’s oniisama….? Is he the singularity……?」

The woman in shrine maiden outfit stares at me as if she’s assessing me.

「Can I have a word with the chief?」

「Futaba, you are being addressed as “sama”.」

「Oniichan, can you please stop talking for a minute!?」

「Sorry about that, please continue.」

I guess I messed up a little too much.

I was just trying to make you relax.

「Let me check. Please wait.」

The woman in shrine maiden outfit then pulled out a telephone receiver from a hidden door at the torii.

They used phones in a place like this?
